STRIKE! OCCUPY! RESIST! SAY NO TO ALL CUTS! FIGHT FOR REAL JOBS! MAKE THE RICH PAY!

Cameron says the country is broken; NO - it is the capitalist, profit-driven, for-the-rich system that is broken! New, Blue Labour agree that working people should pay for the crisis caused by private business; that they should not strike to fight the cuts, that we should shut up and take the pain! There is an alternative Worker controlled industry and business; resident controlled community; an economy planned for social need not for private profit; nationalised, worker-run public transport and utilities

there is an alternative SOCIALISM!

The Socialist Party fights for socialist change - a democratic society run for the needs of all and not the profits of a few. We also fight, in our day-to-day campaigning, for every possible improvement for working-class people.

WHAT WE HAVE BEEN DOING!

2011 ELECTION
In the May 2011 local elections, the Rotherham Socialist Party stood in the local elections as a Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) candidate. We got 211 votes (5.1% of the vote). This confirmed that Socialism is in demand in Rotherham; we were encouraged by the result, we have built up our activism and are looking forward to the 2012 election campaign!

ROTHERHAM THE CUTS

AGAINST

Immediately after the 2011 elections, we helped to build up the anti-cuts movement in Rotherham. We have SP Rotherham members playing important roles in Rotherham Against the Cuts (RAC). We have helped to carry out general campaigning and have played important roles in the organising of the November 30th march and rally in Rotherham.

J30 AND N30 STRIKES

On June 30th and November 30th millions of working class people gave up a days pay, sending a message to a government that no one voted for and who are making cuts no one wants. On both days SP Rotherham members were out on picket lines and helped organise the rallies and marches associated with the strikes. The Socialist Party argue that everyone who supported the strikers should help make the next strikes about fighting ALL the cuts millions are unemployed, benefits are being cut, the poor are paying for the rich! We, along with many others, call on the TUC to escalate action in a co-ordinated way; the date of the next strike should be called before 31st January!

CAMPAIGNING
Rotherham SP members hold at least 2 campaigning stalls every week in Rotherham town centre, and have done for months. Weve broken our own targets for paper sales and fund raising, and weve recruited several new members this year! Were usually outside the old town hall, opposite the bus station entrance, every Friday from 11 until 1pm. We also do a mid-weeker on Tuesdays or Wednesdays and sometimes manage a Saturday all at the same times. If you see us out and about, pop over to our well-worn pasting table, have a chat and perhaps buy a copy of The Socialist the SPs weekly newspaper!
