This wine is big and bold. The colour is inky dark. It has a eucalyptus,

The grapes come from 6 different regions of Australia. This wine was inky
dark, leaving long tears on the sides of the glass. The bouquet showed
Cabernet some oak from both French and American barrels along with blackcurrant

light toastiness. Light citrus, pineapple and mango flavours. Some
2 Chile Carmen Nativa Chardonnay 2000 malolactic fermentation giving a rich mouthfeel.
Organic. Deep red appearance. Bouquet oak, leafiness and licorice.
Cabernet Licorice flavour continued onto the palate along with dark fruit and sour
2 Chile Carmen Nativa Sauvignon 2001 cherry. The tannins were not overly strong.

Vina Lomas de The vines are 80-105 years old. The wine had a camphor or licqorice
2 Chile Cauquenes Maipo Pais 2000 bouquet, along with sour cherry. The cherry flavour continued on the palate.

Cabernet / Ruby purple in appearance. Bouquet of oranges, aftershave, wood smoke,

2 Chile Cono Sur Organic Carmenere 2003 autumn forest and spice. This wine was sweet and round on the palate.

Produced with the biodynamic method. BIG fruit. Ruby red in the glass.
Cedar, oak, cherries, plums and black current aromas. Flavours of sweet
3 Australia Avonmore Shiraz 2001 cherries, vanilla and cedar on the palate. A full-bodied, yet elegant wine.

Still very youthful, but could afford 8 years of aging potential. This wine was
purple in the glass. The bouquet had capsicum, cherries, raspberries and

Light/medium red in colour. Herbaceous, smoky, sausage aromas. Tannins

Very deep red in appearance. Bouquet was very fragrant, with dark red
fruits, oak, tar and cocolate. Very round mouthfeel, with some sweetness.
Fairview Primo Pinotage Pinotage 2001 There was also some chocolate, coffee and spicy flavours. Very long length.
The wine had a brown appearance with a brickish edge. The wine had a
very pronounced pruney / porty aroma. The portiness continued on the
Kaapzicht Merlot 1998 palate, along with red fruits. it did have a nice mouthfeel and long finish.
A well aged, elegant wine. Medium red appearance with a bit of a brickish
edge to show it's age. Aromas of prunes, plums and cinnamon. The wine
was very soft with some sweeetness. There was also plummy, gamey and
Landskroon Merlot 1999 tarry flavours.

Ruby Cabernet Medium red appearance and a dusty nose. There was some spice to this
Bergsig / Merlot 2000 wine, along with fruity flavours, which came from the Merlot.
Deep red in appearance. It had a complex bouquet, with herbacious, green
Cabernet peppers and smokiness. This wine had very little fruit flavour. The wine was
Wildekraans Sauvignon 1999 tannic with some bitterness.
This wine was purple in the glass, very extracted. The bouquet was very
complex. Early on there was a barnyard aroma, but as the wine aired, this
aroma faded and one then was treated to violet, coffee, sweet, and smoky
aromas. One tasted red cherries, some spiciness, and chocolate. The
Glen Carlou Stellenbosch Syrah 2003 tannins were supple and the oak well integrated.
Steen is the Afrikaan's word for the Chenin Blanc grape. "Op Hout" means
"on wood". This wine was the first Chenin Blanc to be oaked in South Africa.
The wine was light bodied, had a smooth mouthfeel, and some nice acidity.
Mulderbosch Steen Op Hout Chenin Blanc 2002 There was some oak and waxiness on the nose.

Hamilton Russell Light red in appearance. Big bouquet, with coffee, tar, cherries, iodine and

Ruste en Vrede means "Rest and Peace" or "Peace and Quiet". Lovely
deep red colour in the glass. Aroma was very fruity, with tones of wet
Cabernet leather and oak. Sweet entry upon tasting followed through with long length

 Cabernet Aromas of classic cedar and cassis. As well there was some green pepper

Simonsig means "in sight of Simonsburg Mountain". Aromas of banana,

Frans Malan the Pinotage grape. Medium tannins, some spiciness, and flavours of

Deep red with big legs. On the nose there was dark fruit, mint and some
sweetness, similar to what you would get with an Australian shiraz. The
wine had a sweet entry, but also had some firm tannins and ended a bit

Wonderful purple hue in the glass. The bouquet was varied with coffee,
chocolate, savory and biscuity. Good length and acidity. There were sweet,

Extracted reddish purple colour in the glass. Nose was fruity, perfumy and

Part of the first vineyard in South Africa. Wine depends on the grapes being
affected by the botrytis cinerea fungus. This only occurs in years when it is
cool and damp during the harvest. Brilliant orangey hue in the glass.
Wonderful apricot, honey and botrytis (honeysuckle) aromas. Good acidity
Sauvignon to keep the wine refreshing and not cloyingly sweet. Flavours of oak, honey,

Fundacion Wonderful cherries and vanilla aroma and flavour. The vanilla coming from

Sauvignon Pronounced peach and melon aroma and flavour. Good acidity and

Gold Label Huge flowery bouquet. No typical Gewurztraminer aromas or flavours here.

Late Harvest Dusty aroma and a faint smell of nail polish, which is one of the aromas

Light pinkish in the glass. Excellent balance with all the elements of fruit,
brandy, sugar, oak and acidity. A bit of maderized aroma and oak and had

Very grapey aroma with some leather. It had a deep, opaque purple colour
3 Australia D'Arenberg Shiraz 2000 which coated the glass when it was swirled. Good acidity and tannin.
Some brickish colour on the edges of the glass. Some spicy, leathery and
3 Australia Angoves Vintage Port Blend 1995 chocolate notes.
Very fruity bouquet with lots of fruit and cherries in the taste. It was a very
2 South Africa Beaumont Pinotage 2000 easy to drink wine with no tannic aftertaste.
A vintage champagne-type wine. Classic blend of 50% chardonnay and
Twee Jonge Krone Borealis 50% pinot noir. Pleasant biscuity aroma, leading to a leesy creaminess

Sauvignon Pale straw in appearance, with a citrus and gooseberry bouquet and taste of

Chardonnay 2002 Flavours of nectarine and lime. There was spiciness and acidity on the palate

Deep red appearance. The bouquet was of tomato or butterscotch, with
latter chocolate liquor. The wine had a smooth texture, with medium tannins

More intense bouquet and flavours than found in the regular Dona Paula,
but was more integrated than it's sibling. The wine was deep ruby red. The
Selecion de wine had oak, followed by cherries and blackberries on the palate with a
2 Sep-04 Argentina Dona Paula Bodega Malbec 1992 medium to long finish.
Quite closed but had some notes of red berries and mint. The flavours was
1 Sep-04 Argentina Dona Paula Los Cardos Malbec 2002 mainly of oak, with very little fruit.

shavings aromas. Very smooth and full with nice tannins. Dark fruit and

Petrol aroma, which older riesling wines exhibit, along with citrus and stone

Sauvignon gooseberries and grass. Gooseberry continues upon tasting and had light
Saxenburg Private Collection Blanc 2004 acidity.
Oak and a lanolin bouquet to this wine. Very round mouthfeel, along with
Saxenburg Private Collection Chardonnay 2003 some spiciness and oak. Long finish.

Gwendolyn Cabernet This wine had tomato, oak, vegetal aromas. The flavours were of cherry and
Saxenburg Family Selection Sauvignon 2000 leather. It had low tannins and a long finish.
Deep purple coloured. Bouquet had some of the signature banana and
acetone aromas. Flavours of dark cherries, spice and some banana. The
Saxenburg Private Collection Pinotage 2000 wine still was a bit tannic.
Very deeply coloured and all had long finishes. Capsicum, plum and oaky
aromas. On the palate, the plum flavour continued. The wine had soft
Saxenburg Private Collection Merlot 2000 tannins and a round mouthfeel.
Some brickish tinge was visible at the end of the glass. Wine had oak,
Cabernet leather, plum, capsicum, and earthy aromas. Sweet cherry flavour. Not very
Saxenburg Private Collection Sauvignon 2001 tannic, but it was noted that the acid level was going up, due to it's age.
Deep purple in appearance. It had earthy, barnyard aromas. This is a very
smooth wine. There was some sweetness and flavour of cherries. The wine
Saxenburg Private Collection Shiraz 2001 had soft tannins as it underwent malolactic fermentation.
Very deep red to purple. Bouquet of plum, spice, chocolate and oak. Dark
cherries and cracked black pepper flavour. Firm tannins and a bit of
Palandri Shiraz 2002 sweetness.
Lighter aroma, with some raspberry and metal. The wine had a soft, light
Blue Pyrenees Estate Shiraz 2002 body, with some tannins and a bit astringent.
A big wine. The bouquet was very complex with wild red berries, smokiness,
some oak, and minerality. On the palate one tasted black cherries and
Shaw and Smith Shiraz 2003 pepper.
A complex bouquet, exhibiting candy, mint, dustiness and wild herbs. The
wine had a peppery finish with subdued tannins. The new oak barrels used
Wynn's Estate Shiraz 2004 to age this wine provided a sweet aroma to the wine.
This wine had a wonderful barnyard, chocolate and eucalytpus aromas. The
Leasingham Bin 61 Shiraz 2002 chocolate taste continued on the palate along with coffee and dark cherries.
This wine had herbal and eucalyptus aromas. Chocolate and cherry
Tyrrell's Rufus Stone Shiraz 2001 flavours, and had medium tannins.
A really nice nose. There was eucalyptus, iodine, some vanilla and oak. A
nice round mouthfeel. One tasted dark cherries and chocolate. Overall a
Saltram Mamre Brook Shiraz 2002 well structured wine.
Reserve Bin Light body and soft tannins. There was some apple flavour to this wine.
Lindeman's 9603 Shiraz 1998 With the age, this wine was throwing sediment.
As this is an aged sauvignon blanc, the wine was golden in colour. Vegetal,
Sauvignon honey, and apricot aromas. Some acidity and a nice round mouthfeel. Due
Wairau River Blanc 2000 to the aging, it also had a woody/nutty flavour.
Paretai is a Maori word for river bank. This was was pale straw in
Sauvignon appearance but left big legs in the glass. It had a petrolly, citrus and pine
Matua Paretai Blanc 2005 needle aromas. There was nutty, citrusy and oily flavours.
Pale straw in appearance. Very aromatic with petrol, perfume and spice.
Nice balance between sweetness and acidity. There was flavours of petrol,
Pegasus Bay Riesling 2004 apple and nutmeg.
Gewurztramine Lychee, rose petal and honey aromas. Flavours of citrus and woodiness,
Brancott Vineyards Patutahi r 2002 and had a tangerine finish.
Tropical fruit, oak and vanilla aromas. It had a round mouthfeel, with spicy,
Wither Hills Chardonnay 2004 apple and peach flavours.
Light red, candy coloured appearance. Bouquet was primarily of cherries,
with some earthy aromas. A bit of spice and acidity to this wine. Cherry
Sileni Saignee Rose Merlot 2005 flavour and a short finish.
Medium cherry red appearance in the glass. It had a bouquet that was
flowery with some light cherries. Smooth on the palate, continuing with
Nobilo Merlot 2005 cherry flavours.
A wonderful bouquet with hints of violets, cherry and candy. On the palate
Voss Estate Pinot Noir 2002 there was nice acidity and smooth tannins. Cherry and strawberry flavours.
Very aromatic with aromas of mocha and dark cherries. The flavour of
Zuccardi Tempranillo 2001 cherries carried to the palate. Medium tannins and length.
Cremaschi Furlotti Pinot Noir 2002 A wonderful bouquet of violets. It was light bodied with some acidity.
Showed typical bright cirtrus flavour with some tarriness on the bouquet.
Peter Lehman Semillon 2001 The wine had a very smooth mouthfeel with just the right amount of acidity.
Medium straw appearance. The bouquet was of oak and beeswax. Oak and
Morgenhof Chenin Blanc 2003 spice followed on the palate
Deep purple in colour and had wonderful black cherry flavour, with
D'Arenberg Fortified Shiraz 2000 sweetness and some warmth from the alcohol.
Lindauer Brut Sparkling NV Biscuity and citrus aroma and flavours. The bubble was small and elegant.
Lemon in colour. It had a big herbal, gooseberry bouquet. There was high
Sauvignon acidity with gooseberry and citrus flavours. A wonderful bone dry sauv
Waipara Hills Blanc 2006 blanc.
Deep lemon in colour. Petrol, citrus, burnt match, and apple aromas. On the
palate it had a nice round mouthfeel, with an apple and"oaky" flavours. The
oakiness is a characteristic of the semillon grape that evolves over time in
Seleni Semillon 2003 the bottle.
Aromatic with pear, tropical fruit, stone fruit and perfumy aromas. On the
Spy Valley Pinot Gris 2006 palate it had nice fruit and light acidity on the finish.
True to being an aged riesling wine, this one was golden in appearance as
well as the characteristic petrol aroma. There was as well as some apple
aroma. There were flavours of oak, apple, citrus and petrol, and finished
Framingham Riesling 2000 dry.
This is a top tier chardonnay from Matua. This wine had melon, pear, sweet
spices, butter, oak and vanilla aromas. It had a round mouthfeel, with some
Matua Judd Estate Chardonnay 2004 spice, oak and apple flavours, and a long finish.
Very light red appearance. Bouquet was primarily of strawberries and
raspberries, typical of many New Zealand Pinot Noirs. It had a light body,
Waimea Spiny Back Pinot Noir 2006 with strawberry and red cherry flavours.
Medium ruby in appearance, and had smoky and strawberry aromas. On
the palate one enjoyed strawberry and black cherry flavours with some
Mt. Difficulty Pinot Noir 2005 spiciness.
Merlot / Deep ruby in appearance. Bouquet showed cassis, black cherry, plum and
Cabernet mocha. The wine had a round mouthfeel with a sweet finish and smooth
Ngatarawa Glazebrook Sauvignon 2005 tannins. Black cherry and plum flavours
Sauvignon Very aromatic with intentse asparagus, herbal, grassy aromas. The high
Springfield Estate Life From Stone Blanc 2006 acidity made your mouth water. There was ample green apple flavour.
Not a high-acid, full fruited Sauvignon Blanc. More restrained with oaky,
vegetal, honey and pear aromas. Round mouthfeel indicating that at least
Domaine Sauvignon part of the wine had undergone a secondary fermentation. Medium acidity
Fouassier Sancerre Blanc 2006 and a medium to long finish.
Light honey, oak and peach aromas. There were big legs on this wine,
which suggests a high alcohol content, but it was very well balanced with
the fuitiness in the wine. Nice round mouthfeel, with good acidity and red
Raats Original Chenin Blanc 2006 apple flavours. Creaminess from extended lees aging.
Had a wide range of peachy, spicy and flowery notes. The spiciness and
peachiness continued on the palate. It was a lighter bodied Vouvray and
Chateau Gaudrelle Vouvray Chenin Blanc 2005 also had a bit of residual sugar.
 Medium red, bright and clear in the glass, but is starting to show a slight
Merlot / bricking on the trim. A wide range of aromas, including red cherries, spice,
Chateau La Cabernet perfume and cedar. Strong tannins, but were fine. Medium length with red
