FARM SYSTEM
2010 TOP DRAFT PICK

HAYDEN SIMPSON
The Cubs didnt get a chance to see their top
2010 pick in professional action this season.
Right-handed pitcher Simpson, the No. 16 overall pick in the draft,
had a bout of
mononucleosis
shortly after he
signed with the team,
and the organization
shut him down for
the season. The 6'0",
175-pounder out of
Division II Southern
Arkansas University
has an unorthodox
delivery, a la Giants star hurler Tim Lincecum.
Simpson was 352 in three seasons with
Southern Arkansas with a 2.39 ERA and 323
strikeouts in 271 innings. The Cubs arent planning to rush him. Before he developed mono,
they were concerned with his college workload
on the hill and were going to limit his innings in
2010 anyway. So they will get a good look at
him in 2011.
