Introduction of University

YZU History
In 1989, Yuan Ze University was established by Mr. Y.Z Hsu, the founder of the Far Eastern Group. Since the government has patented for the establishment of private schools, Yuan Ze College of Engineering is the first one to be allowed to open enrollment. In 1997, Yuan Ze college of Engineering was formally upgraded by the Ministry of Education to the status of a full university known as Yuan Ze University. Moreover, Yuan Ze University was adorned for National Quality Award in 2003. Yuan Ze University is not only the best school in Taiwan, but also it is the only one university which won National Quality Award gloriously. YZU is located in the city area of Taoyuan County, only 20 minutes away from the Taoyuan International Airport and less than an hour away from Taipei city, the capital of Taiwan. YZU is easily reachable from all corners of both Taoyuan county and Taipei city; therefore, all the students are able to enjoy the convenient environment surrounding campus.

Campus Life at YZU

Dormitory The male dormitory is an eight-story building in the campus. There are 241 rooms which can house 964 residents. Each room is equipped with network. The female dormitory, a ten-story building in the campus, provides 184 rooms for 736 residents. Among them, there are 3 rooms on its first floor designed and retained for disabled students. In addition, it also provides apartment-style housing for 269 graduate students next to the University. In addition, our Far Eastern dormitory can house 138 male residents. Housing Costs All foreign students will be provided with on-campus dormitory-style housing. For graduate students, a single or double room costs approximately NT$12,600~ NT$15,600 (i.e. approximately US$394~ US$488) per semester per student. While for undergraduate students, each room accommodates four people and costs about NT$ 9,200 approximately US$288 semester per student. per Both living expenses do not include utility bills such as electricity, hydro and gas bills. Student Activities YZU has over 80 student clubs and associations. The variety of clubs and associations are generally covered with six major areas: academic, alumnus, social, music, recreation, and athletic. All clubs and associations are established and organized to cultivate students sense of service, as well as to enhance students social and professional growth. Therefore, YZU students are encouraged to participate in club activities to enrich their campus life.

Physical Sports For the student physical training and exercise, we have multi-purpose gymnasium for various indoor sports (e.g. basketball, volleyball, badminton, and tennis) and activities (e.g. Taekwondo and Judo). We also have outdoor basketball court, volleyball court (equipped with night lighting), tennis court, track & field, football court, softball field, wooden ball court, skating rink and rock climbing court. Library The YZU library, encompassing a considerable area of 4,500 square meters, features various collections exceeding 250,000 volumes. With this broad space, the library features 800 reading seats, spread across the archives, media center, digital learning area integrated with CD-ROM look up and multimedia audio visual features, A/V conference room, discussion room and so on.

Introduction of Program
Program Objectives
To help allied countries cultivate professionals in the fields of Advanced Manufacturing System and High-Tech Management, and to elaborate the cooperation and strength the relationship between Taiwan and these allies. To strengthen students theoretical knowledge and practical training in Factory Management and Commercial Services. To foster students in developing their expertise in all kinds of business administration skills and strengthening their global competitiveness.

Program Overview
Industrial Engineering and Management (IE&M) concerns on applying diverse engineering principles and management techniques to the design, improvement and maintenance of a high level of productivity for both manufacturing and service industries. The current development of IE&M further emphasizes on the integration of computer, information, and state-of-the-art technologies to operate complex systems in the requirements of quick-response and diverse environments. Industrial engineers require broad knowledge and skills in both engineering and management including mathematics, statistics, computer science and social science. Adopting the market-driven strategy, the Mater Program of IE&M at Yuan Ze University emphasizes the courses and the researches in the following areas: Manufacturing System In the area of manufacturing industry, the program basically concentrates on process rationalization and automation systems. In addition, the on-line monitoring and automated control of Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) and Printed Circuit Board (PCB) process is a new area for the industry-oriented research of the department.

The major program courses include 6 Process Management, Semiconductor Manufacturing Processes, CAD/CAM, Automatic Visual Inspection, Computer Integrated Manufacturing, 3D Visual Simulation and Virtual Reality, etc. The research direction is to apply industrial engineering techniques in high-tech industries so as to improve the manufacturing process and ultimately to achieve the goals of quality, cost, delivery, and throughput. Service Systems In the area of service industry, the Department mainly focuses on the development of information technologies to support government, hospital, e-business, mobile commerce, and global and local logistics enterprises. Recent research works focus on Enterprise Resource Planning, Supply Chain Management (SCM), multi-site inventory control & distribution management, TQM development, and quick response system. The major program courses include Design of Service Industries, Performance Measure of Service Industries, Logistics and Distribution, Data Mining, Management Information Systems, e-Commerce, Global Logistics, etc. The research objective of this field is to apply industrial engineering techniques into local and global service industries so as to improve the operation process of enterprises, and eventually achieve full utilization of knowledge management. Supply Chain Management This program prepares the students for the fundamentals of the strategic planning, design and operation of supply chain system, integrated logistics management and performance evaluation of logistics management. The related topics, such as logistic industry, distribution center and global logistic management will also be addressed. Through the lectures and case studies, the students are given new insight into the theory and practice of logistics management so that they are expected to be successful in their career of developing supply chain strategies and executing operations management and analysis.

Program Plan and Courses

This program normally takes students two years to earn the Master of Science degree from the Graduate Institute of Industrial Engineering and Management, totaling 30 credits including 6 credits for thesis.
