Introduction:This is a very simple circuit that uses 555 timer IC set at 1 Khz,which produces Square, sine and Triangular wave

shapes outputs.A jumper wire is used to select the desired output waveform .This output could be attached to a suitable probe if so desired, with an earthing connection via a length of wire and a crocodile clip. Its construction is very straight forward, and took less time. This project can easily be mounted into a small box with a probe attached the little jumper that is used to select the output waveform could be replaced by a small rotary switch or slide switch. This would depend on your choice if you wanted all the available output waveforms. Similarly the positive battery lead could be routed via a small push to make switch , or a small single pole single throw type switch. The battery should last for long time before its needs replacing. I have checked out the wave forms on an oscilloscope, especially Sine wave , for distortion, purity etc, and found the wave form to be exceptionally good at 1khz as claimed . At least it is an excellent kit, that not only is easy to make, but is a very practical one too.

List of components used in the Circuit:

Resistors Capacitors Transistors Battery Jumper wires Battery Holder 555 Timer IC Resistors: Resistors are basically used for the protection of circuit to avoid the irregular variations in the voltage and we can get output too through the resistors. Capacitors: Because this circuit generates the different waveforms thats why the capacitors are very necessary in this circuit, because we need filtration of the waveforms from other impurities. The capacitors are used in this circuit for filtring action. Transistors: Two transistors are used in this circuit that both are BC547B they amplify the signal to improve the strength of the waveforms, and increase their magnitude. Battery: A battery of 9V is used in the circuit, at the input of the circuit.

Battery Holder: If we connect a battery to the input of circuit we obviously need a battery holder to hold it and to supply the voltage of battery to circuit. Jumper Wires: Jumper wires are used to connect input and output of circuit with other equipments. IC 555 Timer: The 555 timer IC is an integrated circuit (chip) used in a variety of timer, pulse generation and oscillator applications. The IC design was proposed in 1970 by Hans R. Camenzind and Jim Ball. After prototyping, the design was ported to the Monochip analogue array, incorporating detailed design by Wayne Foletta and others from Qualidyne Semiconductors. Signetics (later acquired by Philips) took over the design and production, and released the first 555s in 1971. Internal Structure of 555 timer IC:

Name. GND TRIG OUT RESET CTRL THR DIS V+, VCC

Purpose Ground, low level (0 V) OUT rises, and interval starts, when this input falls below 1/3 VCC. This output is driven to +VCC or GND. A timing interval may be interrupted by driving this input to GND. Control" access to the internal voltage divider (by default, 2/3 VCC). The interval ends when the voltage at THR is greater than at CTRL. Open collector output; may discharge a capacitor between intervals. Positive supply voltage is usually between 3 and 15 V.
