GENRE OF THE TEXT

There are many kinds of english text. Those are recount, report, discussion, Explanation, Exposition, new item anecdote, narrative, procedure, description, and review. Today ,lets learn on recount, report, narrative, procedure and description. 1. Recount Text Social Function : to retell events for the purpose of informing or entertaining. Generic Stucture: a. Orientation: provides the setting and introduces the participants b. Events : tell what happened, in what sequences c. Reorientation: optional closure of events Significant lexiogrammatical features: Focus on specific participants, use material processes, circumstances on time and place, use past tense, focus on temporal sequence 2. Report Text Social Function : to describe the way things are with reference to a range of natural, manmade, and social phenomenoa in our environment Generic Stucture: a. General classification: tells what phenomena under the discussion b. Description: tells what the phenomenon under the discussion is like in terms of parts, qualities, habits or behaviour. Significant Lexiogrammatical Features: focus on generic participants, use relational processes to state what is and that which it is. use simple present tense

3. Narrative Text Social Function :to amuse, entertainn Generic Stucture: a. Orientation: sets the scene and intruuduces the participants b. Evaluations: a stepping back to evaluate the plight. c. Complication: a crisis arises d. Resolution : the crisis is resolved e. reorientation: optional Significant lexiogrammatical features: focus n specific participants, use material processes, behavioral processes, and verbal processes. USe temporal conjuctions, and temporal circumstances, use past tense 4. Procedure Text Social Function : to describe how something is accomplished through a sequences of actions or steps. Generic Stucture: a. Goal

b. Material c. Steps 1-n Significant lexicogrammatical features: Use simple present tense, often imperative. use mainly material processes 5. Descriptive Text Social Function : to describe a particular person, places, or things Generic Stucture: a. Identification: identifies the phenomenon to be described b. Description: describes parts, qualities, characteristics Significant lexicogrammatical features: Focus on specific participants, use simple present tense

so that we can learn about many things. In the world of library, wecan entertain ourselves, teach ourselves, and be inspired by the ideas that we

mightn e v e r h a v e dreamed of otherwise. (Ini adalah 'Description')A library has many sections. Commonly, a library

has a reading room, a catalogue section, a newspaper and magazine section, books section, and a librarian deskwhich deals

with book circulation. The books are classified based on the subjects,such as fiction, science, psychology, etc. They are arranged

on the bookshelves. (Iniadalah 'Description'). 2) Whales are sea-living mammals. They therefore breathe airbut cannot survive on land.

Some species are very large indeed and blue whale,which can exceed 30 cm in length, is the largest animal to have lived on

earthSuperficially, the whale looks rather like a fish, but there are important differences inits external structure: its tail consists of a pair of broad, flat,

(fiksi/non fiksi/dongeng/cerita rakyat, dll)dan dalam alur cerita /plotnya selalu disertai dengan puncak masalah/ klimaks cerita(complication

) kemudian diikuti dengan penyelesaian masalah (Resolution)Generic Structures:Orientatio n - Complication Evaluation (optional)

ResolutionOrientatio n: it is about WHO, WHEN, and WHERE the story happened.Evaluation : it is optional, it is usually used to make

the story more interesting.Complica tion: it is about the conflict or the big problem of the story. A story canhave more than one

complication.Resolut ion: it is the solution of the problem. It can be a happy or sad ending.Example:The story of Cinderella, Snow White, Snow

MaidenThis is the example of Snow Maiden Once upon a time there lived a couple ina village. They had got married for a long time, but so far they

did not have a babyyet. Every single minute they prayed to God, begged for a baby, but it never cametrueOne day, they went to snow

mountain. They made a girl from snow and they dressedher beautifully. When it got dark, they decided to go home and left the snow

girlalone. The following morning, someone knocked the door. "Any body home?", shesaid. The old women inside opened the door and asked,

"Who are you?" The girl said"I'm Snow Maiden, your daughter". The old woman was surprised and happy. "Ohreally? Thanks God! Come

in, please!" Since that meeting, they lived happily. SnowMaiden was beautiful, kind, diligent and helpful. Her parents and all of her friendsloved

her very much.One day, Snow Maiden played with her friends. They played fire. At first, SnowMaiden just looked at their play. Suddenly, her friends

asked her to jump on the fire.Of course she refused it because one thing that made her afraid was the fire. It'sbecause Snow Maiden was made

of snow, so she should avoid the fire. But herfriends kept on forcing her to jump on. Finally, she could not do anything then shedid it. She

jumped on the fire and she melted. Her friends was so sorry about this,they cried and cried hoping Snow Maiden could live again, but it was useless.

SnowMaiden would not be back anymore Her mother tried to entertain Snow Maiden'sfriends and asked them to make a new Snow Maiden.

They went to a snow mountainand started making it. They expected to have the new Snow Maiden. Days passedbut their dreams never came

brown. Brownie has black round eyes and big ears. Its got thick fur especially around its tail. This dog doesnt like bones ormeat. Everyday, it eats rice

and fried fish.2) If you go to Jakarta, you can visit the Imax Theatre where you can see manyshows. (Ini adalah Identification) It is

located in TMII complex, East Jakarta. Manypeople call it Keong Mas because the building has a shape like a snail. It

looksamazing. The shape makes this place unique. It also has a large parking area.Besides, you can find a beautiful

garden at the front of this building.
