Another gr8 change to minimize dumped head people to become CCIE's and maintain the credibility of CCIE certification. Its almost like including troubleshooting section in the LAB which will require heafty real life experience. !!!Cisco!!!

I think the move towards using a platform like IOS XR was a rather bad choice. It woud have perhaps been smarter to exercise the concepts on platforms like the ISR Gen 2's with their new VPLS and MPLS features rather than isolate a huge section of the SP industry by requiring time and skills on ISO XR. The fact is there hundreds of ISP/SP in the market that will never use IOS XR. IOS XE sure but not XR. Testing on the ASR1K and 7600 perhaps, these are current real world systems. But IOS XR is primarily carrier grade kit. Since when did this exam become the CCIE Carrier exam?. The fact is now that I would rather spend my money on the JNCIE SP exam rather than this, at least I can train relatively in expensively for all exam topics using a JunOS symulator. And the fact is it will still get me the same jobs. Seriously Cisco bad call guys, you're going to isolate the very people you want to be fostering to buy your kit in the core of the SP networks. I would seriously hope the IOS on unix training environments and tools were ready soon or you guys are going to loose a lot of market share to Juniper and H3C in the Mid to Large SP market.

Martin, the IOS XR is not only for carrier grade networks, because the ASR9K is an SP edge

router which is engineered for the new network generations supporting many TenGigabit Ethernet which the 7600 series routers can't scale; also on top of that the beauty of the IOS XR is that supporting ISSU feature. I'm working on the IOS XR everyday, and I can admit that it's an amazing IOS which is engineered specifically for medium to large sized service providers and would be very ideal to have it in the new CCIE SP track... at end the CCIE certification is a Cisco certification which include what Cisco having from technologies and IOS's. - MaherZein I agree IOS XR is a great platform don't get me wrong on that issue. Incidently ISSU works on the 7600 as well. A freature which is handy when it works. But not particularily relevant when testing skills and experience in the SP space. As an employer those type of freatures are not hugely relevant when I need someone with SP build experience. Your argument regarding many TenGigabit interfaces is also not relevant as the 7600 can scale to some sense, regardless the CCIE SP is not about 10 Gigabit interfaces, its about skills and experience testing SP systems, maintly MPLS , VPLS , cell switching etc.

Martin, I think you are correct in what you have said in your mails specifically that the exam should focus on SP skills not 10 Gig interfaces. None of the vendors are providing bootcamps for CCIE SP v3 due to the cost of the equipment. Having passed the CCIE RS a number of years ago I am dubious about taking an equivalent exam at my own expense if no one is even willing to provide a bootcamp. Your comment about the JNCIE SP exam makes sense. Rob
