HaMisparim LaDebarim
The Numbers of the Words
by Craig Wm. Peters

Psalm 84 and the Prophet Enoch (Chanok) a Quite recently, a dear sister wrote an e-mail to me about Enoch. That communiqu was a special blessing because it led me to think even more about the life of Enoch, or as his name would be spoken in Hebrew, Chanok.1 We all know the highly instructive and world famous text about this special prophet: And Chanok walked with Elohim, and he was not, for Elohim took him. Genesis 5:24 Last Shabbat morning,2 I was lying in bed and thinking about Chanok and the Genesis 5:24 Scripture. It was then that the realization came I did not know which Hebrew letters composed the name of this prophet; nor did I know what numerical value would be found when the letters of his name were added. So one of the first things done after getting to the reading table that day was to open the Hebrew text and look up that name; below we see Chanoks name in Hebrew as well as what contribution each letter makes toward its misparim3 value:

84 = (20) K + (6) w + (50) n + (8) x = Kwnx = Chanok Over the years, the Spirit has revealed significant connections between Hebrew word values and the number-location of specific psalms. Since the value for Chanoks name (84) landed in the range of the 150 Tehillim/Psalms, it was only fitting to investigate Psalm 84 and see if there was any connection in that song with the life of this man who had a special history of walking with Elohim. Yet even before turning to the psalm, because it was a line from one of my favorite songs, a Scripture was remembered that would surely relate to Chanoks walk with Elohim. Still, I looked it up to read it all the same, and there it was:

The Ch in this name is pronounced like the ch in loch. 1/21/2012 3 Misparim is the Hebrew word meaning numbers. In honor of hwhythe One who calls Himself the Elohim of the Hebrews (Shemot/Exodus 3:18, 5:3, 7:16, 9:1, 13, 10:3)the word misparim is used instead of the more commonplace phrase gematria, a word of Greek origin.

No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly. Psalm 84:11 Chanok walked with Elohim; he walked uprightly; and so he was granted the Ultimate Reward. I was amazed; all this time having read Psalm 84 and not knowing the Spirit was calling us to remembrance over the significant life of the prophet Chanok. Yet there was still far more in the psalm which the Spirit wished to reveal about what constitutes walking with Elohim, and these additional thoughts now follow. The Highways to Tziyon: A Sojourner in the Earth While studying onward, I wondered what else would be revealed in the Spirit about Chanok and his walk with Elohim. What other profound topics would be seen in this song and would be used to show us what it means to the Most High to have His people walking with Him? Studying this psalm in light of Chanok, it also became evident that the highways to Tziyon (Zion) would be written in the hearts of those who are truly sojourners in the earth. One thing we have to remember is that, in the days of old, highways were not meant to be driven upon, they were largely intended for travel by foot. As a general rule, highways were meant for walking.4 We see this from many Scriptures: And they said, Behold, there is a Feast of hwhy from year to year in Shiloh, which is on the north side of Bethel, toward the sun-rising of the highway that goes up from Bethel to Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah. Judges 21:19 10 And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, standing as a banner of the peoples: the nations shall seek it; and His resting-place shall be splendor. 11 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Sovereign will set His hand again the second time to acquire the remnant of His people which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea. 12 And He shall lift up a banner to the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Yisrael, and gather together the dispersed of Yahudah from the four corners of the earth. 13 And the envy of Ephraim shall depart, and the troublers of Yahudah will be cut off; Ephraim will not envy Yahudah, and Yahudah will not trouble Ephraim:
4

This is not to say camels and the like were avoided; pregnant/nursing women and children were likely carried along via various beast-drawn carts. However, all evidence indicates those who were healthy walked.

14 but they shall fly upon the shoulder of the Philistines towards the west; together shall they spoil the sons of the east; they shall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab, and the children of Ammon shall obey them. 15 And hwhy will utterly destroy the tongue of the Egyptian sea; and with His mighty wind will He shake His hand over the river, and will smite it into seven streams, and make men go over dryshod. 16 And there shall be a highway for the remnant of His people which will be left from Assyria; like as it was to Yisrael in the day when he went up out of the land of Egypt. Isaiah 11:6 In that day there will be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria; and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria; and Egypt shall serve with Assyria. Isaiah 19:23 Yet the Hebrew word for highway, mesilah (hlom)the word used in all of the above textsis the word used in Psalm 84 regarding the highways to Tziyon: 4 Blessed are they that dwell in Your House: They will still/ever be praising You. Selah 5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in You; in whose heart are the highways (mesilah, hlom). 6 Passing through the Valley of Weeping they make it a place of springs; yes, the early rain covers it with blessings.7 They go from strength to strength; every one of them appears before Elohim in Tziyon. Psalm 84:4-7 In the days of old, in Yisrael, when did the people especially prove to the Most High that the highways to Tziyon were in their hearts? Yes, it was at the time of the Festivals! Through the Torah, the Most High had provided the perpetual statute, commanding that three times in the year shall all your males appear before hwhy: Three times in the year, shall each one of your males see the face of hwhy your Elohim, in the place which He shall choose, at the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and at the Feast of Weeks,5 and at the Feast of Booths/Tabernaclesand none shall see the face of hwhy emptyhanded. Deuteronomy 16:16

The Feast of Weeks is what the Christian world today calls Pentecost. Acts 2:1-4 This was one of the three Feasts the apostles of the Lamb were still keeping after the suffering, death, resurrection, and ascension of the Mashiach (Messiah). Acts 20:16

Because the pilgrimage Festivals involved a considerable walk, a sojourn, across Yisrael to Yerushalayim (Jerusalem), keeping the Festivals was an important part of what it meant to be a sojourner in the earth: Hear my prayer, hwhy, and give ear unto my cry; hold not Your peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with You, a sojourner, as were all my fathers. Psalm 39:12 Keeping the Feasts was (and still remains) a vital, indispensable part of seeking hwhy: 5 But unto the place which hwhy your Elohim shall choose out of all your tribes, to put His Name there, even unto His habitation shall you seek, and there shall you come; 6 and there you shall bring your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, and your tithes, and the heaveoffering of your hand, and your vows, and your freewillofferings, and the firstlings of your herd and of your flock: 7 and there you shall eat before hwhy your Elohim, and you shall rejoice in all that you put your hand unto, you and your households, wherein hwhy your Elohim has blessed you. Exodus 12:5-7 Can you imagine someone in America failing to be thankful to the Most High on Thanksgiving Day?6 Yet the perpetual Feasts were designated by hwhy as His Appointed Times of Thanksgiving among His people, and He early warned Yisrael that failure to appear before Him during the Feasts would be regarded as blatant ingratitude; failure to come before the Face of hwhy with authentic, heart-felt thanksgiving during His Feast times would most assuredly result in captivity and bondage: 47 Because you served not hwhy your Elohim with joyfulness, and with gladness of heart, by reason of the abundance of all things; 48 therefore you will serve your enemies that hwhy shall send against you, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in want of all things. And He shall put a yoke of iron upon your neck, until He has destroyed you. 49 hwhy will bring a nation against you from far, from the end of the earth, as the eagle flies; a nation whose tongue you will not understand; 50 a nation of fierce countenance, that shall not regard the person of the old, nor show favor to the young. Deuteronomy 28:47-50
50 to 100 years ago, such a scenario would have been a horrendous and unimaginable thought, yet today, many in America who have shunned the counsel and knowledge of the Most High do fail to offer any form of thanksgiving at any time.

King Hezekiah understood the above text quite well and he applied the warning to Feast-keeping, gratitude, and national greatness; the king made the connection between this Scripture and the fierce wrath/punishment of hwhy that would come upon the nation for disobedience. Hezekiah warned Yisrael that its past failure to serve hwhy by observing Pesach/Passover (and the other Feasts) is what had brought the fierce wrath of the Most High upon the country. And he warned that continued disobedience would bring still more wrath on Yisrael! That fierce wrath was characterized by the horrors of invading armies and long-term captivity. So Hezekiah sent out letters throughout all the Land to enjoin the people of Yisrael to come up, to sojourn to Yerushalayim to keep the Feast.7 And this brings us back to walking with Elohim. Because the pilgrimage Festivals involved a considerable walk, a significant sojourn to Yerushalayim, keeping the Festivals was also an important part of what it meant to walk with Elohim. In relation to keeping the Feasts, we are gratified to see the highways to Tziyon were also written in the heart of the apostle Shaul. Hear what Luke wrote about Shauls determination to be in Yerushalayim, if possible, for the Feast of Weeks: For Shaul had determined to sail past Ephesus, that he might not have to spend time in Asia; for he was hastening, if it were possible for him, to be at Yerushalayim the day of Shavuot (Pentecost). Acts 20:16 Walking in the Spirit, Shaul showed his life was much like Chanok and all the other prophets and faithful ones who hade gone before him; in his heart were the highways to Tziyon. Prayerful study will show that, even after his conversion, this apostle to the Gentiles continued to keep the Feasts of hwhy as an important part of his walk with Elohim. Yet not only did Shaul uphold the law of Festivals,8 he further taught all his Gentile converts to do likewise. For Shaul, keeping the Feasts was an integral part of being an imitator of the Messiah;9 keeping the Feasts was an indispensable part in walking as eSwhy walked:10 Be imitators of me, even as I also am of the Messiah. 1Corinthians 11:1 Our Mashiach and Example also kept the Feasts by going up to Yerushalyiam, by sojourning to the place where hwhy had chosen to make His Name dwell.11 Above

all those who have ever walked on this earth, the highways to Tziyon were in the heart of the Living Word, the Mashiach, the One who was the Torah made flesh. Those who are interested may see the study which proves all the apostles kept, taught, and upheld the Feasts of hwhy. The title of that document is Were the Feasts Abolished by the Messiahs Death?12 That brief study shows the perpetual Feasts of hwhy have never been abolished. And when understood in its context, at least one New Covenant Scriptureused by the general church world to purportedly abolish the Feastsactually proves the first century Gentile converts kept these enduring Festivals of Thanksgiving after their conversion to the True Faith. And in light of the present study, another fitting title for a document on the perpetual validity of the Feasts could be, Are the Highways to Tziyon in Your Heart? True revival begins in the heart and we see that whenever a king or ruler in Yisrael sought to bring authentic revival to the nation, to restore the people of hwhy to a right relationship with Him, the Feasts of hwhy were held forth as an absolutely essential part of truly returning; the Feasts were front and center. We have already mentioned King Hezekiah, but let us read what he said as he proclaimed the spring Feast of Pesach/Passover: 1 And Hezekiah sent to all Yisrael and Yahudah, and wrote letters also to Ephraim and Manasseh, that they should come to the House of hwhy at Yerushalayim, to keep the Passover to hwhy, the Elohim of Yisrael. 2 For the king had taken counsel, and his princes, and all the assembly in Yerushalayim, to keep the Passover in the second month. 3 For they could not keep it at that time, because the priests had not sanctified themselves in sufficient number, neither had the people gathered themselves together to Yerushalayim. 4 And the thing was right in the eyes of the king and of all the assembly. 5 So they established a decree to make proclamation throughout all Yisrael, from Beersheba even to Dan, that they should come to keep the Passover to hwhy, the Elohim of Yisrael, at Yerushalayim: for they had not kept it in great numbers in such sort as it is written. 6 So the posts went with the letters from the king and his princes throughout all Yisrael and Yahudah, and according to the commandment of the king, saying, You children of Yisrael, turn again to hwhy, the Elohim of Abraham, Yitschak, and Yisrael, that He may return to the remnant that are escaped of you out of the hand of the kings of Assyria. 7 And do not be like your fathers, and like your brothers, who trespassed against hwhy, the Elohim

of their fathers, so that He gave them up to desolation, as you see. 8 Now do not be stiffnecked, as your fathers were; but yield yourselves to hwhy, and enter into His sanctuary, which He has set apart for ever, and serve hwhy your Elohim, that His fierce anger may turn away from you. 9 For if you turn again to hwhy, your brethren and your children shall find compassion before them that led them captive, and shall come again into this land: for hwhy your Elohim is gracious and merciful, and will not turn away His face from you, if you return to Him. 2Chronicles 30:1-9 Was it any different with King Yoshiyahu (Josiah)? As he sought and found hwhy, this young ruler learned the truth of the Torah and he proclaimed that the Feast of the Passover should be kept nationwide.13 Likewise, after Yisraels return from the captivity in Babel (Babylon), Nehemiah warned those who were profaning the Shabbat that, if they continued their commerce and merchandizing, they would bring yet more wrath upon Yisrael by violating the Seventh Day: 15 In those days saw I in Yahudah some men treading wine-presses on the Shabbat, and bringing in sheaves, and lading donkeys; as also wine, grapes, and figs, and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Yerushalayim on the Shabbat Day: and I testified in the day wherein they sold victuals.16 There dwelt men of Tyre also therein, who brought in fish, and all manner of wares, and sold on the Shabbat to the children of Yahudah, and in Yerushalayim. 17 Then I contended with the nobles of Yahudah, and said to them, What evil thing is this that you do, and profane the Shabbat Day? 18 Did not your fathers thus, and did not our Elohim bring all this evil upon us, and upon this city? Yet you bring more wrath upon Yisrael by profaning the Shabbat. Nehemiah 13:15-18 So at least two things are true: 1. True, authentic revival cannot exist apart from the people of hwhy returning to the ancient paths of rest14the rest and peace given to those who keep the Feasts of hwhy. 2. We can further say that, apart from such repentance, apart from wholeheartedly returning to hwhy and upholding all His Feast Days, yet more wrath and punishment will come upon those who refuse to obey. This is nothing less than what Hezekiah15 and Jeremiah16 said before the captivity, and this is nothing less

than that which Nehemiah warned after they had returned to the Land from Babel (Babylon). The Ultimate Reward Sometimes, we keenly remember debates over Scripture because our spirits have been so nonplussed over the apparent hardness of others involved in the discussion. Oftentimes, there is something people cannot see because they are simply unwilling to set aside personal opinions. The high-minded are not childlike17 and, being unwilling to divest themselves of preconceived notions18of mere manmade opinionsthey are unable to take the words of Scripture at face value. Consequently, they cannot see the truth of a matter even when it is set before them on the open page. Such was my experience during a debate encountered in the fardistant past. That discussion involved the reward of the righteous. The dear man who formed the opposing party was completely unable to perceive the truth of the matter because he insisted on the following: Any believer is selfish who is serving hwhy for a reward and not serving Him out of love. While his argument seemed/seems superficially correct, and perhaps even laudable, it still gave honor to manmade opinion. It did not fully and accurately reflect the Mind of hwhy over the matter; the view left a gaping deficit because it did not take into account the whole counsel of Elohim.19 It was an erroneous argument because it did not bring a unity of interpretation to all those Scriptures which bear on the matter. Based on a number of very clear Scriptures, I asserted that both things can and should be the case: It is altogether possible to seek a reward in the Kingdom, for hwhy instructs us to do so, and it is altogether possible to do this while serving Him out of absolutely selfless love. Even though the scriptural evidence was provided, the other party continued to insist that such a thing could not be the case. After this debate went on for some 30 45 minutes, it became apparent the discussion was leading to nowhere good and, thankfully, it ended peacefully. It ended peacefully, but still with an unnecessary stalemate. To this day, I remain perplexed by the obstinate hardness of one who refused to accept the clear statements of Scripture. Even so, perhaps it was my inability to give full expression to the missing factor that was a large part

of why neither side could convince the other in the failed meeting of the minds. Understanding the Great Reward, the Ultimate Reward, is the key to dissolving both sides of the discussion into one: A reward for what we have done in this life is certain and that reward can either be good or bad, positive or negative.20 So everyone is serving the Most High for a reward, regardless of whether they even know or acknowledge it, and regardless of whether they even care to acknowledge it. We are taught to seek and to strive for a reward of greatness in the Kingdom that we might bring honor to His Name. And we have been given many examples of those who wholeheartedly sought for such a reward.21 So how can we insist that none of the above is selfish? First of all, it is only those who are actively overcoming who are also empowered to bring salvation into the lives of others. Shaul wrote of this to Timothy: Take heed to yourself and to your teaching. Continue in these things; for in doing this you shall save both yourself and those that hear you. 1Timothy 4:16 Only those who are entering in22 may be used of hwhy to bring the saving knowledge of the Messiah and His Kingdom to those who are perishing. However, in this critical issue of our love for hwhy and our desire for reward, the following consideration is absolutely the matter of greatest, overall importance: If our lives are characterized by seeking for the greatest reward, the Ultimate Reward, all other rewards pale in comparison, including any position of rule, reign, or greatness in the coming Kingdom. For the great truth of this all-important matter is that hwhy Himself is the Ultimate Reward of the righteous! As hwhy said to Abram: Fear not, Abram, I am your shield and your exceeding great reward. Genesis 15:1

Daniel 12:2-3, Romans 2:6-10, Jeremiah 17:10, Psalm 62:12, Isaiah 3:10-11, Matthew 16:27, Revelation 2:23, 22:11-12 21 Psalm 19:7-11 > Matthew 5:3-12, 17-20, 1Corinthians 9:24-27, Philippians 3:7-14, Hebrews 11:24-26, 2Peter 1:10-11 22 The Messiah spoke of those who were entering in. Matthew 23:13, Luke 11:52

David,23 Iyob (Job),24 and Yochanan25 likewise spoke of the Great Reward, of awakening in the Presence of hwhy and beholding His likeness. Thus, it is neither wrong, nor is it selfish, to seek for and love that Reward with all our heart, all our nephesh, all our mind, and all our strength. hwhy spoke of the Levites, that they had no inheritance in the Land because He was their inheritance: And hwhy said to Aharon, You shall have no inheritance in their land, neither shall you have any portion among them: I am your Portion and your Inheritance among the children of Yisrael. Numbers 18:2026 The priests the Levites, all the tribe of Levi, shall have no part nor inheritance with Yisrael: they shall eat the offerings of hwhy made by fire, and His inheritance. 2 Therefore they shall have no inheritance among their brothers: hwhy is their inheritance, as He has said unto them. Deuteronomy 18:1-2 Like the Levites, those who seek first the Kingdom of hwhy and His righteousness will have Him as their portion; He will be the Reward and the Inheritance of those who love His Name: For Elohim will save Tziyon, and build the cities of Yahudah; and they shall abide there, and have it in possession. 36 The seed also of His servants shall inherit it; and they that love His Name shall dwell therein. Psalm 69:35-36 4 I will dwell in Your Tabernacle for ever: I will take refuge in the shadow of Your wings. Selah 5 For You, Elohim, have heard my vows: You have given me the heritage of those that fear Your Name. Psalm 61:4-5 This last text sounds so very similar to the words of the Messiah spoken from the heavens: He that overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My Elohim, and he shall go out from there no more: and I will write upon him the Name of My Elohim, and the name of the city of My Elohim, the New Yerushalayim, which comes down out of heaven from My Elohim, and My own new Name. Because we are to love hwhy and to seek Him with all our hearts, seeking Him is seeking for a Reward and seeking Him is also loving Him.27 And there is nothing wrong or selfish about either of these! We bring up this matter now, in the context of the present study, because we believe Chanok sought and found hwhy. And because Chanok walked with Elohim, that prophet was given the Ultimate Reward: And Chanok walked with Elohim, and he was not, for Elohim took him. Genesis 5:24 Chanok was rewarded with the Presence of hwhy. If the Spirit is writing the highways to Tziyon in your heart,28 your heart and your flesh have already been crying out for the Living Elohim.29 His love is far beyond any love you have ever known, and the Most High longs for your presence also, but it has to be on His terms. Because of the work His Spirit is doing in your life, you long to walk more and more in the ancient paths,30 the paths of the Torah which our Mashiach came to restore. eSwhy was the Repairer of the Breach and the Restorer of the Paths in which to dwell.31 His Fathers Torah has been commanded across a prophesied 1000 generations.32 This is an immense time span that will range across the next 40,000 to 100,000 years. That is why the Feasts of hwhy will all be kept in the Millennium and many millennia beyond!33 So the general arguments we hear today about the Feasts and the Law being abolished simply do not hold up under any amount of humble, prayerful study. Your Messiah, eSwhy, never came to relax the perpetual edicts of the Torah; His only objection was with the vain traditions of those who were supposed to be teaching/upholding the Law and who were failing miserably by nullifying the commandments of the Torah.34 Thus, the Mashiach magnified the Torah, showing us its greatness and holding it forth with great honor, light, and splendor.35
