SEVEN PRINCIPLES FOR FINDING PASSION AND PURPOSE

Have you ever sat down and thought, What is my life's purpose? What is my passion? Where do I go from here? Passion is very personal. It's also very powerful. When you begin doing what you love, your life will be pulled in directions you can't even begin to manage. It's completely life changing. You have a passion. Your friends have passions. The stranger on the street has passions. We all have that feeling; that sense that something matters to us and resonates with us in a unique way. We all have passions. Finding them, however, is a different story. That can be a challenge. It's a challenge worth facing. If you don't do what you live you will never break through to the kind of outrageous success you deserve. Instead of achievements, you'll be left to deal with regrets. Finding your passion and purpose isn't just a good idea, it's an essential part of learning to be yourself and of experiencing the life you were meant to have. We're going to work through the process of discovery together, discovering what matters the most to youwhat really makes you tick. We'll discuss ways to unlock your forgotten dreams and transform your life. It starts by asking the right questions. Before we start asking them, let's talk about how you should answer them. You need to be honest. Lies won't get you closer to the truth about who you are. You need to be instinctive. When something occurs to you, integrate it into your answer. Don't self-censor. You should think big. Don't try to moderate your potential or to limit your creativity as you answer these questions. When we wrestle with big questions and entertain big ideas, it actually causes the structure of the neurons in our brain to change, particularly in the frontal lobes. Our brains communicate differently and more powerfully than ever. Finally, right the answers down. Get a pen and write. It makes a difference.

ONE: WHAT DO YOU LOVE?

You must uncover what you love doing. What really excites you? What could trip your trigger day after day? When successful people are asked for a single tip they'd give to others, they almost invariably respond by saying, do what you love. This isn't just a matter of hedonistically pursuing pleasure. It's about aligning yourself with what really matters to you. That improves the quality of what you do and the quality of your life at the same time. It's empowering. Anwwer these questions: o If you could wake up every day doing what I love, what would that be? o When did you feel the most alive, accomplished and satisfied in your life? o What were you doing? o What about that time gave you those feelings? ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________

TWO: WHO ARE YOU?

If you don't know yourself, it's hard to isolate your passion and purpose. This step centers up finding out who you are so that you can align your actions with your core values and character. Answer these questions: o What are your core values and principles in life? What do you believe in? o How would you describe yourself to others? o Which of your traits or characteristics do you like the most? o How would you like others to describe you and your character? ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________

THREE: WHAT ARE YOUR STRENGTHS?

If you want to find your purpose, you need to determine what you do well. Invariably, our purpose is directly tied to activities that come easy to us or for which we've demonstrated particular skill. One luxuriates and achieves when working toward his or her purpose, it is never a struggle! Answer these questions: o What do I do well? o What are my strengths? o In what ways am I gifted? o What unique talent sets me apart from others? o What do I do that never tires me? o What kind of advice or assistance do people ask from me? o What compliments do I most often receive? ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________

FOUR: BUILDING TRUST IN YOURSELF

Telling yourself that you're going to succeed is great, but it won't do the job if you're creating barriers to achievement. Often, we really are our own worst enemies. That self-sabotage (which is often subconscious) stems from a lack of trust in ourselves. Let's begin to build the kind of trust that will pave the way for achievement. Ask yourself these questions: o What prevents you from trusting yourself? o What doubts do you have about yourself? o Who told you that you couldn't live your dreams? ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________

FIVE: TAKING RISKS

Living a passionate, purposeful life requires a willingness to take risks. You can't let fear rule your life. Taking chances is essential and fear is a stumbling block to remove. You need to develop the habit of taking risks. That doesn't mean you should buy a barrel and book a trip to Niagara Falls tonight. It does mean occasionally stepping out of your comfort zone and trying new things without already knowing how they'll end up. Ask yourself these questions: o What risk will you take today in an effort to live your passion and to find your purpose? o What is holding you back from taking the leap toward your passion? ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________

SIX: LEARNING AND GROWTH

You're not stuck. You can change and grow. People evolve and mature in positive ways, particularly when they're living purposeful lives based on their passions. Much of that growth stems from learning. If you're going to reach your potential, you'll need to make connections that encourage your personal growth and skill development. You'll find yourself reading and studying in your area of passion. It's an empowering part of becoming the best you you can be! Ask yourself these questions: o What have you done today to broaden your knowledge with respect to your passion and purpose? o What books have you read on these topics? o To whom have you spoken about these topics? o What groups have you joined? ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________

SEVEN: PERSEVERANCE
You may occasionally find yourself fascinated and entranced by a subject, only to find that those feelings are short-lived and that you're not truly passionate about it. That's part of being a human being and is entirely normal. If that should happen to you, simply start over and repeat the process of discovering your passion. Don't give up. Keep moving forward. You will find your passion and it will give your life a greater purpose. Ask yourself these questions: o What have you quit recently and why? o What new thing will you try today? ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________
