Carl Newton Ganter, Jr. was born to Gladys Slay and carl N. "Euddie" Gunter october 16, 1938, in Alexandria, Louisiana. He was the first-born grandchild of Mary Hooper and John Gunter andLouella Sullivan and Charles"Buck" Slay. He was a graduateof Buckeye High School where he was activein sportsandvotedthe MostAthletic andClassPresident inl957 . He attended LSU in Baton RougeandLouisianaCollege in Pineville. He wasmarried to his high schoolsweetheart, Jessie paulk L. far 42 years. They were blessedwith six children, Carl III, Rhonda,Melody, Penny,Fancy and Ryan. For a while he worked as a roustabout offshore. Later he owned and operatedthe Pineville Motor Parts.In 1971he was elected to the House of Representatives from district 27. He remainedRepresentative 20 years.He was proud to have the for honor of representing people that meant so much to him. the Since being out of politics he has enjoyed his rhirteen grandchildren,Ashley, Jessica,Carl IV, Mic, Mathew, Christopher,Lindsey, Jessie,Justin, Jordan,Corey, Hope and Emily. He alsohastwo brothers,JohnOtis GunterandTravis Gunter and one sister,Gladys Gunter Norris. He was fortunate to have his close friend, Robert S. Richardson,becomelike a second father to him later in his life when he married his mother. Having his family and friends with him during his illness has rneantso much. The Thursdaynight prayer meetingswith Glenda Paulk, the Saturday night singings with family and friends,the visits andprayersjust lifted his spirits andbrightened his days.The laughterandtearsof paststoriesshared will always be special. God blesseachof you for being a specialpart of our family.
