Just Around The Corner...

There just isnt enough There just isnt enough time in the day. There just isnt enough of me to go around. There just isnt enough money. There just isnt enough help. There just isnt enough, plain and simple. The account of the Apostles in Acts 6:1-7 is interesting because brings up an important concept of the Church and the roles we have in reaching the lost for Christ, making them disciples and serving the needs of our own. We know the passage but tend to overlook the significance of it. It incorporates what happens when there just isnt enough. When you study the passage you notice there was a need among the Greek brethren for their widows were being neglected and were going hungry. There was a need for their assistance and some well-meaning souls brought this to the Apostles attention. What came next was unexpected by the ones who brought the complaint. It is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables. Acts 6:2b ESV. What the Apostles were saying was, they did not have a problem waiting tables and helping the needy but that when they did the opportunity cost was they would neglect the duties they were called to do. You see growth is a two edged sword when you dont focus on growth you are declining and when you focus on growth you stretch your resources. There are four types of people; ones who see a need and act through God, ones who see a need and act without God, ones who see a need, complain and do nothing, and finally, ones who see a need complain about it and get in everyones way. How would that tie in with the thought that there are no needy people in Lynchburg? (previous article) Well, we need to be careful that we dont just complain about it, but that we seek to find the best possible way we can help and then do it; dont just ignore it because we have other things to do. The beginning of a new year is when many of us make resolutions or try to get our account with God in order. If we have offended God by thought, word or deed, now is a good time to confess our offenses and to allow God to remove our transgressions from us. The Bible says, ... as far as the east is from the west, so far he removes our transgressions from us. In which of the texts below is that promise found? A. Matthew 6:14; B. 1 John 1:9; C. Philippians 3:13; D. Psalm 103:12 The Old Family Bible A little boy opened the big family Bible. He was fascinated as he fingered through the old pages. Suddenly, something fell out of the Bible. He picked up the object and looked at it. What he held in his hand was an old leaf that had been pressed in between the pages. Mama, look what I found! the boy called out. What have you got there, dear? asked his mother. The young boy answered in a voice hushed with awe, I think its Adams underwear.
