Swiss Government scholarships for Indian students Academic year 2012-2013

This document resumes the guidelines for applying to the Swiss scholarship programme for Indian students for the academic year 2012-2013. For more detailed information on the scholarship, please refer to the application guidelines.

Objectives

To do postgraduate studies in one of the 10 Swiss public Universities or one of the two Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology (EPFL & ETHZ)* The scholarship programme applies to the following postgraduate studies: Master programs Masters of Advanced Studies PhD Post Doc Research stay (opportunity for PhD students from India to conduct research in Switzerland) * The 10 Swiss public Universities and the two Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology are hereafter referred to as Swiss Universities

Target Group

High qualified postgraduates from any discipline (fine arts excluded)

Scholarship value

Stipend of CHF 1920 per month for a duration of 1 year Extension possible up to 12 months, depending on the type of study and on the students performance** Compulsory Health Care Insurance (except for dental care) Allowance (lump sum) for the return ticket at the end of the scholarship

** For more information, see section 1.3 in the application guidelines Requirements & conditions The candidate must be an Indian national Applicants must hold the appropriate university degree (Bachelor, Master, or PhD degree, depending on the level of studies to be undertaken in Switzerland) The applicant must be born on or after the 1 of January 1977 While applying to the Swiss scholarship for a Master programme, students must also simultaneously apply for admission at the chosen programme via the respective University portal

Applications are automatically rejected and thus not considered if one of the following occurs: The candidate applies to two or more Swiss Universities, or sends several different applications (applicants must apply once and only to carry out studies or research in one chosen Swiss University) The applicant is already attending the first year of a Master Program in a Swiss University, an seek funding for her/his second year of Master Application documents The application is sent after the application deadline The application is incomplete

Basic documents required for all types of applications: 3 typed copies*** of the official application forms, each signed, and each with a passport size photograph attached to it 3 copies of certificates from previously attended universities/colleges and diplomas with grades 1 set of letters of recommendation from 2 professors 3 copies of curriculum vitae 3 copies of health certificate (using official template) 3 copies of passport (main page with personal data)

*** Handwritten application forms will not be considered Besides the basic documents, these documents are additionally required from applicants to Master programs: 3 copies of a 2 page personal statement emphasizing the reasons to study in Switzerland, the importance of the choice for your future career as well as your professional projects at the end of your scholarship If proof of language proficiency is required****, then 3 copies of recognized language certificates **** For more information, see section 2.1 in the application guidelines Besides the basic documents, these documents are additionally required from applicants to PhD, Post Doc, or Research stay: 3 copies of a complete research proposal (approx. 5 pages) 3 copies of a confirmation letter or email from a Professor at the intended Swiss University that he/she will supervise the research Application procedure The official application form and health certificate template will be available online from October 24 on the website of the Swiss Embassy in New Delhi Deadline for application is December 9, 2011
