1.1 Simultaneous Linear Equations in Two Variables

Simultaneous linear equation in two variables are two linear equations in two variables which have common solutions. (ii) Simultaneous linear equation in two variables can be solved using elimination or substitution method. (iii) Elimination Method: (a) Multiply one or both the equations by suitable numbers (if necessary) so that the coefficients for one of the variables differ only in signs. (b) Add or minus the two resulting equations to eliminate one variable. (c) Solve the resulting equation in one unknown. (d) Find the value of the other variable by substitution. (iv) Substitution Method: (a) Express one variable in terms of the other variable in one equation. (b) Substitute the espression in the other equation. (c) Solve the resulting equation in one unknown. (d) Find the value of the other variable by substitution.
