Rnanubandhana

A compound word derived from Rna 'cosmic debt' and bandhana 'bondage'. It therefore means 'the debt-bondage' and is a term much beloved of Tantriks. It represents an unusual theory of karma. In this concept, action is not automatically considered as karma. Only if you identify with your action, if the ego is involved and gets stuck to the action as it were, is the action counted as karma. All actions, interactions and even karma furthermore are considered to be caused by hangovers of obligations owed from previous lives, or because of rewards due to you. Karma in this point of view is a vast game of tit for tat played out over innumerable lifetimes - and the more you play the more you are obligated to remain on the playing field!

The sensible way out therefore is to realize that your actions are due to some Rna working them out through you, or manifesting their ugly consequences on you because of something you had done in the past. So long as you are equinamous, neither elated at the good that befalls you nor plunged into gloom at the bad that waylays you, you speed up the burning of your karma - the first requirement for enlightenment. To put it another way, Karma is the power of the ego to self-identify with ones actions. The ego does such an apparently destructive thing because it is beneficial for its survival. Death occurs when the ego stops its identification with the physical body, so creating karmas in you is only good survival strategy for the ego. The only way out of the vast mesh of Rnanubandhana is to let all actions occur, not in any passive bovine fashion, but with constant blazing awareness. Accept what is given, give when it is requested of you, and thank God you are getting off lightly! It is admittedly a difficult concept to live up to but it is the only real way forward. Even in the Bhagvad Gita, Krishna explicitly recommends this detachment from karmas. Let there be only actions

Karmas - Karmic Debt - (Rnanubandhana)

In my previous post I had described how a person should perform karma. If all of us would keep our intentions pure, then this world would definitely be a much more beautiful place. Good karmas too are bondages. The fruits of good karmas must be enjoyed by the doer and hence the individual is not free from rebirth. Let me answer questions from my previous posts:1) What is a karmic debt? Answer:- In common man's language, we can understand this as "obligation". This obligation follows you through many births till the time comes for you to return the favor. Let us take example in the first story of my previous post. case a) The family members feel that I helped them and they feel obliged. I start feeling that it was me who helped them out. So in this case,I have developed an obligation on the family members of the accident victim. This is called as Karmic Debt. Now, this "favor of mine" would have to be returned by them in the following births in some way or the other. i.e. to say, that I will be obliged to receive a favor from them too. case b) Now let us consider a case where I start feeling that I was just a medium to help them and not the doer. The family still feels obliged by me. In this case I have not obliged the family members in any way and hence I am not destined to receive any favor from them. However, since the family feels that obligation, they have to help some other person out of his misery. A new Karmic debt is now created between them and the the other person whom they have helped out. This is thus an endless cycle. case c)Now let us consider a case where I feel that I helped the guys out. However, the family feels that it was God who helped them through me. They may thank me for saving the guy. Now since the family does not feel obliged by me and since I feel that I obliged them, I have created a situation wherein I have to be rewarded by an equal measure. In such a case there is a strong possibility that I may have to undergo an accident and some other guy helps me out. You may wonder how is that possible? Why do I have to undergo an accident? The answer is through this accident, I may wipe out a number of bad karmas and at the same time wipe out this positive karma too.

2) How does the second couple not find happiness? i.e. who dispenses justice in this case? Answer:- The Hindus believe in the "Navagrahas" or the nine planets who "determine" our fate. Out of the 9 planets, its "Shani" or Saturn who rewards or punishes us for our actions. Other planets like Rahu or Ketu too can play an important role. I do not know much about horoscopes, so I am not the right guy to make comments on this. However, I know one thing for sure. These planets determine the various incidents that WE CHOSE to enjoy / suffer. These 9 planets have a siddhi - "Prakriti Siddhi". Through this siddhi, the planets change the thought process of people around you. If its time to suffer, the people around you may turn against you. Your bosses, your family members and your friends - all of them. The planets also change your thought process. You become proud and start snobbing people. You may start having some bad habits like boozing, gambling, doing drugs etc. All the emotional turmoil that you may undergo is because of your own Karmas. If its time for you to enjoy the fruits of your actions, then its the opposite. People may praise you for your generosity. They praise you for how much efficient you are at work etc. Money may come to you from various sources. The result - you start looking down on other guys and start developing pride in you. You start snobbing and hurting people around you. The result of these actions.....Your downfall is round the corner. This too is an endless cycle. 3) Do these blessings and curses follow us in next births? How does it translate into events in life? And what about the people whom we meet in this birth? Will we meet them in the next birth too? i.e. would the parent who died come back as an ailing parent to the second couple in some future birth? Do we choose the events of our lives before we take birth? Answer:- When we die, we are taken to the higher worlds where some angels sit with us and discuss all that we did in the previous lifetime(s). Do u know why we take birth? Our soul needs to learn certain lessons. Those lessons can be learnt by the soul only on earth. At the same time, we need to get rid of a lot of karmas. Its only on the earth that we can progress spiritually faster. The risk is that we may fall spiritually if we get influenced by "Maya". Let me take a hypothetical conversation between an angel and a person who has just died:Angel:- Ok dear XYZ, lets review u r life. You faced so many hardships and it wiped out about 80% of your karmas and you (i.e. the soul) have learnt these many lessons. However, in the previous lifetime you have performed these good karmas and these bad karmas and you(r soul) also needs to learn the last lesson. The lesson of selfless love and service. So how do you want to learn them?

Soul (XYZ):- I would like to have this car accident at age of 25. This should wipe out all my past negative karmas in one shot.Let Mr. ABC come and help me in this hour of need. This will nullify the karmic debt that he has with me. At the same time, I will learn that we all need to help each other selflessly. Yes, I will learn the importance of selfless love and service through this accident.I would also like to chose "Healings" as a medium to serve people. Angel:- This is too much for you to bear. Let us break this accident in 2 parts. One at the age of 35 and the other at the age of 60. At age 35 and 60, through a car accident and a paralytic attack, you will learn this lesson. At the same time, Mr.ABC has volunteered to be your wife and she will take care of you at both the times. This way, Mr. ABC who will be Mrs. ABC in the next birth, will repay the karmic debt with you and also you will get to learn this one last lesson that your soul needs to learn. Angel:- Alternatively, you can also choose to meditate and learn the lesson. Mr. Guru (In my case its a German Healer Bruno Groening and 2 other mentors) will come to you. Bruno will take your negative karmas on his shoulder. You will have 2 small hairline fractures at the age of 35 in both the legs at once and Mrs. ABC will show you how much she cares for you. Through meditation you will learn the lesson of selfless love and service. Since all your karmas and karmic debt are burnt, the fractures will give Mrs. ABC a chance to satisfy whatever little karmic residue has been left behind. You will be free from the cycle of birth and death. What do you choose to have ? Soul:- I prefer to have Bruno by my side. Angel:- Fine. You will be born on August 27-1978 at 1:35 AM at a small village near Manipal in Karnataka and these are your planetary positions in the horoscope. You will have Mrs. RRN as your mother who was your sister in one of your previous births. You will get Ms. Vijaya Shastry as your spiritual mentor at the age of 21. You will undergo these many hardships in the following sequence so that it burns off the small innemurable karmas that you did in previous lifetimes. You will also have these wonderful incidents in your life so that it may burn off these good karmas that you did. However, if you meditate regularly, you will be transformed really fast. For this to happen, Bruno will come to you at the age of 31 and guide you to another mentor - Mr.AJ. Eventually you will find a Guru who is alive - Mrs. AM so that she may eventually free you from this cycle of birth and death. Is that fine with you? Soul:- This is perfect. Angel:- I hope that you are aware of the transition times that you would be born in? Soul (XYZ):- Yes. You mean to say about the 2012 transition. Correct?

Angel:- Yes.Ok Mr. XYZ, all the best. Soul (XYZ):- See you soon. THE THREE CASTES IN HINDU PHILOSOPHY Vedanta elaborates the existence of three types of gunas which are typically the predisposed mental tendencies that exists in all beings in various combinations and proportions. Typically all the three gunas are present in every individual in different concentrations however the general disposition of an individual is governed by the domineering force- in other words a person is classified as belonging to one of the three categories based on his or her predominant guna. Their influence on a being is profound and the general characteristic of the person is determined by the relative strength of these gunas. In human beings none of the gunas are in perfect equilibrium. The three gunas are as follows: -Sattva (which accounts for purity, thought, and intelligibility); -Rajas (which indicates activity, passion, the process of change and anything that requires the adrenaline); -Tamas (which accounts for darkness, inertia, or basically a dormant sedated state). Sattva or the satvic guna denotes purity. It is psychologically experienced as pleasure, thinking, clarity, understanding and detachment. When sattva predominates, an individual is characterized by vivacity, illumination, mental clarity, and serenity with a compassionate and an unselfish attitude. Rajas or the rajasic guna stands for dim. It is psychologically experienced as suffering, craving and attachment. When this form of guna dominates the individual is characterized by rigorous activity and refers to a person who is energetic, tense, full of desire, and willful. The third form of guna tamas or the tamasic guna represents darkness. It is psychologically experienced as delusion, depression, ignorance, and dullness. It lacks the energy of the rajas guna and the brightness of the sattva guna. When tamas dominates, the individual is inert and plunged into a state of repose and torpor with insentivity and irresponsibility dominating the individuals character. It is also associated with aimless wandering, lacking the ability to think progressively and logically, affliction with laziness and with cheating tendencies. They are generally gloomy, sluggish, and deluged with greed and frustrations. It is also believed that an extreme version of this tamasic guna drives an individual to be addicted to worldly pleasures that are governed by the primitive limbic system of the brain including the desire to be intoxicated.

In general in successive births sattvic individuals will naturally be born in a prosperous setting with monetary benefits and intellectual and spiritual qualities- which are usually much above mediocre human conditions. rajasic individuals on the other hand will seek expansive powers and are usually characterized by an aggressive and an ambitious nature. Tamasic individuals are reborn in lower environments which are usually in settings below intellectual, spiritual, ethical and moral standards. To be liberated from the three gunas is the ultimate goal and every individual must strive to achieve. In the divine conscious form, all the three gunas are in perfect balance and harmony. No particular guna dominates. When this delicate balance has been disturbed, the process of birth and death commences and depending on the vasanas and other predisposed factors the gunas are present in varying proportions in every individual and as stated earlier the relative strength of the gunas determines the underlying character of the individual. Unless every individual seeks to go back to the equilibrium state where all the three Gunas are in perfect balance, the Atman will be trapped in the cycle of rebirth. Thus it is important to strive to attain that state in order to attain salvation. So what is the characteristic of a person who has reached that state? In Bhagavad Gita Lord Krishna states that- If at the time of death a man prevails in sattva then he enters pure worlds of men of higher knowledge. If the man prevails in rajas then he gets born amongst those attached to action (in the world of matter). By dying in a tamasic state, the individual will be born again amongst the ignorant. Those living in sattva naturally tend to go up the ladder. The predominantly rajasic individuals remain at the middle level which is neither ignorance nor intelligence. Tamasic individuals possess the worst qualities and go down the spiritual ladder. It is important to transcend all these three gunas in order to achieve salvation. A Siddha is a yogi or the enlightened one who has attained salvation. At this stage the Siddha has complete control of all the three gunas and is able to remain unshaken and unconcerned under dire straits and extremely pleasure. Stitha means stable. He is a StithaPragnya which means an ideal human being whose mind has been completely stabilized.
