the Great Wall of China to raise funds for
Macmillan Nurses. Gemma is doing the
walk to help her friend who has cancer.

NestoN Air Cadets and the CAN Group (Community Activities in Neston) have been
given council funding for two projects in the town.
Neston Air Cadets receives a grant of 5,500 toward the costs of a replacement
minibus. the minibus is a vital asset to the organisation. Neston Air Cadets have more
than 30 cadets aged 13 to 17. Without the provision
of a minibus cadets they would be unable to
participate in many of the regular activities organised
for them both during the week and at weekends.
the social enterprise group CAN (Community
Activities in Neston) were awarded 6,282 towards
the purchase of a sNUG kit, specialist portable play
equipment for children up to 11 years. there are
initial plans to set up the equipment for ten sessions
on Neston Market square throughout the coming
year. CAN will manage delivery of the sessions,
evaluate its success and identify further options for the equipments use.
Genuine
the funding is still available for rural community focused projects. to be successful,
organisations need to demonstrate genuine community support for the project and be
clear how the local and Cheshire West and Chester communities will beneft.
Rural Cheshire West and Chester represents approximately 85% of the total area of
the Council, roughly 815 square km. the Rural support Funding Grant was established
to help to support the rural communities to
secure a sustainable future.
Cheshire West and Chester Cllr Ralph
oultram, Chairman of the rural steering group,
said: We are pleased to award the funding to
these two projects. the applications submitted
were well presented and could clearly
demonstrate how delivery will beneft the local
communities.
We hope these successes will encourage
more community groups in the rural Borough
of Cheshire West and Chester to apply for the
next round of grants.
New bids for the grant are welcome. Closing
dates remaining for submissions this fnancial
year are 31st January and 31st March.

never done anything like
this before and see it as a
major challenge. I signed
up to do it last september
and started to do small
walks and now I have
started my training by
going to the gym two or
three times in the week.
My boyfriend is a keen
hiker so he has started

Moel Fammau to get me
used to the hills. I have
just bought my frst pair
of walking boots so I am
breaking them in nicely. I
am fnding the hill walking
a struggle at the moment
but Im assured it will get
easier.

and Neston have been given awards
from the Fred venables Higher education
trust, to help them meet the costs of
higher education.
the trust was set up to celebrate the
unique contribution made to the borough
by the late Fred venables, a councillor for
57 years and council leader for 39 years,
who died in 2006 aged 82.
Councillor venables was passionate
that more young people should have
the chance of studying for a degree,
regardless of their fnancial situation.

recognition of his achievements, his

Neston Riverside Womens Institute have some new promising talent. Not only singers
and poetry readers but, as if by magic, a group of emerging thespians have appeared.
Members made their grand entrance performing the Pantomime old King Cole at
their party evening. Rehearsals had been taking place for months, costumes and
props made and anticipation was high amongst the membership. they were not to be
disappointed; the company of players delighted the spectators with witty jokes and
anecdotes in seasonal pantomime tradition. the evening was brought to a close with
the singing of silent Night by an impromptu choir and everyone
agreed that Christmas had well and truly arrived.
Ness and Little Neston WI
at the January meeting Capt Hugh Daglish spoke about
his time as Commander of the Royal Yacht Britannia in the
1990s. He described the scene of the state banquet in Cape Town harbour,
the gleaming hull, immaculately turned out crew and sparkling brass work.

R.M.S.Titanic Remembered
Local maritime charity Friends of the sea will be hosting a Gala Dinner at the Grange,
thornton Hough on Friday 27th April. Wine and dine to the accompaniment of a string
quartet, while going back in time to 1912 and being part of the scene as the dramatic events
of the sinking of the titanic are re-told by author and historian Ken Pye.
Friends of the sea is a local charity raising funds for those involved in maritime activities. It
is a major sponsor of Chance of a Lifetime venture for young deserving sixth formers, giving
them the opportunity to experience sailing and working collaboratively. It also raises funds for
the sea Cadets, sea scouts, Maritime volunteer services, UK North Blind sailing Association

This young all white male cat came to us as a stray. Can you offer him his ideal
home? He is very friendly and loves attention. An experienced cat owner is
needed as he sometimes gets overexcited and will give you a little nip but
usually it is only in play. Because of this we would not consider homing him with
a family with young children
Bex is about two years old he is neutered, vaccinated and micro chipped.

Stanley is three years old and very friendly. Unfortunately Stanley has the FIV
virus so must be kept as an indoor cat. He will make a very loyal and loving
companion. He follows his fosterer around everywhere and when she sits down
Stanley thinks it is especially so he can sit on her lap. Stanley is the perfect
companion, he is happiest on your knee, or on the newspaper you are trying to
read.

Cats with FIV make ideal indoor companion animals.

Blue is this handsome boy is a bit on the nervous side but then who wouldn't
be after finding himself shut out of his home in the coldest of weather, when
his owner moved out and left him behind.

KITTY: Owner could no longer care for her due to ill health
Kitty needs a new home because her owner has health
problems. Kitty is now in our care with one of our fosterers as
she was having to live in the conservatory and consequently
was spending most of the day without companionship. She is
a bit timid with people she does not know so initially she will
be shy. She is four years old. We are looking for a home for her
