Gao Bei Dian Wastewater Treatment Plant No.1 Jia Gaobeidian, Caoyang district Beijing 100022, China +86 10 8774 0959 +86 10 8774 0959 Mr. Zheng Zhang Guo (Equipment Manager) http://www.chinasewage.com

Gaobeidian Wastewater Treatment Plant is the biggest and most important plant among the fourteen wastewater treatment plants in the Beijing Municipality Master Plan. The plant occupies an area of 68 hectares and serves a projected population of 2.4 million people. The plant treats more than 1 million m3 of sewage every day, representing approximately 40% of the total sewage in Beijing. The Plant undertakes the task of wastewater treatment for a total catchments area of 9661 hectares, ranging from the city center to the east suburb. The plant has significant contribution to the water pollution control in the urban and east suburb of Beijing. In addition, it also has an important role in cleaning the Tonghui River and the water environment improvement of Hai River.

To adopt international standard management system and offer better service to the society, Gaobeidian WWTP acquired ISO 9002, ISO 14001 and OHSA 18001 certificates. When the plant was constructed, most of the equipment including pumps were of British origin. To keep pace with the rapid development of the city, the plant felt it was necessary to make improvement on the existing pumps and systems. Through various experiments and researches, the user concluded that German-made pumps exceed their expectations in performance and

quality. The plant began to replace some of the existing Progressive Cavity pumps to those of German origin. The original pumps for digested sludge were British-made Rotary Lobe Pumps. In 1998, Boerger Rotary Lobe Pumps were first introduced to the plant and received positive response from the user. However at that time, the plant decided not to make any change due to budget issues. In 2000 upon re-introduction, the first Boerger pump with rubber-coated tips was supplied and commissioned at Gaobeidian WWTP. The user is pleased with the performance of the pump and felt that the cost of the pumps was justifiable by the benefits of Boerger rotary lobe pump: easy to maintain; dry-run capability; low spare parts cost; energy saving and space saving. Till today, there are 10 units of our FL series (FL 518) pumps in operation at Gaobeidian WWTP to replace the aging British Lobe Pumps. Upon gaining positive feedbacks with Boerger Rotary Lobe Pumps from Gaobeidian WWTP, there was an attempt by Boerger Pumps Asia to convince Gaobeidian to replace their existing Progressive Cavity Pumps with Rotary Lobe Pumps. Coming June 2006, Boerger Pumps Asia will be supplying a new batch of rotary lobe pump to Gaobeidian WWTP, but for this time round it is to replace existing Progressive Cavity Pump. The cost of Boerger Rotary Lobe Pumps was justifiable not only in terms of its benefits over the same design of pumps but also over other type of pumps.
