Description of the Incident Describe in your own words how you have been victimized. My company (EFG Inc, aka EFG Research) is the victim victim of an ID theft and Fraud coming from this # 617 861 4479 (and others see below), presenting themselves as EFG Research Group or "ESG" Research group. I tried to google the number but, no info available. Also, these are the other numbers from which callers have received the same call from: - 914 373 7134 - 914 373 7170 - 914-373-7139 - 914-373-7137 - 435-750-4933 I called the police to figure this out. They refered me to an inspector who suggested that I file this claim with the FBI to retrieve the owners of this # fraudulently using a name close to our company name (EFG Inc). I have personally received tens of calls and emails from people complaining or calling to claim their trip to the Bahamas. Last week, I received a letter from the Court of North Carolina (better Business Bureau, Mr. David Fox)following a formal complaint form someone who was asked for her credit card info ($59) to secure her trip for 4. Many otehr individuals are apparently being called: http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-617-861-4479 I tried to collect some info on this number www.smartpeople.com), but all I found was the name and location of the telecommunication company hosting this number: RNK, Inc in Boston, MA. These people would not release the name of their client unless requested by the police or FBI or else. I'm not sure about the otehr numbers but I would assume they are hosted by the same company. What should we do? I had a client of a client receiving this call a couple of weeks ago. This might be extremely damageable for our image, in addition to the fact that this is taking a lot of our time to handle these complains. I have copies of about ten emails from people complaining. AS you'll see if you click provided above, one of the complainer is calling for use of guns and come down to our office!! I don't know if this should be taken seriously but I clearly can't take this lightly. PS: I'm the managing Director of EFG inc.

I spoke to him last week. He was supposed to call up this Rnk company to see whether he could ID the company behind the scam. I'll let you be the judge of his email, but a good Samaritan like that seems fishy to me. It's possibly someone from the company running the scam trying to direct me in the wrong direction purposely. The call began as a recorded message identifying the source as EFG Research Group and requested me to complete a 30 second survey. The message indicated that after completing the survey, I would be eligible for a free Bahamas cruise. The caller ID indicated the originating phone number was 914-373-7134. (FYI I called this number after speaking with you today, and it takes me directly to the same recorded message/survey).

I was certain the call was nothing more than a new version of a telemarketing scam, so I decided to follow through on the survey and attempt to gather as much information on the company behind the suspicious telemarketing activity.

After the survey was complete, I was transferred to a travel services representative. They went through their script for the free Bahamas cruise for 2 persons, after which I was requested to provide my Visa in order to pay for the $59.00 per person Port Fee (a total of $118.00). I did not provide any information, but was able to obtain some information that you may find useful in your efforts.

While getting the cruise information, the representative gave me the name, address, and website of his company (the address is supposedly the office from which he was calling, but also indicated the main office was located in Ft. Lauderdale, FL):

I did some further research on this company and have found the following:

I also found that they registered both websites with the following contact information: Caribbean Cruise Line 201 E. Pine Street, Suite 500 Orlando, fl 32801 (813) 918-3460 Michael Hunter (not sure what his title is possibly no longer in service) Based on information from various persons with the two organizations, Caribbean Cruise Line is owned by the company Celebration Cruise Line. It is interesting that when you speak to people from Celebration Cruise Line, they specifically refer to Caribbean Cruise Line as a third party wholesaler of Celebrations cruises. However, the people at Caribbean claim that they are the promotional department of Celebration and they are one in the same company (and located in the same building as each other). It would appear that Celebration wants to distance themselves from Caribbean Cruise Lines in order to maintain some level of credibility, while disavowing any knowledge of Caribbean Cruise Lines questionable, and illegal, marketing activities.
