In the UK Shocking new statistics New figures by the Yorkshire and Humber Public Health Observatory reveal that more than one in ten (11.6 per cent) deaths among 20 to 79-year-olds in England can be attributed to diabetes. If current trends continue, one in eight (12.2 per cent) deaths among 20 to 79-year-olds will be attributable to the condition by 2010. This work is based on data that shows adults under 80 with diabetes are around twice as likely to die as those without the condition

Radius Anti-Ageing FREE REPORT and women with diabetes have a greater increased risk of death compared to their male counterparts. The UK is seeing an explosion of diabetes linked to growing obesity rates, experts are warning. From 1997 to 2003 there was a 74% rise in new cases of diabetes. And by 2005, more than 4% of the population was classed as having diabetes - nearly double the rate of 10 years earlier. The bulk of cases are type 2 diabetes -which is linked to being overweight or obese - the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health reports. This research is a sad indictment of the current state of the UK's health Douglas Smallwood, chief executive of Diabetes UK 'Diabetes makes me cry' The findings suggest that rates of diabetes are increasing at a faster rate in the UK than they are in the US, where prevalence of the disease is already one of the highest in the world. Of more than 42,642 people who were newly diagnosed with the disease between 1996 and 2005, just over 1,250 had the "insulin-dependent" type 1 diabetes, and more than 41,000 had later-onset type 2 disease, which is linked to lifestyle. While the numbers of new cases of type 1 diabetes remained fairly constant over the decade, the numbers of new cases of type 2 diabetes did not. These shot up from 2.60 to 4.31 cases per 1,000 patient years, equivalent to an increase of 69% over the decade. The researchers from Spain and Sweden who analysed the data from almost five million medical records say the trends are not due to increased screening or the UK's ageing population, but from rising obesity rates. 'Time bomb' Over the course of the study, the proportion of patients newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes who were obese increased by a fifth. The researchers said: "Our results suggest that, although the incidence of diabetes remains lower in the UK than in the USA or Canada, it appears to be increasing at a faster pace." Tam Fry of the National Obesity Forum said projections suggested the worst was yet to come: "Rates of obesity and diabetes will continue to rise unless we do something urgently."

Radius Anti-Ageing FREE REPORT Douglas Smallwood, chief executive of Diabetes UK, said: "This research is a sad indictment of the current state of the UK's health. Sadly, the statistics are not surprising as we know that the soaring rates of type 2 diabetes, are strongly linked to the country's expanding waistline. "Research shows that losing weight can reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 58%. It is imperative that we raise awareness of the importance of eating a healthy, balanced diet and doing at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day if we want to make any headway in defusing the diabetes time bomb." Professor Alan Maryon-Davis, president of the UK Faculty of Public Health, said: "Early detection and treatment are crucial. We must do whatever we can to find the half-million people who don't know they've got it." Rates of obesity and diabetes will continue to rise unless we do something urgently Tam Fry of the National Obesity Forum There are currently over 2.5 million people with diabetes in the UK and there are more than half a million people with diabetes who have the condition and don't know it. Type 2 diabetes usually appears in people over the age of 40, however, recently, more children are being diagnosed with the condition, some as young as seven. Although obesity is a risk factor, not all people with type 2 diabetes are overweight. According to Diabetes UK, statistics show that over 80% of people diagnosed with type 2 diabetes are overweight. The NHS is spending 1m an hour - 10% of its yearly budget - treating diabetes and its complications, according to the charity. A Department of Health spokesperson said the rise in recorded diabetes cases was partly due to improvements in diagnosis, along with rising rates of obesity and an ageing population. As a result, more people were getting the support, advice and treatment required to prevent or delay complications. "We are committed to working with the NHS to help prevent people from developing diabetes," the spokesperson added. Shadow Health Minister Anne Milton said: "We need to see proactive policies which look to reduce obesity rather than policies that simply treat the effects of it."

Radius Anti-Ageing FREE REPORT Imagine planting a seed in the ground and then waiting 10 years for the young tree to grow and mature enough to produce fruit. If on the fifth year you change the tree's environment or the care of the young tree then it may postpone the day in which it produces fruit. Change the environment enough and it may never produce fruit. The same is true of type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes takes about 10 years to develop from the time insulin resistance first begins until the day the blood sugar levels actually climb above normal for the first time. If in the fifth year, or earlier, it is identified that the person has become insulin resistant (The amount of insulin being produced by the pancreas can be measured and if elevated above normal levels indicates insulin resistance) then steps can be taken to reduce or eliminate the insulin resistance. By doing so this may stop the progression that ultimately leads to diabetes. I would like to suggest that when a doctor has a patient that is at risk for type 2 diabetes perhaps by meeting certain criteria (family history, being overweight, sedentary, metabolic syndrome, etc.) that blood work be done, such as a C-peptide test, that would inform the doctor as to how much insulin the patient's pancreas is producing. An over production of insulin is called hyperinsulinemia and is a good indication that there is insulin resistance. If there is an overproduction of insulin then it would obviously be appropriate for the doctor to discuss the findings with the patient and explain the extreme need to make some lifestyle changes in hopes of averting the development of type 2 diabetes. A key point here that needs to be emphasized is that to avoid developing type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance needs to be identified and reduced, or eliminated before a sufficient number of the insulin producing cells in the pancreas stop working. By doing this, type 2 diabetes can often times be prevented, however, once type 2 diabetes has been diagnosed it is not thought to be curable. As I mentioned previously, there are an estimated 57 million people with prediabetes, most of which do not fully grasp the severity of their situation, that they are likely to go on to develop type 2 diabetes, if they do not make some swift and sometimes drastic changes in their lifestyle behaviours. The remainder of the 57 million people do not even realize that they are prediabetes. Granted, there are also those that know they are prediabetes and that they risk developing type 2 diabetes in the near future but choose to do nothing to prevent it. These people are beyond the scope of this article. In summary, with the numbers of people being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes rising faster than ever before, I recommend looking into the feasibility of periodically checking insulin levels in patients at risk for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes that meet certain criteria, such as a family history, being overweight and/or sedentary, been diagnosed as having the metabolic syndrome, or having an elevated lipid profile. With the high costs of treating patients with type 2 diabetes, it would be cost effective, at the least, in my estimation, to routinely check insulin levels in these at-risk individuals

Radius Anti-Ageing FREE REPORT It is a way of eating that includes anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and detoxifying foods. It includes plenty of omega-3 fats and olive oil, soy products, beans, nuts, and seeds. All these foods help prevent and reverse diabetes and insulin resistance. This is the way of eating than turns on all the right gene messages, promotes a healthy metabolism, and prevents aging and age-related diseases like diabetes and heart disease. Here are more specifics. Meal Timing Eat protein for breakfast every day, such as whole omega-3 eggs, a soy protein shake, or nut butters. Eat something every 4 hours to keep your insulin and glucose levels normal. Eat small protein snacks in the morning and afternoon, such as a handful of almonds. Finish eating at least 2 to 3 hours before bed. If you have a snack earlier in the day, you wont be as hungry, even if you eat a little later.
Meal Composition Controlling the glycemic load of your meals is very important. You can do this by combining adequate protein, fats, and whole-food carbohydrates from vegetables, legumes, nuts, seeds, and fruit at every meal or snack. It is most important to avoid eating quickly absorbed carbohydrates alone, as they raise your sugar and insulin levels.
Travel Suggestions Two handfuls of almonds in a zip-lock bag make a useful emergency snack. You can eat them with a piece of fruit. Remember, real food is the best. What to Eat Choose from a variety of the following real, whole foods: Choose organic produce and animal products whenever possible. Eat high-quality protein, such as fish especially fatty, cold-water fish like salmon, sable, small halibut, herring, and sardines and shellfish. Cold-water fish such as salmon, halibut, and sable contain an abundance of beneficial essential fatty acids, omega-3 oils that reduce inflammation. Choose smaller wild Alaskan salmon, sable, and halibut that are low in toxins. Canned wild salmon is a great emergency food. Eat up to eight omega-3 eggs a week. Create meals that are high in low-glycemic legumes such as lentils, chickpeas, and soybeans (try edamame, the Japanese soybeans in a pod, quickly steamed with a little salt, as a snack). These foods slow the release of sugars into the bloodstream, which helps prevent the excess insulin release that can lead to health concerns like obesity, high blood pressure, and heart problems.

Radius Anti-Ageing FREE REPORT Eat a cornucopia of fresh fruits and vegetables teeming with phytonutrients like carotenoids, flavonoids, and polyphenols, which are associated with a lower incidence of nearly all health problems, including obesity and age-related disease. Eat more low-glycemic vegetables, such as asparagus, broccoli, kale, spinach, cabbage, and Brussels sprouts. Berries, cherries, peaches, plums, rhubarb, pears, and apples are optimal fruits. Cantaloupes and other melons, grapes, and kiwifruit are suitable; however, they contain more sugar. You can use organic frozen berries (such as those from Cascadian Farms) in your protein shakes. Focus on anti-inflammatory foods, including wild fish and other sources of omega-3 fats, red and purple berries (these are rich in polyphenols), dark green leafy vegetables, orange sweet potatoes, and nuts. Eat more antioxidant-rich foods, including orange and yellow vegetables, dark green leafy vegetables (kale, collards, spinach, etc.), anthocyanidins (berries, beets, grapes, pomegranate), purple grapes, blueberries, bilberries, cranberries, and cherries. In fact, antioxidants are in all colorful fruits and vegetables. Include detoxifying foods in your diet, such as cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, kale, collards, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, bok choy, Chinese cabbage, and Chinese broccoli), green tea, watercress, dandelion greens, cilantro, artichokes, garlic, citrus peels, pomegranate, and even cocoa. Season your food with herbs such as rosemary, ginger, and turmeric, which are powerful antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, and detoxifiers. Avoid excessive quantities of meat. Eat lean organic or grass-fed animal products, when possible. These include eggs, beef, chicken, pork, lamb, buffalo, and ostrich. There are good brands at Whole Foods and other local health-food stores (also see mail order sources). Garlic and onions contain antioxidants, enhance detoxification, act as antiinflammatories, and help lower cholesterol and blood pressure. A diet high in fiber further helps to stabilize blood sugar by slowing the absorption of carbohydrates and supports a healthy lower bowel and digestive tract. Try to gradually increase fiber to 30 to 50 grams a day and use predominantly soluble or viscous fiber (legumes, nuts, seeds, whole grains, vegetables, and fruit), which slows sugar absorption from the gut. Use extra virgin olive oil, which contains anti-inflammatories and anti-oxidants, as your main cooking oil. Soy Products such as soymilk, soybeans, and tofu are rich in antioxidants that can reduce cancer risk, lower cholesterol, and improve insulin and blood sugar metabolism. Increase your intake of nuts and seeds, including raw walnuts, almonds, macadamia nuts, and pumpkin and flax seeds. And yes chocolate can be healthy, too. Choose only the darkest varieties and eat only 2 to 3 ounces a day. It should contain 70 percent cocoa.
Decrease (or ideally eliminate) your intake of: All processed or junk foods

Radius Anti-Ageing FREE REPORT Foods containing refined white flour and sugar, such as breads, cereals (cornflakes, Frosted Flakes, puffed wheat, and sweetened granola), flour-based pastas, bagels, and pastries All foods containing high-fructose corn syrup All artificial sweeteners (aspartame, Sorbitol, etc.) and caffeine Starchy, high-glycemic cooked vegetables, such as potatoes, corn, and root vegetables such as rutabagas, parsnips, and turnips Processed fruit juices, which are often loaded with sugars (Try juicing your own carrots, celery, and beets, or other fruit and vegetable combinations, instead) Processed canned vegetables (usually very high in sodium) Foods containing hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils (which become trans fatty acids in the bloodstream), such as most crackers, chips, cakes, candies, cookies, doughnuts, and processed cheese Processed oils such as corn, safflower, sunflower, peanut, and canola Red meats (unless organic or grass-fed) and organ meats Large predatory fish and river fish, which contain mercury and other contaminants in unacceptable amounts, including swordfish, tuna, tilefish and shark Dairy substitute unsweetened, gluten free soymilk, almond milk, or hazelnut milk products Alcohol limit it to no more than 3 glasses a week of red wine per week
Balance Blood Sugar with Exercise Exercise is critical for the improvement of insulin sensitivity. It helps reduce central body fat, improving sugar metabolism. Regular exercise will help prevent diabetes, reduce your risk of complications, and even help reverse it. Ideally you should do 30 minutes of walking every day. Walking after dinner is a powerful way to reduce your blood sugar. More vigorous exercise and sustained exercise is often needed to reverse severe insulin resistance or diabetes. Doing sustained aerobic exercise for up to 60 minutes 5 to 6 times a week is often necessary to get diabetes under full control. You want to work at 70 to 85 percent of your target heart rate, which you can find by subtracting your age from 220 and multiplying that number by 0.70 to 0.85. Interval training can be an added benefit to helping improve your metabolism and mitochondrial function. It helps to increase the efficiency calorie burning so that you burn more calories and energy during the time you are NOT exercising. This is described in detail in UltraMetabolism. Strength training also helps maintain and build muscle, which can help also with your overall blood sugar and energy metabolism.

Cinnamon for Diabetes? A Half Teaspoon A Day Could Help Control Cholesterol
Researchers have been investigating a number of powerful natural agents that can help you stabilize your blood sugar, and once again, cinnamon has proven itself as a viable contender in the fight against diabetes, as the study in Diabetic Medicine reveals.(1) One of cinnamon's most impressive health benefits is its ability to improve blood glucose control. For example, just half a teaspoon of cinnamon a day has previously been shown to significantly reduce blood sugar levels, triglycerides, LDL (bad) cholesterol, and total cholesterol levels in people with type 2 diabetes. (2) The more you can make use of natural therapies such as nutrition and exercise, the better your health will be. However, as helpful as supplements like cinnamon can be, they should not be misconstrued as cures. They are not substitutes for proper diet and lifestyle choices. You cannot properly address your diabetes if you still maintain a sedentary lifestyle and poor dietary choices -- cinnamon supplementation or not! How Cinnamon Can Benefit Diabetics Below are five known ways cinnamon can be helpful to your metabolism: 1. Cinnamon can increase your glucose metabolism about 20-fold, which significantly improves blood sugar regulation. (4) 2. Cinnamon has been found to have "insulin-like effects" due to a bioactive compound, qualifying it as a candidate for an insulin substitute. 3. Cinnamon slows the emptying of your stomach to reduce sharp rises in blood sugar following meals, and improves the effectiveness, or sensitivity, of insulin. 4. Cinnamon actually enhances your antioxidant defenses. A study published in 2009 stated, "Polyphenols from cinnamon could be of special interest in people who are overweight with impaired fasting glucose since they might act as both insulin sensitizers and antioxidants." (5) 5. A bioflavonoid found in cinnamon called proanthocyanidin may alter the insulinsignaling activity in your fat cells. Other health benefits of cinnamon include: Supporting digestive function Relieving congestion Relieving pain and stiffness of muscles and joints Radius Anti-ageing, 2011 No part of this report may be reproduced without permission
Radius Anti-Ageing FREE REPORT Reducing inflammation and symptoms of arthritis Helping to prevent urinary tract infections, tooth decay and gum disease Relieving menstrual discomfort Stimulating circulation with blood-thinning compounds Clearly, adding ample amounts of cinnamon to your diet is incredibly safe and inexpensive. Just remember, unless you are adding it to a proper diet -- high in vegetables and extremely low in fructose and grains -- it is unlikely you will experience any benefit whatsoever. Speaking of grains, what about whole grains and diabetes? The Whole Grain Myth The American Diabetes Association recently completed a 20-year longitudinal study (6) examining the connection between magnesium intake and diabetes. They found increased magnesium intake is associated with lower diabetes risk and decreased inflammation. Magnesium is required for the proper functioning of enzymes involved in your glucose metabolism. Some have interpreted this to mean you should eat more grains, since grains tend to be high in magnesium. This is a grave mistake! For example, Reuters (7) makes the statement, "The results may explain in part why consuming whole grains, which are rich in magnesium, is associated with lower diabetes risk." High magnesium intake may be associated with low diabetes risk -- but high grain intake is not! While it is true that you do need a good source of magnesium, grains -- even whole grains -are not a good option, especially if you are diabetic. In fact, grains should be at the top of your list of foods to AVOID, right after fructose and other sugars, if you have issues with your insulin and blood glucose. Why? Because, just like sugar, grains are a primary cause of insulin resistance, which is at the root of diabetes (8). Grains typically lead to fatigue, brain fog, unstable blood sugar, intestinal bloating, increased fat storage, elevated triglycerides, and increased blood pressure. Healthful Sources of Magnesium Magnesium serves many important functions in your body, including reducing your risk of sudden death (9). It's been estimated that up to 80 percent of you are deficient in this
Radius Anti-ageing, 2011 No part of this report may be reproduced without permission
Radius Anti-Ageing FREE REPORT important mineral. If you want to increase the magnesium in your diet, please stay away from grains and opt for healthier sources, such as: Avocados Raw pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds Almonds Green vegetables, such as spinach and Swiss chard Raw broccoli Raw, organic cacao Black beans and navy beans Peas Raw organic cacao might just be the number one source of magnesium out there, and offers a wealth of antioxidants to boot. Just watch out for the sugar content -- read those labels. Other Great Anti-Diabetic Foods It is important to understand that the vast majority of nearly all type 2 diabetics can cure their diabetes without drugs or insulin and by properly using diet and exercise. Aside from cinnamon and magnesium-rich fare, other foods shown to be particularly beneficial for diabetics include: Exercise. This is the key to lowering insulin and leptin resistance. Avoid the mistake of only using cardio. Start using shorter high intensity Peak 8 workouts and strength training which will radically jump start your metabolism Broccoli: Besides being rich in magnesium, broccoli can help reverse the damage diabetes inflicts on your blood vessels. The key is likely a compound called sulforaphane, which protects your blood vessels from cellular damage. (10) Probiotics: Researchers have found that bacterial populations in the gut of diabetics differ from non-diabetics, and that modifying the gut microflora with probiotics and prebiotics can help improve the health of diabetics. Green tea: A compound in green tea (epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG) was found to stabilize blood sugar levels of moderately diabetic mice as well as Avandia, a drug that I believe is risky. (11) Mediterranean-style diet: A diet rich in fresh, organic vegetables and healthful fats (including saturated fats) and high quality proteins, but LOW in grains, can set you out on the right path.

Testimonial: No More Diabetes, Cancer, Glaucoma, High Blood Pressure, TMJ, Excess Weight and Drugs!!!!
My name is Lyn Bayley from Perth Australia. I am 50 years old. My husband put me on your pH Miracle Lifestyle and Diet as my weight loss program had me plateaued at 90 kilos for over a year. I have a lap band and taking near nothing in food. But my weight loss stopped until I got on your diet. Within two weeks I lost 3 kilo or 6.6 lbs. My diabetes is now in remission after a detox period of bronchitis and lots of phlegm and diarreah. I had chronic TMJ and earaches that would debilitate me for days. The only thing I could do to stop them was take powerful pain killers and sleep for days. My migraine headaches have now dissapeared altogether and I feel the best I have for twenty years. I had a fibrous tumor in my ovary. I went to the specialist three weeks later after being on the pH Miracle Lifestyle and Diet and to his utter disbelief absolutely no trace of the tumor!!! IT WAS GONE!!!! The Doctor sat there shaking his head in amazement. My eye specialist said the damage behind my eyes from 20 years of dibetes is gone as well. No more glaucoma!!!! I am pinching myself hoping all this will last!! I have only been doing the pH Miracle Lifestyle and Diet for 10 weeks and every one I know has commentted on my new found disposition!!! Thank you Dr Young so much for your inspirational and dedicated work!!!! I love the Green drinks!!! Also, my husband has lost 15 pound and he NO longer needs his high blood pressure medication. He has stopped ALL medications. His average blood pressure is now 125/65 before it was as high as 150/85 on medication. We are dedicated followers of your every word!!!! Radius Anti-Ageing FREE REPORT the small and large intestine against toxins, while creating the anaerobic conditions that are conducive to the beneficial implantation of bifidobacteria. Administration of the lactic bacteria is being used on a large scale for the prevention or inhibition of uropathogenic bacteria, with studies being conducted on the use of L. rhamnosus in regards to the prevention of recurrent urinary tract infections. Bacillus doderlein has, for decades, been identified or designed as the species of bifidobacterium and lactobacilli that comprise normal vaginal flora. L. rhamnosus and L. acidophilus are among a number of lactobacilli that have been identified in this category. These indigenous vaginal lactic flora inhibit the growth of uropathogens, such as: Candida albicans Escherichia coli Hemophilus vaginalis Trichomonas vaginalis
L. Rhamnous may be considered as one of the more important lactobacilliit has been shown, for example, to have many advantages over L .acidophilus, including: 1. 2. 3. 4. Digestion of a greater number of carbohydrates. More resistance to bile salts, thus insuring its survival during the Process of digestion. Better survival to freeze-drying and a longer shelf life.
According to noted Canadian bacteriologist, Edward Brochu, L rhamnosus exhibits a number of fascinating immunological properties. For example, in animal studies it has been demonstrated to increase the natural killing activity of spleen cells, which may help to prevent tumour formation. It also demonstrated an increased resistance to listeria monocytogenesthe disease causing bacteria associated with encephalitis. Even more laboratory studies have shown L rhamnosus to boost phagocytic activity (i.e., the destruction of foreign invaders and other harmful matter by phagocytes) by three times normal activity. Circulating antibodies have been shown to increase by six to eight times their normal levels after introduction of L. rhamnosus. L. rhamnosus may also help the body resist microbial infections by increasing levels of immunoglobulins and directly activating macrophages. Researcher Brochu, of the Institute of Rosell of Montreal, Canada, concludes one report by saying: l. rahmnosus may be considered as one of the most important lactobacilli, if not the best.. Lactobacillus rhamnosus produces L(+) lactic acid, which is biologically superior toDL lactic acid produced by l. acidophilus. Bifidobacteria Found through out the intestinal tract, including the mouth and vaginal tract of humans, as well as the gastrointestinal tract of animals bifidobacteria constitute a major part of the faecal flora of healthy humans. Bifidobacteria consist of a number of different species, four of the most important being:

From birth these vital bifidobacteria play a crucial role in human health. When a baby is born, the intestines are virtually sterile, free of microorganisms. Immediately, something like a wild west show land grab ensues as friendly and harmful acetic and bacteria alike vie for territory and dominance. Between the fourth and seventh day among breast-fed babies, bifidobacteria normally outdo the rest of the fields. Researchers now realize that one of the chief reasons breast-fed babies get markedly fewer infections than formula-fed babies is that mothers milk tends to promote superior growth of bifidobacteria in the gastrointestinal tract, whereas non-breast milk, infant formulas have little such beneficial effect. These highly beneficial bifidobacteria are the predominant organisms in the stools of breast-fed infants, and account for about 99% of the micro-flora in the large intestine and a lesser amount in the lower part of the small intestine. In adolescents and adults, bifidobacteria should constitute a major part of the large intestines micro-flora. These microorganisms produce high degrees of essential by-products in the intestines, which act as a barrier to the growth of dangerous pathogenic microbes that can cause infection and disease and they can aid in: Production of lactic acid, with small amounts of formic acid from fermentable carbohydrates, which increase and balance the acidity of the large intestine and lower part of the small intestinethereby, inhibiting toxic bacteria and ammonia production from illnesses such as chronic liver disease. Inhibition of bacteria which can alter or convert nitrates in the intestine (derived from food or water) into potentially harmful nitrates. Alleviation or prevention of intestinal disorders following antibiotic therapy. Dietary management of liver conditions. Production of B vitamins and correction of vitamin K deficiency. Self-cleaning of the intestinereduction of intestinal putrefaction and control of enteric infection in infants. Nutrition, nitrogen retention and weight gain in infants. Re-establishment and maintenance of health vaginal flora. Beneficial effects in cases of leukemic patients.
Unfortunately, the levels of beneficial bifidobacteria appear to decline dramatically as the human body ages. Some researchers believe this steep decline is due chiefly to gradual disruptions and changes in the acid/alkaline balance of the bowels, which tend to favour the growth of harmful viral and fungal organisms as well as putrefactive, disease-causing bacteria and disfavour the growth of beneficial bifidobacteria. Drink 4 to 5 litres of alkaline water with 1 to 2 scoops of green powder with pHuriphy Many researchers now believe that declining levels of bifidobacteria in the intestinal tract may actually mark the eventual onset of chronic degenerative disease. These declines brought on by aging make supplementation with beneficial microorganisms all the more important. Furthermore, these vital bifidobacteria may help detoxify the human system and remove numerous harmful substances.

Radius Anti-Ageing FREE REPORT According to David B. Hughes and Dallas G. Hoover of the University of Delaware, bifidobacteria have the ability to eliminate substances which can lead to the development of cancer. Bifidobacteria may also prevent potential toxicity from nitrates and nitrosamines in food and can kill or control E. coli, staphyloccus aureus (causes toxic shock syndrome) and shigella. In addition, they help to recycle oestrogen (a female hormone) which assist in reducing the symptoms of menopause, including osteoporosis. Japanese research has recently shown that these beneficial microorganisms are substantial producers of important B vitamins. the production of these B vitamins is of special importance today, especially where a large number of adult Americans lack needed levels of these nutrients. According to recent medical data, without adequate levels of B vitaminsespecially B-6 and B-12the human body has a difficult time converting high levels of the atherosclerosis-promoting compound homocysteine into harmless cystathionine, which may result in a more rapid onset of hardening of the arteries. Proper levels of these essential B vitamins may help as a preventative to arteriosclerosis. It is also of vital necessity to maintain adequate levels of B-12 in order to sustain peak mental agility and physical vigour as we age. Many of the problems associated with agingmental fatigue, depression, low energy levels, upper respiratory problems, and morehave been linked to decreasing levels of B-12. Some researchers suggest that supplementing the body with a healthy population of bifidobacteria may be extremely helpful in maintaining adequate levels of these important health-enhancing and disease preventing B vitamins. Bifidobacteria produce favourable L(+) lactic acid. Lactobacillus Acidophilus Well documented and established as a normal, beneficial inhabitant of the small intestine (lower portion) and large intestineL. acidophilus is found in the intestines, mouth and vagina of humans and in the intestines of animals. L. acidolphilus is the organism most readily utilized in intestinal bacteria therapy, and is among the species of lactobacilli that are recognized as effective agents in the protection of the genitourinary system. The major beneficial functions of L. acidophilus strains include: The promotion of a mildly acid reaction which stimulates peristalsis and a favourable environment for normal metabolism. Production of a type of lactic acid, which has a bacteriostatic affect on many undesirable organisms, including pathogenic candida albicans. Production of natural antibiotic substances that are antagonistic to many toxic enteric organisms. Relief of gastrointestinal discomfort caused by diarrhoea, constipation, flatulence, colitis, pruritis, enteritis and bloating. Adjunct therapy in the relief of thrush, canker sores (herpes lesions), vaginitis, halitosis and acne. Assists in the digestion of nutrients and in the production of lactase, the enzyme that enhances the digestion of milk sugar (lactose). Potential aid in the reduction of undesirable cholesterol levels. General protection against an imbalance of the intestinal micro-flora.

Scientists are now discovering even more amazing qualities possessed by this famous resident microorganism. For example, Dr. Morton Walker, in his recent book, Secret of Long Life, reports that L. acidophilus has now been shown to produce, at least, four powerful anti-microbial compounds, including acidolin, acidolphilin, lactocidin, and bacteriocin. Each of these compounds has demonstrated formidable neutralizing effects against serious disease-causing microbes such as: campylobacter listeria staphylococci and a long list of others
Moreover, Eileen Hilton, and infectious disease specialist at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York, has recently demonstrated the phenomenal disease-preventing effects of this amazing beneficial microorganism on women who had previously suffered with chronic vaginal yeast infections. Ongoing research being conducted by the University of Nebraska and reported by renowned probiotic expert Dr. Khem Shahani, Professor, Department of Food Science and Technology, has shown that the powerful DDS-1 strain of L. acidophilus, known as the Cadillac strain, is not only able to reduce cholesterol levels, but is also able to inhibit the growth and toxin-producing capabilities of 23 known disease-causing pathogens, as well as reduce tumour growth and effectively neutralize or inhibit carcinogenic substances in laboratory studies. Additionally, according to Professor Shahani, Selected and specially grown strains of L. acidolphilus have shown both antifungal and antiviral activity. Consequentlyacidolphilus can retard the proliferation of vaginitis, as well as flu or herpes. Lactobacillus acidophilus produces DL-Lactic acid. Streptococcus Thermophilis Streptococcus thermophilis, a bacteria found in yogurt, (unpasteurised) is a transient microorganism which also produces a number of antibiotic-like substances as part of its metabolic process, aiding the body in its ongoing fight against disease-causing microbes. Perhaps more importantly, S. thermophilus also helps to suppress tumour development and growth in laboratory studies. Moreover, S. thermophilus produces substantial quantities of lactase, the enzyme that aids in the digestion of milk sugars, which may provide an effective remedy against lactose intolerance (a condition affecting nearly twothirds of the worlds population). It has also been used in hospitals as an effective remedy for chronic diarrhoea in infants. Lactobacillus Plantarum L. Plantarum has an unusual ability to rapidly digest protein and liquefy gelatin. Japanese researchers reported in the Journal of Allergy & Clinical Immunology that L. Plantarum has proven useful for the prevention and treatment of food allergy.

It also performs a key function in the regulation of gut inflammation and immunity, according to researcher S. Bengmark, M.D., from Lund University in Lund, Sweden. He further states that L. plantarum has the ability to preserve vital nutrients such as 3 fatty acids for usage by the body. Astronauts returning to earth have a significantly reduced ecoflora in which L. plantarum is totally eliminated, both in saliva and stool, accompanied by increased toxic bacteria. These alterations are attributed to a combination of stress and the fibre-reduced diet consumed by the astronauts, not unlike the diets of many Americans today. In another study from Lund University reported in the medical journal Gastroenterology it was found that L. plantarum decreased overall pathogenic bacteria counts and actually increased Lactobacillus population in the GI tract of animals whose intestinal micro-flora was disrupted through the use of chemotherapy, causing drug induced enterocolitis. The secretion of salivary and GI mucus is often significantly reduced through disease and the use of pharmaceuticals. L. plantarum, which has no difficulty in surviving the acidity of the stomach and the bile-acid content of the small intestine, actually plays an important role in stimulating gut immunity by colonizing and restoring the intestinal mucosa. One of the important roles of this mucosal lining is to prevent the GI tract contentscontaining potentially pathogenic microorganismsfrom leaking into the bloodstream. A study done at the Regional Center for Atherosclerosis Institute, Pomeranian Academy of Medicine in Szezecon, Poland and reported in the journal Atherosclerosis, demonstrated that L. plantarum added to the diets of subjects with moderately elevated cholesterol levels and a decrease of proteins in the blood which cause thrombosis or embolism was beneficial. Lactobacillus salivarius A unique strain of a specialized hypoallergenic super-culture, L. salivarius is a potent and friendly gastrointestinal flora. L . salivarius is normally present in the mouth and digestive tract of humans and hamsters and in the intestinal tract of the hen. Ingestion of L. salivarius helps to increase energy by making food nutrients readily available to the body; undigested proteins and their by-products are broken down, while neutralizing putrefactive pathogens. L. slaivarius aids in maintaining the homestatisis of the digestive tract and colon, and in improving the bodys ecological balance. It has been reported that symptoms of food poisoning have been relieved within 30 to 60 minutes after the ingestion of L. salivarius. L. salivarius is a gram positive, L(+) lactic acid producer. Lactobacillus Casei (Subspecies rhamnosus). A transparent bacteria of the human intestines and mouth. Facultative anaerobic lactobacilli which produces lactic acid as a main product from carbohydrates. May be effective in the treatment of certain intestinal conditions. Lactobacillus Bulgarius

Radius Anti-Ageing FREE REPORT L. bulgarius is a friendly transient, but important bacteria in the human intestinal tract. It is also a bacteria found in yogurt (along with S. thermophilus) and in cheese. It is a facultative anaerobic lactobacillus which produces lactic acid in addition to the beneficial enzyme, lactase, which assists in the digestion of the milk sugar, lactose. Along with other lactic acid producing bacteria, they protect the intestinal tract by producing an acid environment in which there is a strong inhibition of less desirable microorganisms. Its dramatic, anti-viral and immune-boosting powers continue to be verified by current research. Recent studies reported in the International Journal of Immuno-therapy, and conducted by George Halpern, M.D. Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the Department of California, Davis, have shown that supplementation with yogurt containing L. bulgarius, stimulates the human body to produce four times more gamma interferon than normally produced. Some researchers feel this strongly suggests that L bulgarius (the very strain of beneficial microorganisms touted by Professor Metchinikoff at the turn of the century) has the ability to boost the immune system to supernatural levelsthus providing the body a previously unattainable level of protection. Lactobacillus Sporogenes Recent scientific research points to the superiority of L. sporogenes (also known as Bacillus coagulans), a spore forming, non-pathogenic, gram-oxidative, aerobic lactobacillus with a high production rate of L. positive lactic acid. Its unique spore forming ability makes it resistant to heat, gastric acidity, bile, harmful chemicals, radiation and antibiotics. These survival mechanisms enable L. sporogenes to remain viable for long periods of time without refrigerationunlike anaerobic, non-spore forming lactobacilli, such as acidophilus. In addition, the rapid colonization and proliferation of L. sporegenes enables it to control the growth of infectious organisms in the intestines much more rapidly than do the nonspore producing lactobacilli. The hypothesis that, implantation of these non-pathogenic, normal flora, in large numbers, could be an effective and safe method of treating patients with primary hyperlypidemia, was put to the test at the Department of Cardiology, G.B. Pant Hospital, New Delhi, India. A total of 20 patients were enrolled in the pilot clinical trial. The results of this preliminary study showed that at the end of the three month trial period, a highly significant reduction in total LDL cholesterol levels and a small but significant increase in HDL cholesterol levels were recorded. Atherogenic lipid ratios were also decreased following the oral administration of L. sporagenes. No change in serum triglycerides were noted. Spore-forming bacilli influence the activity of enzymes involved in bile deconjugation and in cholesterol synthesis. L. sporogenes helps to decrease intestinal absorption of cholesterol by reducing the amount of bile salts in the gut. It is also supportive therapy for uticaria, eczema, and strophulus infantum and as an important adjunct during and after antibiotic therapy and chemotherapy, as well as being an intestinal aid for: putrefaction autointoxication dyspepsia anorexia
