Fiji Australia Trade Agreement Extension Provides Greater Potential for Fijis Garment Industry
The Fijian government in a statement says that the extension of a trade agreement on Fijis textile, clothing and footwear industry with Australia will greatly benefit Fijis garment industry. In welcoming the extension to the South Pacific Regional Trade and Economic Cooperation Agreement (SPARTECA), Fijian Foreign Affairs Minister Ratu Inoke Kubuabola highlighted the various contributions made under the agreement in particular to the Textile, Clothing and Footwear Provisions Scheme (the SPARTECA (TCF Provisions). Under the agreement, certain textiles, clothing and footwear goods that are manufactured in Forum Island Countries (FICs) including Fiji are exported to Australian and New Zealand markets on a duty free basis. Ratu Inoke said the industry was of vital importance in as far as alleviating poverty and engendering social equality in Fiji was concerned. Garment and footwear manufacture is a major contributor to the economy of Fiji generating tens of millions of dollars in export revenues each year: 90 per cent of employees in the industry are women and in most cases the sole bread-winner. The industry employs 2500 workers but indirectly impacts nearly 16000 people. Through the scheme, there is potential to turn the garment industry around and increase its contribution towards Fijis GDP and social development, Ratu Inoke said. Earlier this month the Australian High Commission in Suva informed Fijis Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation that the Australian Government would now extend the trade agreement to 31 December 2014. Ratu Inoke Kubuabola expressed Fijis appreciation for the market access provided under the scheme, which was to a large extent sustaining Fijis garment industry. The South Pacific Regional Trade and Economic Co-operation Agreement (SPARTECA) is a nonreciprocal trade agreement under which the two developed nations of the South Pacific Forum, Australia and New Zealand offer duty free and unrestricted or concessional access for virtually all products originating from the developing island member countries of the Forum, hereinafter called the Forum Island Countries (FICs). SPARTECA was signed by most Forum members at the Forum's Eleventh Meeting in Kiribati on 14th July, 1980. It came into effect for most FICs from 1 January, 1981.
The Tanoa Waterfront Hotel in Lautoka held its fourth Employee of the Quarter and Employee of the Year Awards Night. This was a fitting occasion to mark the end of another successful year for the Sugar Citys prime corporate lodging. The hotels 55 staff members gathered for an evening of rousing entertainment and indoor competitions before exchanging gifts and receiving performance awards. The award for Supervisor of the Year went to Rosalini Radrokai of the Food and Beverage Department. Meanwhile, Shalen Murthi of the Kitchen Department was named Employee of the Year. Hotel manager Narend Kumar said the lively and energetic vibe of the staff was evident in their notable achievements this year; winning the Tanoa Chairmans Gold Award in November and receiving full star ratings on online destination reviewer Trip Advisor. Our major aim is to retain our existing guests and attract new ones. At the moment, 90 per cent of our guests are returnees and our major market lies in corporate clientele and there are many incoming investors to the country, he said. Mr Kumar said 2011 had not been as positive in terms of business results compared to 2010 but they all did their best as a team.
Our challenge is to build our team to the next level, he said. However, he also urged staff to reduce their sick leave in an effort to improve their work and operations. I urge you all to look after yourselves so that you can come to work every day. Some staff have had excessive sick leave this year and it has affected operations, he said. Mr Kumar reminded all staff that they would be monitored as far as sick leave was concerned.
Winning the Exporter to USA award at the 2011 TFL Prime Ministers Exporter of the Year Award, Food Processors (Fiji) Limited is now looking at ways to maintain its success. Chief executive Brij Lal said despite the various challenges faced by the company in 2011, they had come out stronger and are now, more than ever, focused on growth. The year has been quite a challenging one especially in terms of export markets and there were certain events that were beyond our control. One good example being the floods in Queensland, Australia that affected our business significantly as most of our buyers were located there. We did not get any orders for about six to eight months so we really had to strategize and look for other markets, he said. Mr Lal said, Next year going forward would be another challenging year; we need to maintain our market share and
keep on growing. With USA being the companys biggest market at the moment, Mr Lal said they are also looking at other markets like the South Pacific Island countries for more opportunities. We are working with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Investment Fiji in getting countries like Papua New Guinea and some of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) countries to give us opportunities there. Of course, Australia and New Zealand are also there and I must say that there is still a lot of space for growth in that area, he said. Mr Lal said that promoting local products was also high on the priority list as well. Morris Hedstrom is one of the few companies that really is promoting the buy Fiji made products campaign and we would like to see other supermarkets adopt the same model as well, he said.

Mr Southwick said the lobsters brought in Maine were caught in the cold waters of Halifax, Nova Scotia. "We have just brought in our first shipment of 500 kilos, being used mainly at our Royal Davui hotel in Beqa Lagoon but we are also selling them for $70 per kilo," said Mr Southwick He said the imported Maine lobster also had advantages over local varieties because of the methods used to catch them. "These lobsters are caught alive, electronically stunned and blast frozen to ensure their quality," said Mr Southwick. "They also have 50 per cent more meat than local lobsters, almost as much meat in the claws as in the body so meat recovery is much higher than local lobsters," he said. He said while the price of the lobster was high, it was significantly cheaper than the price of imported Australian and New Zealand lobsters which retailed for around $200 per kilo. "This lobster should not compete with local lobster because the local ones retail for about $17 a kilo so you have the option of going much cheaper," said Mr Southwick.

"If a consumer couldn't pay off a $1000 debt, what makes you think they can afford another extra $100 fine?" she explained. Mrs Kumar said the campaign urged all consumers to be extra cautious when signing hire purchase or lending agreements. "We have to read the fine print, we have to be responsible and ask for a pre-disclosure every time," the council head said. Mrs Kumar said because of the lack of legal framework on the responsibilities of financial institutions to consumers, the onus lay on consumers to shop around for the best deals. "Consumers cannot trust anyone, it's the consumers' responsibilities," she said.

The Fijian Government has done away with the hand-out mentality and has urged people to be actively involved in uplifting their livelihoods. You could also save much money if you cut out grog drinking and focus on your familys welfare, was the no nonsense message by the Minister of Local Government, Urban Development, Housing and Environment Colonel Samuela Saumatua. This week 64 families have been given the opportunity to become homeowners in Badrau settlement in Ba in the Western Division in Fiji. Now its up to you to ensure that you gradually improve your situation, Col Saumatua said. He challenged residents, who were previously squatting on State land but will now own lease to their plots for as low as $3000-$7000, to concentrate on improving their homes and even using their land as collaterals to get loan from banks. This is the fifth of such development in recent months where the Fijian Government has allowed squatters to legitimately occupy State owned land.
Col Saumatua said the Badrau squatter upgrading project not only satisfied one of the basic human rights, that is, the right to shelter but was also in accordance with the Pillars 6 and 8 of the Peoples Charter for Change, Peace, and Progress. This Government is encouraging the population to work within your own means to improve their family condition, he said. We cannot beat poverty if we sit back and accept it. Col Saumatua urged residents to work hard and make sacrifices to create a secure environment for their children. The Government has not only provided security of tenure but its upgrade project has seen plots having access to amenities such as sewerage, water and electricity reticulation, fire hydrants and drainage work. The sealed roads and drains have been transferred to the State and vested as Ba Town Council assets while water and sewerage infrastructure are transferred to the Water Authority of Fijis assets, fire hydrants as National Fire Authoritys and electricity as Fiji Electricity Authoritys assets. These bodies will ensure the maintenance of the amenities.

We Have Much To Be Thankful For: President
We have much to be thankful for and much to look forward to in 2012, says Fiji's President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau. Ratu Epeli said the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has made great strides in implementing the necessary reforms to modernize Fiji and provide sustained livelihood to all Fijians. "It is under thus sound and consistent leadership that we celebrate with our families and friends this Christmas and New Year," he said. "We continue to reinforce the health of our nation- socially, economically and within an expanding global framework." "We reach out to our neighbours at this time of the year with attention to the needs and welfare of our fellow citizens to give and share of that which we have." TWENTY two staff was terminated from the Suva City council for various reasons following two audits and twenty nine special reviews in 2011. The audits were the Suva Market and the Private Taxi Audit. This was revealed in a report of SCC achievements in 2011. The report stated a number of new developments had taken place, thanks to the audits. "A major achievement this year was the large scale investigations in conjunction with the audit department into allegations concerning operations of the Suva Market," said the report. "This further resulted in the council now receiving a substantially higher income than previously and a number of employees had been terminated." The report also stated the council had paid

Several complaints have been received by the Consumer Council of Fiji from consumers who feel cheated by duty free traders in the Western division. The consumers claim the traders fail to provide any redress to purchased faulty products. The Council says the number of complaints is expected to increase in the coming weeks as consumers will rush to duty free shops with the hope of getting a good deal. Council CEO Premila Kumar says they have witnessed duty free traders unwilling to assist and even listen to consumers when they seek redress. Kumar says it is the traders responsibility to handle and fix consumer complaints on default products.

4. Don 2 (Hindi) 45.40 crore approx 5. Ready 42.24 crore An interesting thing to notice is that with every new film, the PR mechanism tries to devise new tags to illustrate the film breaking new records, (esp. when the film fails to break any real records). So Don 2 wins the tag for the highest first day collection on a non-holiday Friday. Or sample this Don 2 broke the record of Bodyguard in Australia for the highest first day gross ever for a Hindi film (US$ 82,000) while Bodyguard managed (US$74,000). Vidhu Vinod Chopras new project, a love triangle Chitthiyan was offered to Shahid Kapoor. But, it is heard that, the actor turned down the offer after his last film Mausam went black at the box-office. I haven`t accepted any new offer except Maneesh Sharma`s. And it would be inappropriate to talk about the films I`ve said no to, said the 30-year-old actor. It seems that Shahid is not ready for another love story after what happened with Mausam. Says a close friend of Shahid, He is hearing at an average one script every day. For some strange reason, most of the films on offer, including Anand (`Tanu Weds Manu`) Rai`s `Ranjhana`, are love stories. Ideally, Shahid would want to do an action film next. Shahid has the highest regard for Vidhu Vinod Chopra`s work and was

Salman Keeps Close Watch On Don2 Collections Shahid Not Ready For Another Love Story!
Salman Khan has been keeping a close tab on the collections of Shah Rukh Khans last release Don 2, the very way Aamir had done post RA.One. In fact, Salman, revealed a source, spent the better part of the last four days at YRF Studios before driving off to his Panvel farmhouse for his birthday party, checking on the box office collections of the Farhan Akhtar directorial venture. A source informed, Salman was keeping an account of the collections of Don 2 ever since it hit the theatres on December 23. Distributors were calling him up every hour to keep him updated on the latest collections. Salman was even taking down notes. After he had evaluated the weekend collections of the film, Salman was heard telling his friends how it was important not to waste money on film promotions. The top five weekends are as follows: 1. Ra.One (Hindi) 52.90 crore 2. Bodyguard 52.62 crore 3. Dabangg 48.82 crore
keen to work with him. But a love story is not what he wants to do at the moment. He meant no offence to Mr. Chopra and would like to work with him in the future. At the moment the only film Shahid has said yes to is Maneesh Sharma`s next for the Yash Raj Films added the friend.
When filmmaker and close friend Rohit Shetty approached Ajay Devgan for the fourth installment of Golmaal, the actor had reportedly refused the offer. Ajay not being a part of the Golmaal series did not go down well with his fans. However, now the latest we hear is that the actor is very much a part of the film and the director is soon going to start working on the script of the film. But why did Ajay Devgan refuse being a part of the Golmaal series, initially?
Well, buzz has it that Ajay was not very happy about his previous film Singham Both, Rohit and Ajay had a difference of opinion over the way the film was shot. However, as a source says, now all is well between Ajay and Rohit. They are as thick as before. The shoot of Bol Bachchan, a project they are working together, is going smoothly. Now, that Ajay has agreed to do the project, the Golmaal 4 cast remains the same.

developments on the island. We know this would boost our tourist arrivals and we will be able to achieve our goals in 2012, he said. We are just a small part of the Tourism Fiji ship. This year, with an expected successful year, we should do better than that and it is just because we are now expanding our targeted areas of promotional work, he said. Mr Matsumoto said the resort was now hoping to expand in other targeted holiday destinations, selling their products in these countries. Mainly our strength lies in the Asian countries. We have guests from mainland China, Japan, and Korea coming in. Now we are happy to see that tourists from as far as Switzerland, Sweden and Netherlands are also coming, he said. 6,696 successful iTaukei scholarship graduates are now part of the qualified workforce in Fijis private and public sectors. This includes those who have moved on to join regional and international organizations and others who have migrated to overseas. In a release iTaukei Affairs permanent secretary, Savenaca Kaunisela said because of their qualifications, they have managed to secure sound employment and have contributed to the development back in their own village communities. For some, they were able to purchase properties, which are a first in their family history. These achievements brought about a realization among iTaukei on the importance of investment, resulting in a paradigm shift

A man charged with the murder of a taxi driver in Nausori pleaded not guilty in a special hearing at the Suva Magistrates Court. Thirty-year old Davendra Naicker was charged with three counts by the Nausori Police. He faces charges for murder, stealing a vehicle with registration number LT 3915 and driving a stolen vehicle without a licence. Naicker made the plea when he appeared
before Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili. He was denied bail on the grounds that he was causing tension in his community and also because of the seriousness of the crimes committed. Naicker is alleged to have killed a 35 year old taxi driver whose body was found at the Waituri irrigation area in Nausori last Tuesday. His trial has been adjourned to January 9, 2012.

The government is expected to come within $US100 billion of the current $US15.2 trillion ceiling by the end of the year, Treasury Department officials said on Tuesday. That effectively puts politicians on notice that they will have until mid-January to oppose a fresh increase. But a reprise of the vicious political debates over the debt ceiling that brought the US to the brink of default earlier this year is unlikely. Congress agreed on July 31 to immediately increase the national debt by $US400
billion, and then increase it in stages after that when necessary. An increase can only be blocked if both the House of Representatives and the Senate pass measures opposing it. In September the Democratic Partydominated Senate declined to block a $US500 billion increase. But the Republican-controlled House nevertheless passed a resolution symbolically rejecting the ceiling rise. With fiscal rectitude looming large as the 2012 election season gets under way in earnest, the new request to hike the
borrowing ceiling could sound the starting gun on a fresh political fight. The Treasury Department said it would have to perform some accounting and managerial acrobatics to make sure the US does not miss payments before the raise comes into effect in mid-January. If opposition to the increase is unsuccessful the limit will be raised to around $US16.4 trillion. That is expected to put the issue to bed until late 2012. A new rise in the debt ceiling is not expected to be needed until after the elections in November.

His broken leg is wrapped in a cast, his chin is covered in grazes and there is a look of innocence in his sad eyes.
This puppy's owner was refused bail amid accusations she threw the dog out a firstfloor window at her western Sydney unit. The owner, Lily Maihi, named the eightmonth-old ridgeback-staffordshire cross Kyza - but he has been nicknamed "Will" by police for his gutsy determination to survive. He was left with broken leg, broken teeth and internal injuries after Maihi allegedly tossed him about 5m on to a concrete driveway. The Court was told Maihi, 24, bought the dog from a neighbour three months ago for $30. She is charged with torturing, beating or seriously injuring an animal. Two friends chastised her about not cleaning up her dog's mess on her Kingswood unit's balcony on Boxing Day, the court heard. It is alleged an intoxicated and "aggressive" Maihi then "picked up the dog by its collar" and took him into her bedroom where, using two hands, she threw him out the window. "The dog gave a loud yelp, but remained motionless," documents tendered to the court claimed. A witness went to check on the dog, but was allegedly confronted by Maihi. Documents allege Maihi then "took hold of one of the dog's paws and began to pull it. When the witness yelled at the accused to leave the dog alone, she stated 'don't worry, it's my dog'." She then allegedly went to a phone box and called police to say "I threw my dog out the bedroom window". Maihi was arrested and held at Penrith police station where she allegedly again told officers: "Yes, I threw my dog out the bedroom window." While she applied for bail, it was refused, with the registrar noting that she is currently on two good behaviour bonds and only recently completed a suspended jail sentence. As news spread of the dog's ordeal, specialist surgeon at the Animal Referral Hospital in Baulkham Hills, Sarah Goldsmid, and her team began fielding calls from people, including some from interstate, who offered to adopt him. He arrived at the hospital covered in fleas and in desperate need of care, love and affection, Dr Goldsmid said. "When he came in he was a bit disorientated from hitting his head and he was crying," she said. Maihi will face Parramatta Local Court.

Financial planners advise making specific budget-friendly rules, rather than pronouncing overarching and often unattainable goals. Only allow yourself to eat one dinner out a week. Take a sack lunch to work most days. Vow to shop around for a new auto, home insurance and credit cards with lower interest rates and free balance transfers. Can you spare an extra $50 or even $20 a month to put toward paying off your student loans? If you're lucky enough to make it out of debt, the goal then becomes tucking some money away for retirement or a rainy day.
Quit Smoking
So you want to quit smoking? You should. It yellows your teeth, infiltrates all your clothing, irritates your significant other and charms only those in an ever dwindling crowd of fellow smokers. So what better time than now? Good luck. Only an estimated 15% of people who try to quit manage to stay cigarette-free six months later. True, there are a lot of products to help wean you off your nicotine addiction patches, chewing gum, "e-cigarettes". In any event, smokers, you have your work cut out for you. Think it over during your next cigarette break.
During the holidays, everything we consume is pretty much awful for us: eggnog, fudge, chips and dip, cheese balls. 2012 will be different. Gone are the days of nachos and chicken wings at happy hour and beltbusting brunches on Sundays. It's time to eat healthy. We promise to swap eggs and bagels for granola and oatmeal breakfasts; eat lean, protein-rich salads (nonfat dressing on the side, please) and fruit for lunch; cook fish and brown rice for dinner and serve it up with a side of spinach. It all sounds so good and possible on Jan. 2. The problem is that most people take this resolution too far by forcing themselves onto restricting diets they can't possibly keep. As the saying goes, try everything in moderation, including moderation. Eat healthy, but allow yourself a treat now and then. Otherwise, it won't be long before this resolution falls by the weight-side.
to think of in a new year are those exotic destinations we'd hope to seek out. Take that road trip to rugged Nova Scotia, ride a hot-air balloon over the strange terrain of Cappadocia, go on your first ocean cruise.
Be Less Stressed
You've been meaning to learn French. You'd love to play the piano. How great would it be to really know how to cook? Resolving to learn something new is exciting: the
After a particularly trying financial year (and the always budget-unfriendly month of December), consumers might call for a halt to spending and vow to manage their debt more effectively. With unemployment still high, the sad fact about this 2012 resolution is that many people will have difficulty accomplishing it, and not through
Everyone's busy these days, it's true. But blood is thicker than water, and the beginning of the year is an ideal time to reconnect with family that you haven't seen in a while. Great idea, right? Then February arrives, reality sets in, and you realize that the reason you didn't see cousin Jim more often is because he really isn't that interesting at all. Or that plan to spend more time with the kids? Well, it turns out that work doesn't magically disappear with the dawning of a new year, and you're at the office more than ever. It's a hard promise to keep no matter how sincere the desire.
It's not a bad idea to resolve to be less stressed. Even without the extra craziness presented by the holidays, it's easy to get overwhelmed by work and family obligations, to get carried away by an existential crisis or to create a crisis out of wondering whether or not you bought the right color handbag (worse still: experiencing all crises at once). Less stress can make you healthier and happier, so in the coming year you'll light soothing candles and take more bubble baths.
Volunteer
It may be a new year, but there are still old problems in the world. To start out on the right foot, you may resolve to lend a helping hand. You can help build a house, care for an animal, distribute food to the hungry, tutor a student. Volunteering could be the resolution that keeps on giving to yourself and to others.
Drink Less

After the morning of Jan. 1, it's not surprising you probably wish you drank less. The question is whether that resolve will last for the other 364 days of the year. Drinking less is undoubtedly good for you: it's better for your health, your wallet and probably your reputation.

If you get a rate-of-inflation pay increase, youre going effectively to be paying more income tax than you otherwise would, said Fildebrandt, noting the federal tax brackets will be adjusted by 2.8 per cent, whereas the Ontario inflation rate is 3.3 per cent. There is no real way to fix that because you cant adjust income tax brackets differently for federal taxes in different provinces, so unfortunately Ontario is going to come out behind on that. The Conservative government included a flurry of tax credits in the last federal budget that could bring a bit of relief to some Canadians. For example, families with ailing relatives will be eligible for 15 per cent of the maximum $2,000 a year (up to $300) they can claim in expenses related to ill and dependent relatives. The government also removed the $10,000 limit on medical expenses for disabled dependants that are eligible for a 15 per cent tax credit. Adults with children who share a home but are not married or in a common-law relationship think roommates or two sisters living in the same house will now be able to claim separate child tax credits. Previous rules limited the number of child tax credit claimants to one per domestic establishment, even if they were different families. Parents will get a 15 per cent tax credit on up to $500 they spend on enrolling their children younger than 16 in artistic, cultural, recreational or developmental activity programs. The tax credit a maximum of $75 must be used for membership or registration fees and not for equipment, which means no money back for buying that grand piano you have always wanted for your living room. The Canadian Taxpayers Federation argues that tax credits are not as useful as income tax cuts and wants the government to scrap them in favour of letting people take more of their salaries home in the first place. We under no circumstances consider tax credits to be tax cuts, Fildebrandt said. Theyre a form of expenditures simply meant to do one of two things: shape our behaviours and buy our votes ... What we want is the outright scrapping of the vast majority of tax credits and taking the revenues that we are currently foregoing from tax credits and exemptions and loopholes and put that towards overall lower rates. Meanwhile, the corporate tax rate is going

If you waited a long time for a cab last year, you can expect more of the same this New Year's Eve. Some suburban operators will get temporary licences to pick-up and drop-off customers in other jurisdictions like Vancouver, but Tim Land with White Rock South Surrey Taxi says they will be staying local. Amrik Mahil with Black Top and Checker Cabs says they will have 65 extra cars on the road. "New Year's Eve is probably the busiest time of the year, and we will do the best we can. We don't know what the weather is going to be like that day."

extravaganza dwells on the romantic journey of a tourist guide. Also featuring Waheeda Rahman in the star cast, the film with its critical and commercial acclaim influenced the making of a Hollywood version. Including some of the timelessly popular musical wonders, Guide gives fervent expression to the romantic persona of the memorable legend. Good friends Karan Johar and Ekta Kapoor are coming together to produce a love story with a twist. The film will be directed by newcomer Akshay Roy. Ekta and Karan have been friends for a very long time and always wanted to produce a film together. It was Ekta who went to Karan with the script. Karan heard just one line of the script and decided to be on board. The film is a modern take on love. It is a love story where the man and woman are taking each other on - in a powerful and sexy manner. There is a very strong manwoman chemistry based on a combination of sexual, social and political dynamics. The cast has not yet been finalised but they are planning to rope in big stars to play the lead.

Upholding the contextually relevant hippie culture- one of the features of the sixties and seventies; the film with its controversial aura happened to be the launching pad of Zeenat Aman. With a scintillatingly captivating musical score, the film reflects the gradual decline of the globally rampant hippie culture. Giving way to some of the falling values of the Westernized world, the socially significant flick incorporates some of the eternally glorious heart rending numbers.

Can The San Jose Sharks Become The New Public Enemy No. 1? Vancouver Canucks
The Vancouver Canucks and San Jose Sharks hooked up for their second meeting since last seasons Western Conference Finals in a game that was filled with playoff-type intensity. Vancouver won the matchup 3-2 in overtime, but this game could have gone either way. With NHL realignment putting these two teams in the same conference next year, are we seeing a budding rivalry? Many Canucks fans have bemoaned the loss of games against the Chicago Blackhawks that the new NHL conference setup will bring. They like to hate Chicago and will miss battling them on the ice and in the Western Conference standings. But Wednesday night showed us that the Canucks fans, and players, may have a new rivalry on their hands. The two teams dont seem to have the outright burning hatred that Chicago and Vancouver seem to have. What they do have are two loaded teams that play entertaining hockey games against each other. Wednesday's game could have easily slid into last seasons playoff series. While San Jose and Vancouver do not have a long history of intense games with each other, they seem to be on a collision course. Meeting in the playoffs last year with a Stanley Cup Finals berth on the line was just the beginning. So far, the two squads have intense games and Western Conference bragging rights standing between them. The animosity is building. In the third period of Wednesday's game, we began to see it brewing. The game got chippy when Ryan Kesler and Jamie McGinn got into a scrum that led to all 10 players on the ice getting to know each other. The scrum was highlighted by Kesler and McGinn having an amusing-looking conversation by themselves, Kesler leaning his chin on the butt end of his stick. Joe Thornton turned schoolyard bully after that by accidentally putting his glove in Henrik Sedins face while talking to the officials after the scrum had been sorted out. Thornton may turn out to be the target of Vancouver fans' hatred. A gifted player, he sometimes acts the fool and we saw that. After the glove incident, he seemed to jump all over the Sedins' backs. While this may irk Canucks fans, it actually seemed to make Thornton less efficient and maybe more importantly helps build a rivalry. Both franchises are in great shape, have shown a commitment to win and will probably be the beasts of the new, yetto-be-named conference. That will make for season-long battles and, without a doubt, more playoff matchups. The two teams meet again, in Vancouver, in a week. It will be interesting to see how chippy that game becomes.
