The spirit of curiosity and ingenuity that started years ago
with our first paired spoke prototype continues today. While some
things change, what matters most stays the same. Rolf Prima hand
builds all wheels in Eugene, Oregon with a team that lives cycling.

With countless podium finishes, records broken, race wins and

IronMan victories to our name, we know that the wheel we are
building on any given day could be ridden by a Pro at Kona, a team
in the Classics in Europe, or by any one of us on a rainy winter
commute. This knowledge frames every decision we make as
we design, test and build each wheel. We have always, and will
continue to put function above form, and testing above marketing.

Technology: Paired spokes
Rolf Prima’s spokes meet at the rim in pairs unlike
conventional wheels where the spokes are evenly spaced
around the rim. Traditional tensioned spokes pull not only
inward toward the hub, but also outwardly left or right.
With this conventional lacing, the distance between left
pulling and right pulling spokes is greater and these forces
work against each other to pull low spoke wheels out of
true.
Our patented paired spoke technology neutralizes the left
and right outward pull, allowing us to build with fewer
spokes. Fewer spokes and lighter rims help create more
aerodynamic and lighter wheels.
Technology: the hidden science
Durability, aerodynamics, stiffness, weight and strength
are major factors in wheel selection. In addition to paired
spokes, there are several Rolf Prima patented design
technologies that combine to give Rolf Prima wheel
systems their superior performance.
Differential Flange Diameter™ – Large
non-drive side flange helps transmit drive
torque in the rear wheel across both
hub flanges to increase the number of
torque absorbing spokes.
Dish Reducing Design™ – Increases the
bracing angle of the drive side spokes
to improve stiffness.
Jacketed Nipple Design™ – Moves the
bend of the spoke away from the high
stress areas increasing spoke life.
Self-Aligning Nipple™ – Allows the
nipple to rotate in a ball and socket
configuration to minimize bending in
the spokes and increase spoke life .

a truly light and durable wheel with uniform tensions,
you just can’t match the skill of a wheel builder’s hands.
Every Rolf Prima wheel is carefully hand-built using a
painstaking build process that enables our wheels to run
true longer without the need for constant attention or a
“break-in period.”

How fast you can ride depends on how effective you
and your equipment are in minimizing the resistance
