martial law. 2) Citizens who refuse to obey the rules and possibly force law enforcement to shoot their own citizens. POSITIVE 1)low crime rate,2) a brief boost in the economy due to the micro-business projects by the Marcos administration and overhauling the policies in the agricultural sector, 3)preventing a communist take-over of the government in light of the rising popularity of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and its rebel forces, The New Peoples Army (NPA). Why is Philippine martial law different from other countries' martial law? Because the martial law in the Philippines is not that strict unlike other countries which have more stricter laws and policies. Initial things that took place before the martial law? Random bombings, officially attributed to communists but probably set by government agents provocateurs, occurred in Manila and other large cities. Most of these only destroyed property, but grenade explosions in the Plaza Miranda in Manila during an opposition Liberal Party rally on August 21, 1971, killed 9 people and wounded 100 (8 of the wounded were Liberal Party candidates for the Senate).
