The Alcatel-Lucent 5620 AIM analyzes network data and produces a series of reports suitable for network engineering purposes.

The rapid growth of the Internet has resulted in concurrent growth in networks that is difficult to predict and therefore difficult to plan. This network growth, together with a fiercely competitive environment and a high demand for new services, has left network engineers struggling to make sound and cost-effective decisions about network deployment. The Alcatel-Lucent 5620 Analysis and Inventory Module (AIM) is a network analysis tool that allows for network control. The Alcatel-Lucent 5620 AIM analyzes network data and produces a series of reports suitable for network engineering purposes. The Alcatel-Lucent 5620 AIM is the only tool available that can gather and analyze information directly at the node level from the Alcatel-Lucent 5620 Network Manager (NM). The Alcatel-Lucent 5620 AIM provides information about the contents of networks and databases in a clear, graphical format. The 5620 AIM carrier-class data warehouse provides more information than any other reporting tool.

Data Warehouse
Before reports can be viewed network data must be imported into the AlcatelLucent 5620 AIM data warehouse. The Alcatel-Lucent 5620 AIM will accept real-time data from the Alcatel-Lucent 5620 NM database, and the AlcatelLucent Statistics Collector. For some products, additional information which is not available in the Alcatel-Lucent 5620 NM database is obtained directly from the nodes. Historical data is retained in the database, allowing trend analysis in network inventory and performance.

Analysis Reports
There are over 150 standard reports from which to choose. Network engineers can also easily create ad-hoc reports or customize standard reports to better address their particular needs. All reports can be converted to Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, text (txt) or portable document format (PDF) for importing into documents, and to HTML for publishing on the Internet.

Inventory and Configuration Queries

A complete network inventory is valuable information for the network engineer. The Alcatel-Lucent 5620 AIM allows quick and easy inventory reports to be run on the whole network or just on the part of it, providing more inventory information than is available in the standard Alcatel-Lucent 5620 NM database. The Alcatel-Lucent 5620 AIM also has the ability to report information about connections (paths) and overlay links. Reports cover all important aspects from details about equipment configuration to status of individual circuits. Improperly configured cards can easily be detected and identified.

Graphical Topology Analysis

Proper network and node synchronization and control packet switching system (CPSS) design is required for a network to perform efficiently. This design is difficult to achieve without appropriate tools. The Alcatel-Lucent 5620 AIM addresses these areas with its advanced topology analysis capabilities. These capabilities allow interactive exploration and analysis of the synchronization and CPSS design of the network.

Performance Analysis
The Alcatel-Lucent 5620 AIM measures network performance using statistics collected from the Alcatel-Lucent Statistics Collector and availability and status events obtained directly from the 5620 NM. With the Alcatel-Lucent 5620 AIM, todays network performance can be compared with the previous days, weeks or months performance to help maximize the networks quality and effectiveness.

Utilization Queries
As the demands on the network increase, customers need to maximize technology investments. The AlcatelLucent 5620 AIM can be used to identify and pinpoint cards, ports, trunks, paths, or overlay links that are underutilized.

Alarm Analysis
In highly complex network environments, alarms are a regular occurrence. With the Alcatel-Lucent 5620 AIM, alarm trends can be analyzed by time and/or specific equipment and this information can be used to take corrective action in the network.
