1) Introduction & Properties of Fluid: Scope & application of fluid mechanics, Newtons Law of viscosity, classification of fluids, Newtonian and Non Newtonian fluid, ideal and real fluids, SI system of units, physical properties of fluids density, specific weight, specific volume, relative density, dynamic and kinematics viscosity, compressibility, cohesion, adhesion, surface tension, capillarity, vapor pressure, cavitations. ( 5hrs) 2) Fluid Statics: a) Pressure at a point, PASCALs law, measurements of fluid pressure: Gauge, vacuum and absolute pressure, simple and differential manometers along with manometric equations. b) Hydrostatics pressure on plane and curved surfaces, pressure diagram, pressure on dams, Lock gates and sluice gates. c) Archimedes's principle, Concept of buoyancy, metacenter, determination of Metacentric height by analytical and experimental method, equilibrium of floating bodies. Dimensions of flow axisymmetric flow Classification of f1uid flows, steady, unsteady uniform non-uniform, Laminar, turbulent,concept of vorticity, rotational. ir- rotational flows , path line, streak line, stream line, stream tube b) Continuity Equation on Cartesian coordinates, Velocity Potential, Stream function, flow net. c) Velocity and acceleration of fluid particle, Tangential and Normal acceleration d) Relative Equilibrium: fluid masses subjected to uniform linear and radial acceleration, Free and forced vortex flow, Radial flow. (7hrs) 4) Fluid Dynamics: Forces acting on fluid in motion, Euler's equations of motion in Cartesian coordinates and along stream line. Bernoulli's Equation (or Energy equation) by integration of Euler's equation, Momentum equation, Kinetic and Momentum Correction factors. (6 Hrs) 5) Measurement of Flow: (a) Venturimeter Pitot tube, Orifices, Mouthpieces, and Time or emptying tank through orifices. b) Flow over Notches and weirs. (7hrs) 6 ) Viscous Flow: Relation between shear stress and pressure gradient, steady laminar now through circular pipes, Hagen-Puiseullie's equation Laminar now. Through incline pipes and parallel plates at rest, movement of piston in a dashpot, bearings, Simple coutee flow. (4hrs)

Dimensional Analysis and similarity: Dimensions of various physical Quantities Raleighs methods Buckinghams theorem types of similarities and distortion non distorted models & non dimensional numbers & their significance. (4hrs)

7 ) ( a ) Concept of boundary layer theory : Thickness of Boundary layers, displacement thickness, momentum thickness, drug force due to boundary layer, types of boundary layer, separation of Boundary Layer. SURVEYING I

Tape correction, chain triangulation, offsets, and methods of locating objects. Instruments for setting out right angles cross staff survey, prismatic and surveyors compass. Meridians, true, magnetic and Arbitrary bearings, Designation of bearings, Fore and back bearing, calculations of angles from bearings and bearings from angles. Local attraction and correction of bearings. Magnetic declination, calculation of true bearings. Traverse adjustment, sources of errors. (8 hrs)

2) Leveling: Definitions, construction details of dumpy level, Auto level, Bench Marks, Fundamental lines, Temporary and permanent adjustments, balancing of back sight and fore sight distances, simple and differential leveling, reduction of levels, classification of leveling profile leveling, reciprocal leveling, check leveling, plotting of profiles, leveling difficulties, errors and precision in leveling, effect of curvature and refraction, contouring, characteristic of contour lines and their use, methods of contouring ,interpolation of contours. (8 hrs)

3) Plane table survey: Introduction, Accessories used in plane table survey, adjustments of plane table,methods of plane tabling and their suitability, two point and three point problems and their solution (2 hrs) 4) Theodolite: Construction, types transit, Non- transit, Vernier and micro optic theodolite, Temporary and permanent adjustments, measurements of horizontal angles by various methods, measurements of direct and deflection angles, measurements of magnetic bearings of a line, measurements of vertical angle, other uses of Theodolite. Traversing with theodolite- direct observations of angles and bearings. Checks in closed traverse, calculations of bearings from angles, traverse computations, balancing the traverse, Gales traverse table, and computations of area of a closed traverse by different methods, sources of errors. Permissible errors and degree of accuracy. Omitted measurement. (8 hrs)

5) Trigonometrical Leveling: Indirect leveling, leveling on steep ground, Single plane and double plane methods, curvature and refraction, Axis signal correction, difference of elevation of two station by single and reciprocal observation. (6 Hrs)

6) Tachometric surveying: introduction, instruments, methods of tachometry, principle of stadia method, determination of tachometric constants, Anallatic lens, horizontal and inclined sights, vertical and normal staff, Beaman Stadia Arc, Auto reduction tachometer, Tachometric contouring, errors. (4 hrs)

7) Computation of area and earth work: Planimeter theory and use, area of cross sections for level, two level, three level, side hill two level and multilevel section, prismoidal and trapezoidal formula for volume calculations, prismoidal correction, volume of cut and fills- road, canal, railway and reservoirs, haulage and lifts, mass diagrams for economic grade line. (4 hrs) Practical Examination :The practical examination shall consists of performing an exercises based on the practical work done during the course. The record of the exercises submitted by the candidate and viva vove on the syllabus. The assessment will be based on 1) Performing an exercise 2) Record of exercise submitted by the candidate. 3) Viva vace on the syllabus. Minimum nine exercise should be conducted during the course and record (journal ) for the same shall be submitted.
