Family Illness Trajectory Activity and Applying Attitudes to Public Health 1. Divide yourself into groups of 7 or 8.

No more than 8 per group will be accepted. 2. You are to create a mini-movie/movie clip that should not exceed 15 minutes (with a minimum of 5 minutes). 3. You can choose any of the following scenarios: (you can do so by drawing of lots) a. Daughter is pregnant, unwanted (teenage pregnancy) feature: what is the typical reaction of the parents? Of the pregnant daughter? Daughter comes to the health care provider seeking for advice, what would you give as an advice? (You may even toy with the idea of the daughter wanting an abortion). b. Mother has breast cancer, is the only breadwinner of the family; solo parent with children feature: how will the children react to the mother s condition? Mother comes to health care provider for advice, what would you give as an advice? (Breast Cancer is Stage 2) c. Husband and wife have been married for 7 years and still could not conceive. Feature: typical behaviour of husband towards wife and vice versa. Couple seeks advice from family doctor, what advice would you give? d. Father (OFW) dies suddenly due to a work-related accident. Wife and kids back home were informed about the tragic incident. Feature: what is the typical reaction of the family? As a health care provider, what advice can you give? e. Father finds out he has Pulmonary Tubeculosis. Asks help from family doctor for treatment and on how his family could help him fight the disease and the stigma that goes along with it. What would you do as health care provider? f. Male patient finds out that he has HIV. Comes to the family physician to ask help how he can tell his folks that he has HIV, especially his so called lover. Male is the only child of an affluent family. What advice can you give to the patient and eventually to the patient s family? 4. Your mini-film must show the trajectory of the illness, the reactions of the key actors and the role the physician must play in the various stages of the illness. Remember

that each

scenario has a different trajectory of the illness. You must be able to display this
pattern of trajectory in your mini-film. 6. Your mini-film must be in English however, should you need to speak in Hiligaynon or Filipino or any other language besides English, a subtitle must be used and the subtitle must be in

English.

7. Edit your mini-film in such a way that it can be used a case study for future medical students. Pose questions (just like the sample cases in the powerpoint presentation above) and try to illicit reflections from the viewer 8. You can employ other people as actors. You need not be expensive in your production. 9. Deadline of the mini-movie is on February 25, 2012 11:59 pm. You will be graded according to the following scoring system: a. Ability to present Concepts on Family Illness Trajectory . 30 points b. Production value (Editing/Storyline/Acting) 20 points c. Ability to present Key Role of Family Physician in given scenarios . 20 points d. Relevance of Reflection/Guide questions formulated in the film .. 20 points e. Appeal to the viewer/audience 10 points (see No. 12 for more details) f. Total 100 points 10. Your final output must contain: Title of the Movie, Credits (names of actors and crew) and acknowledgement (if you used unoriginal music or snippets from other movies). They are included in the 10-minute run of the mini-movie 11. Upload your final output on or before February 25, 2012 via youtube or any other website (except facebook) and then email the link to your uploaded video at docbienmd@yahoo.com on or before 5pm of February 25, 2012. Be conscious therefore of your file size when you do your post-production. Make sure that your youtube video is embeddable . 12. Your outputs will then be posted in a blog where audiences will be asked to vote which minimovie appealed to them the most. Votes will be counted and results will be ranked. Corresponding points (for the appeal to the viewer/audience ..10points) will be given to the group according to their rank. (e.g. rank 1 --- 10 points, rank 2 ---- 9 points, rank 3 ---- 8 points, rank 4 ----- 7 points, rank 5 ---- 6 points, the rest ---- 5 points) 13. You can use any genre of your liking (drama, action, horror, fantasy, comedy, musical, documentary, etc.) for as long as you can portray your chosen scenario clearly. Excessive use of profane language or indecent scenes will not be tolerated and will be grounds for corresponding sanctions. 14. Use your time wisely.
