New Water Rates Effective July 1

The last water/sewer rate increase under the four-year rate package that went into effect in 2008 will show up on your July and August bills, depending on when the bill is mailed. The 12 percent rate increase will mean that the average water/sewer bill (for a family of four using 6,000 gallons per month) will be $150.72. The rate increases have helped fund the federally mandated Clean Water Atlanta Program to overhaul the Citys sewer system. Work on the first of two Consent Decrees was completed in 2007. The City has requested an extension of the scheduled completion date for the second Consent Decree. Work done under the Clean Water Atlanta Program has significantly reduced pollution in the Chattahoochee River.

Important Numbers to Remember

Schedule a Rain Barrel Workshop

DWM offers rain barrel workshops for groups of 10 or more. For a donation of $25, which covers equipment costs, you will construct your own rain barrel. All materials and tools are provided. Rainwater is excellent for home gardens, lawns, cleaning garden tools and other non-potable outdoor water needs. Rain barrels also assist in reducing the amount of stormwater entering the Citys storm drain system. To schedule a rain barrel workshop for your group, contact Yolanda Boazman, 404-546-1262 or ydboazman@ atlantaga.gov.

AFR Recalls Smoke Alarms

The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department is recalling photoelectric smoke alarms previously distributed through the Atlanta Smoke Alarm Program. The smoke alarm being recalled can be identified by a silver UL label affixed to the back of the unit, as well as three sets of vents on the front. Residents who have or suspect they have (photo below) this alarm are encouraged to call the Atlanta Smoke Alarm Recall Hotline at 404-546-2733 or email smokealarm@atlantaga.gov to schedule an inspection and replacement at no cost.

New Garbage Schedule

The Department of Public Works will begin collecting trash, recycling and yard waste under a quadrant-based system beginning the week of August 1. The new system will help the City concentrate efforts and reduce carbon emissions.
