Checking for Understanding & Presentation Outline

1. INTRODUCTION - How will I introduce myself and my country?

Example: Welcome to our Governger Hunt! You have reached the ________________. My name is ________ . Today, I hope to teach you something about the government here. I also have the story to share about a very interesting citizen or event in __________________s history. Now you try. Please write in complete sentences. You should have at least 4 sentences. Going ABOVE and BEYOND is using a creative format, different than the example above.

2. Background information: Where in the world is this country located, what time period are you talking about.

Example:

Introduction sentence: First of all, let me give you some important background information. Ancient Civilization explanation: You may have never heard of Ancient Mesopotamia before. Well that would make sense, because it no longer exists. You see, Ancient Mesopotamia was NOT a country, like we have today but a civilization. Ancient civilizations were some of the first groups of people who lived and worked together in a society. For the first time in human history, these civilizations of people studied science, invented many modern day tools, had several cultural practices and even systems of government. Time period: This __________________ civilization existed between the years ____________ and ________________ B.C.E. (or before common era). That was ________ years ago! See here, on this time line. This is 2012, this is when Im talking about. Location: It was located where the countries of __________, ___________, and _______________ are located today. See here (point to map) on the continent of Asia. (4 10 sentences: depends on how much background information your audience will need). Introduction sentence:

What is an Ancient Civilization?

What time period in this place are you studying?

If B.C.E. What does that mean?

How many years ago was this?

What will you say as you show them your timeline?

Where is this place located? What continent? What countries border it?

What will you say as you show them your maps?

3. Audience interaction: Ask your group a question about something that you just taught them.

Example: Could you tell me something youve learned so far? Does anyone remember what continent _____________ is located on?

4. Your countrys government Remember, your job is to teach here. What was the focus of your research? What type of government was this? What does that mean (for someone who hasnt studied governments before? Who was the leader? How much power did he/she have? How could the citizens participate in the government? What is your opinion? Example: When I researched this country, I focused on learning about its government, leaders and citizens. During this time, _________________________ was most like an autocracy. This means it was ruled by 1 person and who was a monarch or king named __________. The king was not elected, but inherited power from his family. The king had all the power over this citizens. This is unlike America, because America is a democracy where its citizens participate in government by voting for their leaders, proposing bills and voting on laws. In this country if your parents were poor, you were poor. And the people who were wealthy had many more privileges and freedoms than those who were not. This system doesnt of government seems good for those who are wealthy or in power, but terrible for those who are poor. When researching this country, specifically what were you looking to learn about?

What did you learn about your places government?

What is the definition of this type of government?

What kind of leader to they have? What was his/her name?
