Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) grants admission to students through the entrance examination called, Joint Entrance Examination

or more popularly as JEE. It is considered as one of the toughest examination in the world. More than 400000 candidates appear for the exam and less than 9000 make it to IITs. For a competition as difficult as IIT JEE, student must be ready to prepare thoroughly and in a planned manner.

Steps
1. 1 Believe in yourself. The first step (and remember, someone wise once said that the first step is the most important step) in your preparation and your journey into one of the IITs is the belief in yourself that you have it in you to realise this dream. You will not reach far if you think getting into IIT is too tough for you and it is only the super-smart alien like geeks and nerds who manage to crack the exam. No! This is an absolute misperception. Ads by Google

IIT-JEE Preparation 2011 Prepared by India's Top IITians Free Tests & New Pattern Questions www.topchalks.com 2 You must convince yourself that the geeks and nerds who enter IIT every year are, though definitely smart, much like you and me in every respect. They also like listening to rock music or hanging out with friends. If they can do it, why not you? JEE syllabus is no rocket science; no one will ask you to prove the theory of relativity wrong or discover a new exotic particle before letting you in IIT. 3 Learn time management. A very crucial issue facing JEE aspirants like you is the problem of time management. Manage your time well. Give proper importance to all the three subjects i.e. Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. 4 Find out what you need for studying. There is no particular number of hours that you must put in everyday for studying. But one very important thing is to be regular and consistently follow your daily time-table. Also, make sure that you revise and practice regularly. For example, suppose that you are able to put in 4 hours of study everyday. You could possibly use 2 of those 4 hours for advancing along your (unfinished) syllabus and the other 2 for revising parts of what youve already covered up to that particular day. 5 Study. Now you need a proper study material which can guide you in the subjects. Lot of study material is available in the market for the JEE, including numerous books (both good and bad) and study material of various institutes (again, both good and bad). You must choose a good study material and stick to it. Switching from one book to another will harm your preparation. 6

Try getting hold of some good mentors. Locus Education provides free study material, worksheets and tests for students. Locus also have provision for free mentors. You can get online counselling through their web portal. 7. 7 Persevere. At the end the key to success is perseverance. Be calm and patient. You need not panic on the day of exam and give your absolute best on the IIT JEE examination day. Ads by Google

Tips
One very important thing to keep in mind is that you need not study for your Boards and the JEE separately. That is a very wrong strategy that many students tend to follow. This strategy might have made some sense when the JEE paper used to be very tough and the gap between the JEE level and the Boards level was huge. Studies should be your first priority, but not the only thing that you do. You must fit in other interesting activities in you schedule, things that you like doing. Figure out the time of the day that best suits you for studying. For some, it is early morning while for many others, it is late nights. Once youve determined when is the best time for you to study, construct your study schedule around that time of the day. Finally, if you are ever getting bored of studying, theres no point continuing. Take a break for a while and then try to start afresh. But this does not mean studying for 5 minutes and taking a break of 55 minutes every hour!
