The Spine & Pain Institute of NY Participates in the New York Society of Interve ntional Pain Physicians First

Annual Conference Dr. Sudhir Diwan and Dr. Kenneth Chapman, doctors at The Spine and Pain Institut e of NY, along with the NYSIPP Board, hosted the New York Society of Interventio nal Pain Physicians First Annual Conference. Staten Island, NY, January 05, 2012 -- Dr. Sudhir Diwan, NYSIPP President, Dr. K enneth Chapman, NYSIPP Director, along with the NYSIPP Board, hosted the New Yor k Society of Interventional Pain Physicians First Annual Conference. The conferen ce was held at the beautiful Hyatt Regency on the Hudson in Jersey City on Novem ber 11-12, 2011 and was attended by over 250 healthcare and industry providers f rom across the nation. The conference, which provided Continuing Medical Education credits by Staten Is land University Hospital, began on Friday morning with opening remarks by Dr. Ch arles Vonfrolio, Chairman of Anesthesiology (SIUH) and Dr. Sudhir Diwan (NYSIPP President). Various sessions followed, with lectures from featured speakers who are leaders in treating patients suffering from pain. These lecture sessions inc luded Evolving Practice Paradigm, Advanced Neuromodulation, Evidence Based Pract ice of Pain Medicine and Most Important Goal: Patient Safety, where Dr. Diwan le ctured on head and neck interventions. During the breaks between lectures, attendees had the opportunity to visit the e xhibition hall where industry partners were providing information on their compa ny and products. St. Jude sponsored the industry lunch where Tim Deer, MD and Ro bert Levy, MD, PhD lectured on New Options in Spinal Cord Stimulation. Once Frid ays sessions adjourned all attendees were treated to a cocktail reception in the exhibition hall, followed by a dinner reception. This commenced with a piano con cert by accomplished pianist, Miles Dinner, MD. During dinner, the NYSIPP Board honored two outstanding physicians; Dr. Timothy Deer, with the NYSIPP Outstandin g Pain Physician of the Year 2011 and Dr. Laxmaiah Manchikanti, with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Although Dr. Manchikanti was unable to attend the conference due to a prior engagement, Dr. Staats accepted the award on his behalf. The dinn er also included a speech by keynote speaker, Dr. Timothy Deer, on the future of interventional pain medicine. The conference continued on Saturday with an industry sponsored breakfast by Ver tos Medical, where Dr. Timothy Deer lectured on the Mild Procedure. Lectures con tinued throughout the morning with the following sessions:Osteoporosis, Spinal F ractures and Evidence, and Practice Guidelines and Politics where Dr. Chapman le ctured on Workers Comp Guidelines in NY State. Dr. David Caraway lectured on Chan ges in Spinal Cord Stimulation Levels Effect of Position Changes and Biomechanic s on Patient Therapy at the Medtronic industry sponsored lunch. The lecture series concluded at 1:30pm, with the highly anticipated cadaver work shops beginning promptly afterwards. These workshops gave attendees an opportuni ty to obtain a hands-on approach to learning. The workshop stations included: Ep idural Lysis of Adhesions, Simplicity III, Mild Procedure, Spinal Cord Stimulati on, Vertebral Augmentation and Ultrasound for Peripheral Nerve Blocks. All those who attended the workshops were able to participate in each station. These elem ents of the conference were led by distinguished physicians and leaders in the p ain medicine industry, including Dr. Diwan and Dr. Chapman. Overall, the conference was very successful and many attendees voiced that they would be attending next year as well. When asked about the New York Society of I nterventional Pain Physicians First Annual Conference, Dr. Diwan said, I am thrill ed with the success of the first annual conference and that attendees found it t o be informative. Our goal was to bring together some of the best in the pain in dustry to educate and learn from each other. I believe we were successful in doi
