unique volvo protection For Driver anD guiDe. the drivers seat in the volvo 9700 comes with an integrated three-point seat belt. in order to improve safety for the driver and guide still further, volvo has introduced Front impact protection (Fip) and knee impact protection the first manufacturer to do so. the former is a frontal collision protection system that absorbs and diverts impact forces in the event of a frontal collision. knee impact protection reduces the risk of injury to the drivers knees and legs in a frontal collision. it consists of energy-absorbing panels positioned at knee height behind the instrument panel. in an impact where the drivers knees strike the instrument panel, the kinetic energy is absorbed by the impact panels which crumple gently and in a controlled manner to minimise injury.

Full control. getting behind the wheel of the new volvo 9700 gives an immediate sense of full control. the new, harmoniously designed drivers environment offers both high comfort and a commanding overview. the elegantly designed instrument panel is easy to read with a clear, large display for driver information positioned centrally in the main instrument binnacle. all the controls are logically grouped, positioned within convenient reach. large windows and mirrors with integrated close-quarter mirrors provide perfect visibility all round. the lighting itself is worth a chapter of its own. Daytime lighting is provided by leD lamps, which have a virtually limitless lifetime. its a solution that volvo was the first manufacturer to offer. the main headlamps provide a powerful beam of light and offer excellent night-time visibility. all the more so if you choose Bixenon lamps, which also have a far longer lifespan than conventional lamps. the new tail lights are large and positioned high up in the body so they can be seen clearly.

environmentally optimiseD. the volvo 9700 not only offers low fuel consumption, it also has particularly low emissions. the bus is certified for euro 4 and the 340 hp and 420 hp alternatives are already available in an incentive variant for euro 5, which will come into force within the eu in 2009. By after-treating the exhaust gases with scr (selective catalytic reduction) the nitrogen oxides are converted into harmless nitrogen gas and water vapour. the technology is simple and reliable, and has the huge advantage of being able to meet forthcoming emission requirements with particularly good fuel economy.

volvo First With Fups in Buses. in a frontal collision between a bus and a passenger car, it is the occupants of the car that suffer the greatest risk of injury. in order to improve their safety, the volvo 9700 is equipped with Fups (Front underrun protection system). the underrun protection system consists of a steel beam fitted behind the bumper that prevents the car from becoming wedged under the bus. in a collision, it absorbs the cars impact energy while at the same time giving under the impact and allowing itself to deform to lessen the force of the impact. volvo is the first vehicle manufacturer to fit this type of underrun protection system to buses.
