DEMOCRITUS : his contribution to psychology is his theory on perception, which holds that atoms emanating from objects penetrate through the receptors through the brain, there to create ideas. PLATO : is important in the history of psychology because of his distinction between mind and body in his famous dualism. He held that mind and body are two separate entities. GALEN : contributed his theory of the dependence of human temperament on physiological factors. Differences in behavior is attributable to the humors or vital juices of the body:

THE MEDIEVAL PERIOD

ST. AGUSTINE : combined platonic psychology with Christian thinking. He introduced and used the method of introspection. ST. THOMAS AQUINAS : combined Aristotelian notions to the theologically imperative idea of immortality.

THE PRE MODERN PERIOD

RENE DESCARTES : formulate a theory on mind and body interaction. JOHN LOCKE : introduced the idea as the units into which all experiences may be analyzed. GEORGE BERKELEY : ideas ( which in their own sum constitute mind ) become the only reality. DAVID HUME : wrestled with the problem between impression and ideas, between images and direct sensations.
