Higher levels of creative freedom

As the global market leader in lighting, Philips is at the cutting edge of innovation and design. Nowhere is this cutting edge more incisive and inspiring than with LED technology. Thats because the very nature of LEDs offers so much scope for new thinking and new ideas.
LEDs are highly compact, which means higher levels of creative freedom in luminaire design. And since LEDs are electronic devices, they can be precisely controlled with digital intelligence to create the exact lighting effect required for the users needs, preferences or mood. Not surprisingly, all this creative freedom has spawned a new wave of ofce lighting solutions. For example, our DayWave concept, with its graceful curves, adds more than a touch of elegance to any ofce. New concepts such as DaySign and DayZone further extend the possibilities, while the ToBeTouched range of controls brings consumer-style ease of use to the workplace.

Green-light thinking
Our new complete portfolio of LED ofce lighting is modern, stylish and innovative. It has also given the green-light to sustainability and an explicit GO to energy saving.
Our retrot MASTER LED lamps, designed to replace halogen and GLS bulbs, offer energy savings of as much as 80%. Further savings are possible with our LED luminaires, which are up to 50% more energy-efcient than uorescent solutions. Used together with lighting controls, LED-based solutions are setting new standards in watts consumed per square meter. In addition, LEDs eliminate the usage of hazardous substances, such as mercury. Also, the materials used last longer up to three times longer. LEDs typically have an operational lifetime of 50,000 hours, compared with 15,000 hours for uorescent lighting. This means that LED light points installed in a new building can often last the entire lifetime of the ofce creating even more savings in terms of maintenance. Philips new LED luminaire portfolio anticipates future ofce lighting norms green-light thinking all the way!

SchoolVision light for better learning

We all want our children to have the benet of a healthy, stimulating learning environment a classroom where they can feel at ease and concentrate, so they get the most out of every schoolday. At the same time, we know education budgets are under unprecedented strain.
Our new SchoolVision concept offers the ideal solution. This innovative, energy-efcient classroom lighting system improves learning conditions, and thus the learning process, so that teacher and pupils achieve better results.

16

Views and Solutions Spring 2010

How does it work? The teacher selects one of four dedicated classroom scenes Energy, Focus, Calm, Normal via a touchpad. The lighting ambience is tailored to the activity at hand and/ or the time of day. Each lighting scene offers visual comfort, with no shadows or glare. This pioneering solution, with seamless changes in the brightness and warmth of the light, was independently tested by the Universittsklinikum Hamburg-Eppendorf (university clinical center for child and youth psychosomatic research) as part of a year-long scientic experiment in schools across Hamburg, Germany. The results were impressive: Concentration: 45% fewer errors made Reading: 35% more words read Restlessness: 77% decrease Energy-efcient solution As well as improving learning performance, SchoolVision can also ease the schools nancial burden. Daylight sensors adjust the lighting according to the incident sunlight, and presence detectors shut off the lights when the classroom is empty, enabling considerable energy savings.
