members of the Malaysian community, as such this project paper entails one of the services the society wishes to provide to the community, the computer education. The society wishes to rectify a severe problem that is presently effecting the students of the establishment of the school is an attempt to correct this problem. It will provide an opportunity for those underprivileged students from our community to learn about the information technology world, who otherwise would not have the opportunity to learn about it. Since its inception, the society has conducted numerous youth camps. These youth camps are designed to imbue the young men and women who attend these camps with ethical and spiritual values held dear within Malaysian community. The camps were established to foster comradeship and selflessness. It can be said that the key focus of the camps is to motivate the young men and women on striving to excel in any pursuit or undertaking. This is especially true in regards to educationally pursuits, where the society has held SRP, SPM and university lectures examiners and motivational experts conduct the camps. The effort of the society to assist youths who have been marginalized has been rewarding. The government strategy on computer education in the schools has been to stress todays employment opportunities. Youths without such opportunities would be computer illiterate. It is for this reason that the society has established a computer education program for those most in need of the education. Development since Inception In 2001, the society established a computer education program to provide opportunities to those who are computer illiterate and who are unable to afford the exorbitant fees of such programs. This program was only possible when Dato Sivaparansothi made his initial donation towards the construction of two rooms as a computer laboratory, located within the new building complex. Later he donated further sum for the set up of the network system. Since its inception, a subcommittee comprising of professional and technological experts in IT planned, implemented and managed the computer curriculum. As the course gained momentum there was a need to employ a full time teacher and in 2003 the society engaged Sri Shanmugam to run the curriculum thus, increasing the classes from 2 days a week to 4 days a week, with 2 to 3 sessions a day. This convience encouraged more students to enroll themselves in any 2 of these sessions. The computer classes began to be progressively popular which prompted the society to seek help of Microsoft or any relevant corporate to support the computer school with either financial or technical help. In 2005, the computer school took a turn when Microsoft International, under its Microsoft Unlimited Potential Training Program responded positively by donating free software, licensing and teaching modules to the school. This recognition gave the computer education program a chance to publicly advertise the course and aggressively market the new program to the community in and around Batu Caves.
The new Microsoft courses consists of Ms Word, Ms Excel, Ms Powerpoint, Internet and Email all incorporated into a single module which will take 3 months to complete. The fee is RM100.00 and is heavily subsidized by the society. Furthermore, poor students will be given free scholarships on a case to case basis. The society is happy to announce that about 274 students have graduated from the computer school so far but many more have attended the classes without sitting for the exam. Students of all walks of life irrespective of age group and mostly from the poor and needy benefited from this program. Some were able to find employment while others especially school students could utilize their new found skills for their project work etc. When operating at it full potential the school will consist of twenty students and four education staff members. The goal of the administration and management committee of the school is to have twenty-two computers with network and internet facilities.
