NATO attacks, Implications & Pakistans afterward strategy should b..

The unprovoked attack on two Pakistani Army check posts in Salala, Mohmand Agency by multiple NATO aircraft and ground troops on Nov 26 is likely to prove one of the lowest points in deteriorating US-Pakistan relations. The incident has occurred at a time when a heated debate is under way in Pakistan regarding the contents of a memo sent to Adm Mike Mullen that many believe was another attempt to limit the role of the Pakistani military in politics. There are two views prevailing regarding NATO attack; first, it might not be with the support of political government but only with the consent of Pentagon and CIA. Second, they might have attacked to prolong the stay of NATO and US forces in Afagnistan as Political government of Obama wants its drawl possible till 2014. Reaction of Pakistan on the attack: y y y y Pakistan, in retaliation, has stopped the transit of material to the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan. Pakistan also asked US to vacate Shamsi airbase, on lease to the US and from where the drones were reportedly operated, which was ultimately vacated on 10th December. At the same time, Pakistan has asked the US not to send any military delegations, and a similar embargo applies to Pakistani military visits to NATO countries. PM of Pakistan has announced in the press conference after the cabinet meeting in Peshawar on 14 December that uni-lateral action is not acceptable for Pakistan in future.

In addition, Pakistans decision of not attending the Bonn Conference; was more problematic for the US and its ally. Because, without the participation and support of Pakistan, the Afghan endgame cannot be concluded. There are two different views prevailing on the boycott of Bonn conference: y Some analysts are of the view that in this way Pakistan has provided room for opponent who want to minimize the role of Pakistan in afagnistan.

Unfortunately by boycotting the Bonn conference, Pakistan once again proved it does not want to be part of the solution." Ahmad Majidyar, American Enterprise Institute. Some say that its the matter of national security to boycott this conference. In my humble view, Pakistan should have attended Bonn conference and should have recorded its protest effectively. The Conference has ended without any clear cut conclusion after announcing the date for another international conference on the future of Afghanistan in the next year in Tokyo, Japan. y

Pakistans afterward strategy should b.. y y y y Pakistan should adopt clear cut policy, both with the Taliban and US. Pakistan should clearly explain its limits and concerns. It is high time to redefine policy towards US and Afagnistan. And most importantly, it should adopt the policy which is sustainable.

US foreign Secretary, Hillary Clinton announced a new policy in WOT:

TALK

FIGHT

BUILD

But its the dire need of time that US redefines its policy which should be based on Talk, Talk and only Talk. Dialogues and negotiations are the best strategy, for reconciliation and settlement of the conflicts.
