Case Study Analysis

About the Case The case is about the French company Decotile which operates in India with its 7 Quarries across the country and the company also exports their products to various parts of the globe. The company witnesses a sudden increase in the sales of granite exports in the 1990 s and decides to undertake a project to expand its production. Objective of the Project The Objective of the project undertaken was to increase the sales fourfold so as to meet the increasing demand of foreign buyers. Scope of the Project The Scope of the project was the more amount of outcome of granite so that the company can cater to the needs of the buyers. Issue The Main issue was the skeptical behavior of the stakeholders towards successful outcome of the project. Uncertainties Involved The decision of increasing the production from existing quarries may result in desired outcome or may not result in desired outcome. If not the company should have gone for a project to get the desired output from another quarry. Stakeholder Analysis Project stakeholders are individuals and organizations that are actively involved in the project, or whose interests may be affected as a result of project execution or project completion. They may also exert influence over the project s objectives and outcomes. The Best way to manage stakeholders is to have an effective communication system, such as Frequent and regular meetings, developing and tracking issues via an issues log and resolving conflict The ability of a stakeholder to influence a change is high at the beginning of a project and decreases as the project progresses. Conversely, the impact or cost of a change is low at the beginning of a project and increases as the project progresses.

Influence curve of the stakeholders Investors Investors of Decotile India would be more concerned with the cost of the project with respect to the return from the project along with the reputation of the company to meet the needs of the buyers, if failed to do so it may hamper the existing business of the firm. Employees/Labours The strong labor force of an organization helps to determine the outcome of the final product. As in case of Decotile they will be the main dependent force of the desired outcome. Local Population The local population is also significantly affectedly such a huge project being undertaken in their vicinity Law and Order The law and order of the location is also a stakeholder as it can affect the way the granite is produced.

Summary The success of the project depends on the outcome of the desired production of granite from the existing quarries. There are also chances of failures by undertaking the current project but increasing the capacity of the existing production. A Risk V/s Return analysis can be done in order to mitigate the risk involved with the financial aspects of the project so as to minimize the risk of the stakeholders. The Project manager can also use the Decision tree model in order to determine the probabilities of success or failure of the project undertaken.
