CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study While there has been an extensive aim to provide extra-curricular activities for the students of Riverside College, and several student-organized events to cater to students push for fun in school setting, there have always been a number of students who end up ignorant about the said activities. Moreover, some students remain skeptical about these issues considering that there is no desperate attempt to enforce the full student participation in the student activities. Oftentimes, students are asked to pay a certain amount for the school events and only then will the students know that such activities exist or are about to take place. In addition to this, students do not seem to show so much interest in taking part in the activities since monetary values are more important than students going to the event. For instance, you may not attend an event without affecting your attendance or class participation, however to pay the amount asked is a must or you do not get your records cleared. Aside from getting the information from the class treasurer, students are more likely to get information from friends and classmates rather than school officials or from the persons from whom the information are expected to come from. There are as well instances when students are aware of the existence of school events excluding the idea of when it will be held. Considering irregular students who are less likely to stay in school after classes and long vacant hours, these students are more probable to be the least to know about the school events.

With an aim to give solution to this issue, this research paper will investigate on how information dissemination is implied in Riverside College focusing specifically on the BS Psychology department and evaluate on how effective are the methods used to promote student awareness regarding school events. It will be shown that the methods used in providing student awareness on school events do not proficiently reach the whole student population leading to less student involvement in the school events.
