Rockhill Greens Unveiled in Official Groundbreaking Ceremony

Environmentally-responsible community will integrate residential housing and commercial businesses into existing medical uses of Research Brookside Campus
A local Kansas City developer, Rockhill Greens, has purchased 13 under-utilized acres of the Research Brookside Campus from Research Medical Center, located at 6601 Rockhill Road. A special dedication ceremony was held on November 30 to unveil Rockhill Greens, a residential housing and commercial business development. The concept for the new development is an environmentally responsible community including residential housing and commercial businesses, seamlessly integrated into the existing medical uses that will continue to be offered on the Research Brookside Campus. The development will promote a healthy-living life-style and sustainable design with parks, gardens, landscaping, and walking trails throughout the campus. The total acreage of the Research Brookside Campus is approximately 25 acres. Research Medical Center will retain the 6675 Holmes medical office building, the former hospital tower building and the connecting auditorium.

Some possible projects being proposed for the new development include assisted living and independent-living senior housing, adult day care and memory care facilities, data center/back office operations, market-rate townhouses or work-force housing, healthy-living themed retail such as a restaurant, coffee shop, organic grocery store, health club, and other commercial uses that embrace socially and environmentally responsible community development. We look forward to creating a unique mixed use community that focuses on a balance of sustainability, community programming, and favorable returns for our investors, says Kelley Hrabe, president of The Net Giver, who will be the project manager for the development. Tony Krsnich, vice president of Real Estate and Finance with Landmark Investment Group, leads the investment team for the development. We are Brookside residents and look forward to redeveloping and integrating this project into the surrounding community, states Mr. Krsnich. (contd on page 3)

What Our Patients Are Saying...

I just wanted to let you know that I am doing better and gaining strength daily. I started back to work part-time and hopefully in the next one to two weeks I can return to full duty. It was a very trying time during my hospitilization, but I got exemplary care from multiple providers involved with my treatment, along with all the staff, attendants, respiratory therapy and occupational therapy that provided me the best care possible. My family appreciates the quality of care that was offered for me. I hope you pass this on to all the staffing involved with my care to let them know how grateful I am for their commitment to excellent quality of care. Daljeet Singh, MD I was in for a scan in the Nuclear Medicine department and wanted to let you know how much the technician, Molly, impressed me. From the moment she came to the waiting room to get me (and throughout the entire procedure), she was kind, helpful, professional, friendly and genuine. During the scan, I had to stay in one position for a couple of hours. She did everything she could to make me as comfortable as possible, as well as explaining what was going on. It helped make it easier for me. In fact, since last summer, Ive had to come in for an x-ray, endoscopy, and ultrasound, and everyone Ive dealt with in those departments has been good, but Molly especially so--a real stand-out. I just wanted to let you know. Nancy W. Dr. Vik Zadoo possesses an excellent bedside manner, an outstanding skill as a surgeon, and he is a true patient advocate. He went out of his way to see my daughter with an injury to her hand over the past Thanksgiving holiday weekend and did it with a smile. He is a real asset to Research Medical Center. Please convey again our heartfelt thanks. Anonymous I was a recent visitor to the Endoscopy department for a scope procedure. Everyone I encountered did a thorough and professional job, especially Susan and Starla. Please extend my thanks to the entire department. William D. My dad, while still a patient in the hospital, was in the ICU for over three weeks. The care that he received from the nurses was incredible. There are not enough good things to say about them. Not only were they providing excellent care to him, but they understood the role of the family and went out of their way to keep us informed. I will forever be grateful to them for their extraordinary professionalism and compassion. Thank you Molly, Kelly, Rebecca, Jacki, Melissa, Michelle, and Sydney. (and anyone else I forgot). Thanks again! Karen D.

Amber received her bachelors degree in nursing from Research College of Nursing in 2004. She entered the nursing field so she could help others and was quickly drawn to oncology because of a personal experience. As a staff nurse, she loved the

During her seven years at Research Medical Center, Amber has held various responsibilities, including leadership in Gamma Knife, Cancer Center, IV therapy and most recently Oncology, Medical/Surgical and Nephrology.

connection that could be made with the patients and knowing she was making a difference.

Most recently, Amber accepted the role of associate chief nursing officer at Research Medical Center. She is a representative of the HCA MidAmerica Division Nurse Advisory Board of Directors through Healthtrust Purchase Group. She will finish her masters of science in nursing in 2012.

I became a leader because I wanted to work with healthcare staff to provide the best experience for the patient. I find great value in understanding the human condition and what drives individuals to provide great bedside care. With teamwork, removal of barriers, and the human connection, employees become more engaged and thrive on providing great care. All of this is the part

For Molly Garcia, RN, BSN, motivation is important in both her personal life, and in working with her Joint Camp patients. When I first started college, I had no intention of doing anything related to healthcare, but after my first couple of years, I still wasnt sure what I wanted to do with my career, Garcia admits.

Congratulations assigned Hargove, Environmental Services, for being selected Employee of the Month for December. Clinical Excellence Update

We askeD, You ansWereD, We listeneD!

The hot topics on this assessment were: Diabetes - Theresa Milton presented a Listen and Learn session in March and twice in November. She will present again in 2012. Pain Management - Stay tuned for a Listen and Learn session in 2012. Code Blue - We offered a Listen and Learn in February and will offer another one in 2012. 12-Lead EKG - We offered a review class in December and we are planning to do another in 2012. Infectious Disease - We offered a Listen and Learn in June and plan to offer another in 2012. Legal Documentation - We offered several classes in November and December and will offer more in 2012.
