Course Outline Title Code Credit Hours Probability and Statistics MT-205 3) Theory/week: Weight Contact Hours Lectures: Duration None To provide the students with the knowledge of elementary statistical methods (univariate and bivariate) and prepare them to be able to use statistics for summarizing, reducing and perform exploratory data analysis. To make students aware of the conditions underlying the applicability of the theoretical models that they use for statistical analysis. To make the students able to discuss the validity and the limits of each model, as well as the respective compatibility with the nature and meaning of the data presented for analysis. To enable students to participate actively in the discussion and interpretation of the results obtained. To provide the students with the background knowledge on statistical methods required by other disciplines taught later in the course, as a basis for understanding. To provide the students awareness of the difference between cause-effect relationships and statistical associations between variables. Students should understand that statistical analysis enable to limit, to reduce or control the uncertainty but, on its own, cannot prove anything. This course intends to introduce the student with the knowledge of Statistics required to help them in their research work, quality assurance and project management activities
