Methodology
The ALLTEC Protection Pyramid provides a three-step comprehensive facility approach for lightning protection, surge suppression and grounding solutions. Our system begins with the installation of a code compliant, single-point, low resistance/low impedance grounding system, sized to carry the full amplitude of short circuit current safely to the ground. Next, surge protection devices are staged to dramatically filter the voltage, current and frequency surges. Finally, a well designed lightning protection system is created to protect against direct lightning strikes.

Products
I. Grounding Systems
The three-step ALLTEC Protection Pyramid begins with the installation of a stable, low resistance/low impedance grounding system to bond all electrically conductive surfaces together. TerraDyne Electrolytic Grounding System TerraFill Ground Enhancement Material TerraBar Bus Bar Series TerraWeld Exothermic Welding System

II. Surge Suppression

The second stage of protection comes from a properly installed surge protection device or SPD system, which reduces the magnitude of random, high energy, short duration electrical power anomalies. These occurrences are typically caused by atmospheric phenomena (such as lightning strikes), utility switching, inductive loads, and more internally generated over-voltages. In response to this demand, ALLTEC offers: PowerTrip line of surge suppression products

III. Lightning Protection

Finally, a well-designed customized lightning protection system will be installed to safeguard facilities from direct lightning strikes. Traditional lightning protection methods as well as some of the most advanced technologies are available at ALLTEC Corporation: TerraStat Charge Dissipation Terminals TerraStreamer Early Streamer Emission Terminals

Let-through Voltage Test Parameters: Positive Polarity, Net voltages are peak (10%). All tests are static except 150 V MCOV modes. Let-through voltages on static tests calculated by subtracting sinewave peak from let-through measured from zero. 150 V MCOV mode let-through voltages measured from the insertion point on the sinewave. Each phase is the average of the 3 modes. In order to duplicate the results, the specified mode must be tested for all three phases (except N-G) and averaged together. (Individual mode or shot results may vary by more than 10%. Scope Settings: Time Base = 10 microseconds, Sampling Rate = 500 Megasamples/sec. These settings assure Let-through voltages test results are accurate). All tests performed with 6 lead length (external to the enclosure), simulating actual installed performance.

PTF Series
Frequency Responsive Circuitry
The PowerTrip PTF series has a response time of less than one nanosecond while having a short circuit rating of 200 kA per circuit, the industrys highest rating for a Surge Protective Device. FRC technology tracks the AC sinewave and responds to transient activity on the system at whatever polarity and phase angle it occurs- clearly offering the best available level of protection for your equipment from severe surges and ringwave transients. Intended for sensitive and critical load applications at main distribution panels, branch panels, motor control centers, and individual equipment disconnects. They are equally effective against externally generated high energy impulses and internally generated switching events. Ratings from 90 kA to 360 kA surge current per phase allow the devices to be located wherever they are needed. With the lowest let-through voltage in the industry, combined with a 25 year warranty, these are the perfect Surge Protective Devices for protecting expensive industrial and manufacturing equipment.

Let-Through Voltage Test Environment: Positive Polarity. Time base=1ms. All voltages are peak (10%). Surge voltages are measured from the insertion point of surge on the sine wave to the peak of the surge. All tests are Dynamic (voltage applied) except N-G which is static (no voltage applied). All tests were performed with 6 inches of lead length outside the device enclosure which simulates actual as installed performance. Single-pulse, surge current testing for all modes at rated currents, is in compliance with NEMA LS 1-1992. Single-pulse, surge current capacities of 200,000 amps or less are determined by single-unit testing of all components within each mode. Present industry test equipment limitations require testing of individual components or sub-assemblies within a mode for single-pulse, surge current capacities over 200,000 amps.

Surge Current Testing: Single-pulse surge current testing for all modes at rated currents as recommended by NEMA LS1-1992. Single pulse surge current capacities of 200,000 amps or less are determined by testing all suppression components within each mode as a group. Present industry test equipment limitations require testing of individual suppression components or subassemblies within a mode for single-pulse surge capacities over 200,000 amps.

AAK Series

AAK Series
AAK Series RJ45 Rack mount and wall mount protector will ensure the reliable operation of networked equipment connected to 10BASE-T, 100BASE-T Ethernet, CDDI , 100VG-AnyLan, ATM155 RS422, RS232, Token Ring, Lease Line, ISDN, T1, DDS, Dial-Up and most other communication interfaces.

FEATURES State-of-the-art, avalanche diode technology Compact, in-line installation High speed, high energy handling capability Low shunt capacitance to reduce signal loss Affordable, superior, equipment protection Improved reliability resulting in less down time

ORDERING INFORMATION To order an AAK, choose the connector type that accommodates the system application and the number of wires to be protected. NOTE Special units can be supplied for any voltage between 7.5 V and 240 V. The following information must be specified when ordering special units: Connector type and port assignment (ex. 24 ports) System application (ex. Ethernet)

BENEFITS

The AAK series offers protection from transients that damage critical/sensitive data and communication equipment. Transients can enter the electronic equipment through any connection, not just the power line. High energy surges from sources such as nearby lightning strikes, load switching and electrostatic discharge can result in expensive equipment loss and down time. A properly installed AAK model will clamp the over voltage event and keep the harmful transients away from valuable equipment. ALLTECs AAK series includes a 19 inch relay rack protector as well as 5 inch standoff units designed for wall mount applications or when space is limited. A wide variety of communication interface options are available including coax, 10/100/1000BASE T Ethernet, RS232, RS422, along with Power over Ethernet Modes A and B. On Telco applications we offer protection for T1 and other lease line environments. All models feature a response time of less than 5 nanoseconds.

INSTALLATION To install, insert the protector in series between the incoming communication line and the I/O port of the equipment to be protected. The protector ground wire must be connected to the metal chassis of the equipment being protected. Units should be installed at both ends of the data cable for the most effective protection. CAUTION! Ground wire must be grounded directly to the metal chassis of the equipment being protected. The equipment chassis must be connected to earth through a properly grounded AC power receptacle. WARRANTY 5 Year Replacement Program Limited Lifetime Warranty This warranty applies only to serialized products registered with ALLTEC Corporation and is subject to certain disclaimers and limitations. For a complete warranty statement, please contact ALLTEC Corporation. All specifications and dimensions are subject to change without notice.

The ATJ Series devices guard sensitive data networks against lightning induced surges, AC power interference, electrostatic discharge, and ground loop energies. Typical applications include: NICs, switches, hubs, repeaters, bridges, routers, point of sale terminals, modems, fax machines, telephones and most other types of communications equipment utilizing RJ45 or RJ11 modular telephone jacks. High speed avalanche diode technology is used in conjunction with low capacitance circuitry enabling the protectors to function at a much greater bandwidth without causing signal degradation. Standard units are available with up to 8 wires protected on the RJ45 devices, and up to 6 wires protected on the RJ11 device. All this, in combination with their small size, makes the ATJ exceedingly versatile. ORDERING INFORMATION To order an ATJ, choose the connector type that accommodates the system application and the number of wires to be protected.
