Brazil and Argentina

In the near term, dry conditions will improve in S Brazil (rains on the way) and widen in Argentina. The longer range outlook is continuing improvement in S Brazil but back to drying for C Argentina. (based on latest GFS model).

Brazils Seasonal Precipitation (Sept 1-Dec 20) has been significantly drier than normal (less than 50%) in two key growing areasS Mato Grosso/N Mato Grosso do Sul/S Goais and C Rio Grande do Sul. (These areas exclude the far NE of Brazil)

Remote sensing shows recent crop conditions compared to the 7-year averages (grey areas = no data). Note the deterioration in S Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul and Parana, as well as better than average in centerwest, southeast, parts of South and most of N Brazil.

The last days of the year (thru Jan 1) - more drying in C Argentina, S Paraguay, Uruguay and S Rio Grande do Sul. 0.50-2 inch rains in this period will reach S and NW Argentina, N and E Paraguay, center-west Brazil, Parana and Sao Paulo and SE Brazil.

The two week outlookrains seem to return to C Argentina, even heavier than earlier model runs have indicated. 10-14 days from now, the next significant rains return to C Argentina but too late to limit additional significant stress on flowering corn, but potentially not too late for 2nd crop beans. Rains meanwhile continue over parts of S Brazil?
