This wine is big and bold. The colour is inky dark. It has a eucalyptus,
savory, chocolate and vanilla bouquet (The vanilla coming from aging in all

the palate there are ripe red fruits, good tannins, some sweetness and

The grapes come from 6 different regions of Australia. This wine was inky
dark, leaving long tears on the sides of the glass. The bouquet showed

light toastiness. Light citrus, pineapple and mango flavours. Some

Organic. Deep red appearance. Bouquet oak, leafiness and licorice.
Cabernet Licorice flavour continued onto the palate along with dark fruit and sour
2 Chile Carmen Nativa Sauvignon 2001 cherry. The tannins were not overly strong.

Vina Lomas de The vines are 80-105 years old. The wine had a camphor or licqorice
2 Chile Cauquenes Maipo Pais 2000 bouquet, along with sour cherry. The cherry flavour continued on the palate.

Cabernet / Ruby purple in appearance. Bouquet of oranges, aftershave, wood smoke,


2 Chile Cono Sur Organic Carmenere 2003 autumn forest and spice. This wine was sweet and round on the palate.

Produced with the biodynamic method. BIG fruit. Ruby red in the glass.
Cedar, oak, cherries, plums and black current aromas. Flavours of sweet
3 Australia Avonmore Shiraz 2001 cherries, vanilla and cedar on the palate. A full-bodied, yet elegant wine.

Brickish appearance. The bouquet was of black tea, as well as a dustiness.
3 South Africa Rozendal Stellenbosch Blend 1998 Very smooth with a medium body. Some cherry flavours.
Still very youthful, but could afford 8 years of aging potential. This wine was
purple in the glass. The bouquet had capsicum, cherries, raspberries and
3 South Africa Rozendal Stellenbosch Blend 2001 floral notes. Medium tannins and sour cherry flavours.
Pinot Noir /
2 South Africa Graham Beck Sparkling -Brut Chardonnay NV Brillant golden colour and had honey, apple, biscuity aromas and flavours.
Light/medium red in colour. Herbaceous, smoky, sausage aromas. Tannins
1 Apr-06 South Africa Beyerskloof Pinotage 2003 were a bit harsh. Flavours of red fruits and a hit of banana.

Very deep red in appearance. Bouquet was very fragrant, with dark red
fruits, oak, tar and cocolate. Very round mouthfeel, with some sweetness.
3 Apr-06 South Africa Fairview Primo Pinotage Pinotage 2001 There was also some chocolate, coffee and spicy flavours. Very long length.
The wine had a brown appearance with a brickish edge. The wine had a
very pronounced pruney / porty aroma. The portiness continued on the
2 Apr-06 South Africa Kaapzicht Merlot 1998 palate, along with red fruits. it did have a nice mouthfeel and long finish.
A well aged, elegant wine. Medium red appearance with a bit of a brickish
edge to show it's age. Aromas of prunes, plums and cinnamon. The wine
was very soft with some sweeetness. There was also plummy, gamey and
2 Apr-06 South Africa Landskroon Merlot 1999 tarry flavours.

Ruby Cabernet Medium red appearance and a dusty nose. There was some spice to this

Deep red in appearance. It had a complex bouquet, with herbacious, green
Cabernet peppers and smokiness. This wine had very little fruit flavour. The wine was
1 Apr-06 South Africa Wildekraans Sauvignon 1999 tannic with some bitterness.
This wine was purple in the glass, very extracted. The bouquet was very
complex. Early on there was a barnyard aroma, but as the wine aired, this
aroma faded and one then was treated to violet, coffee, sweet, and smoky
aromas. One tasted red cherries, some spiciness, and chocolate. The
3 Apr-06 South Africa Glen Carlou Stellenbosch Syrah 2003 tannins were supple and the oak well integrated.
Steen is the Afrikaan's word for the Chenin Blanc grape. "Op Hout" means
"on wood". This wine was the first Chenin Blanc to be oaked in South Africa.
The wine was light bodied, had a smooth mouthfeel, and some nice acidity.
2 Apr-07 South Africa Mulderbosch Steen Op Hout Chenin Blanc 2002 There was some oak and waxiness on the nose.

Hamilton Russell Light red in appearance. Big bouquet, with coffee, tar, cherries, iodine and

Ruste en Vrede means "Rest and Peace" or "Peace and Quiet". Lovely
deep red colour in the glass. Aroma was very fruity, with tones of wet
Cabernet leather and oak. Sweet entry upon tasting followed through with long length
3 Apr-07 South Africa Ruste en Vrede Stellenbosch Sauvignon 2002 and an acidic finish. Spiciness and dark fruit flavours.

Cabernet Aromas of classic cedar and cassis. As well there was some green pepper

Simonsig means "in sight of Simonsburg Mountain". Aromas of banana,
oak, dark fruit, chocolate, and prunes. Banana aroma is a characteristic of
Frans Malan the Pinotage grape. Medium tannins, some spiciness, and flavours of

Deep red with big legs. On the nose there was dark fruit, mint and some
sweetness, similar to what you would get with an Australian shiraz. The
wine had a sweet entry, but also had some firm tannins and ended a bit
1 Apr-07 South Africa Radford Dale Stellenbosch Shiraz 2003 astringent. There were coffee and mint flavours.
Wonderful purple hue in the glass. The bouquet was varied with coffee,
chocolate, savory and biscuity. Good length and acidity. There were sweet,

Extracted reddish purple colour in the glass. Nose was fruity, perfumy and
Boekenhoutskloof minty. Nice round mouthfeel. Oak was not overpowering. There was some

Part of the first vineyard in South Africa. Wine depends on the grapes being
affected by the botrytis cinerea fungus. This only occurs in years when it is
cool and damp during the harvest. Brilliant orangey hue in the glass.
Wonderful apricot, honey and botrytis (honeysuckle) aromas. Good acidity
Sauvignon to keep the wine refreshing and not cloyingly sweet. Flavours of oak, honey,

Fundacion Wonderful cherries and vanilla aroma and flavour. The vanilla coming from
3 Argentina Prestigio Tempranillo 2000 aging the wine in American oak.
Sauvignon Silky smooth, with good acidity to balance the sugar. It had a honeyed nose
3 Chile Concha y Toro Late Harvest Blanc 2001 and flavour.
Sauvignon Pronounced peach and melon aroma and flavour. Good acidity and
3 Chile Errazuriz Late Harvest Blanc 2000 pronounced fruit.
Gold Label Huge flowery bouquet. No typical Gewurztraminer aromas or flavours here.
3 Australia Wolf Blass Botrytis Gewürztraminer 2003 Ginger, cloves and cinnamon flavours, without being overbearing.
This wine was purposely oxidized giving it it's dark reddish brown

Late Harvest Dusty aroma and a faint smell of nail polish, which is one of the aromas
1 South Africa Laborie Estate Pineau Pinotage 1998 known for Pinotage. It was quite hot on the tongue.
Light pinkish in the glass. Excellent balance with all the elements of fruit,
brandy, sugar, oak and acidity. A bit of maderized aroma and oak and had
3 South Africa Paarl Tawny Port Blend NV some coffee/toffee flavour.

Very grapey aroma with some leather. It had a deep, opaque purple colour
3 Australia D'Arenberg Shiraz 2000 which coated the glass when it was swirled. Good acidity and tannin.
Some brickish colour on the edges of the glass. Some spicy, leathery and
3 Australia Angoves Vintage Port Blend 1995 chocolate notes.
Very fruity bouquet with lots of fruit and cherries in the taste. It was a very
2 South Africa Beaumont Pinotage 2000 easy to drink wine with no tannic aftertaste.
A vintage champagne-type wine. Classic blend of 50% chardonnay and
Twee Jonge Krone Borealis 50% pinot noir. Pleasant biscuity aroma, leading to a leesy creaminess
2 Feb-04 South Africa Gezellen Cap Classique Sparkling 1997 taste with fine bubbles.
Sauvignon Pale straw in appearance, with a citrus and gooseberry bouquet and taste of
2 Feb-04 South Africa Porcupine Ridge Blanc 2002 passionfruit, ripe fruit in general and some citrus.
Pale straw appearance. Pronounced bouquet with oaky, honey,
Sauvignon mineraliness and gooseberries. Citrus and steeliness/flintiness on the
2 Feb-04 South Africa Vergelegen Blanc 2002 palate. Good fruit-acid balance.
The top Semillon in South Africa. Aged in Burgundian oak. Some
Sauvignon Blanc added to it. The colour has golden intensity. Bouquet has
apricot, lanolin, butterscoth and vanilla. Smooth mouthfeel. Light acidity and

Light cherry appearance. Bouquet follows with cherry and some savoriness.

Cabernet Deep purple/ruby red appearance. Bouquet had milkiness, vanilla and

Viewed as the benchmark Syrah in South Africa. Deep purple appearance.

At first it's aroma was of sweaty saddle and earthiness, later followed by
oranges, and lastly with some mintiness. The flavours of this wine included

Deep red appearance. The bouquet was of tomato or butterscotch, with
latter chocolate liquor. The wine had a smooth texture, with medium tannins

More intense bouquet and flavours than found in the regular Dona Paula,
but was more integrated than it's sibling. The wine was deep ruby red. The
Selecion de wine had oak, followed by cherries and blackberries on the palate with a
2 Sep-04 Argentina Dona Paula Bodega Malbec 1992 medium to long finish.
Quite closed but had some notes of red berries and mint. The flavours was
1 Sep-04 Argentina Dona Paula Los Cardos Malbec 2002 mainly of oak, with very little fruit.
Deep, purple appearance in the glass. Spice, cherries, violets and pencil
shavings aromas. Very smooth and full with nice tannins. Dark fruit and
3 Sep-04 Argentina Catena Alta Malbec 2002 chocolate were also present.
Petrol aroma, which older riesling wines exhibit, along with citrus and stone
3 Oct-04 New Zealand Babich Riesling 2002 fruits. It was semi-sweet on the palate with ligh acidity.

Very deeply coloured and all had long finishes. Capsicum, plum and oaky
aromas. On the palate, the plum flavour continued. The wine had soft

Some brickish tinge was visible at the end of the glass. Wine had oak,

Deep purple in appearance. It had earthy, barnyard aromas. This is a very

Very deep red to purple. Bouquet of plum, spice, chocolate and oak. Dark

Lighter aroma, with some raspberry and metal. The wine had a soft, light

A big wine. The bouquet was very complex with wild red berries, smokiness,
some oak, and minerality. On the palate one tasted black cherries and

A complex bouquet, exhibiting candy, mint, dustiness and wild herbs. The
wine had a peppery finish with subdued tannins. The new oak barrels used
2 Feb-06 Australia Wynn's Estate Shiraz 2004 to age this wine provided a sweet aroma to the wine.

This wine had a wonderful barnyard, chocolate and eucalytpus aromas. The
3 Feb-06 Australia Leasingham Bin 61 Shiraz 2002 chocolate taste continued on the palate along with coffee and dark cherries.
This wine had herbal and eucalyptus aromas. Chocolate and cherry

A really nice nose. There was eucalyptus, iodine, some vanilla and oak. A
nice round mouthfeel. One tasted dark cherries and chocolate. Overall a
3 Feb-06 Australia Saltram Mamre Brook Shiraz 2002 well structured wine.
Reserve Bin Light body and soft tannins. There was some apple flavour to this wine.

As this is an aged sauvignon blanc, the wine was golden in colour. Vegetal,
Sauvignon honey, and apricot aromas. Some acidity and a nice round mouthfeel. Due

Paretai is a Maori word for river bank. This was was pale straw in

True to being an aged riesling wine, this one was golden in appearance as
well as the characteristic petrol aroma. There was as well as some apple

This is a top tier chardonnay from Matua. This wine had melon, pear, sweet
spices, butter, oak and vanilla aromas. It had a round mouthfeel, with some

Very light red appearance. Bouquet was primarily of strawberries and

Light honey, oak and peach aromas. There were big legs on this wine,
which suggests a high alcohol content, but it was very well balanced with

2 Mar-08 South Africa Raats Original Chenin Blanc 2006 apple flavours. Creaminess from extended lees aging.
Had a wide range of peachy, spicy and flowery notes. The spiciness and
peachiness continued on the palate. It was a lighter bodied Vouvray and
2 Mar-08 France - Loire Chateau Gaudrelle Vouvray Chenin Blanc 2005 also had a bit of residual sugar.
