First English Test TEXT :

2011/2012 BTS T2 Mr. Wade

A beautiful county of over 2,000 square miles, Devon has something to offer for everyone. Two glorious coastlines, a countryside which includes two National Parks, historic cities, towns and villages and an excellent choice of accommodation. Wherever you decide to stay, you will find plenty of places to visit and things to do. This guide is designed to help you, the visitor, to get the best from your holiday in Devon. In each section of the guide - north, south, east and west Devon-you will find a description of the towns, together with their local amenities and sporting facilities, and details of tourist attractions in the area. For the holidaymaker with a car, there are four leisure drives offering spectacular views of coast and countryside, from the breathtaking coast and fascinating market towns, of north Devon to the more gentle scenery of the estuaries of south Devon with historic towns like Tomes and Dartmouth. The beautiful Exe valley and the route from Cullompton to Honiton will take you through the heart of the Devon countryside and on to the popular coastal area of east Devon, whilst the west Devon leisure drive, which includes the ancient stannary town of Tavistock, charming Dartmoor villages, Princetown, home of the famous `prison of the moor' and the modern city of Plymouth, is a must for the connoisseur of superb countryside and architectural splendour. For those .who love the open-air life and prefer to take things at a more leisurely pace, the useful descriptions of local walks, which have been included, will prove an added bonus. An ideal way to discover the real Devon, there are guided walks on Dartmoor and Exmoor, forest and nature trails and, of course, the extensive Devon sections of the 512 mile South-West Peninsula Coast Path. However you choose to spend your time in Devon, it is hoped that you will find this booklet useful.
