FTB - TBN100 - 10a Thermal Break Connection Plates

Thermal Break Connection Plates TBN100 Farrat TBN100 (formerly referred to as TBN260) thermal break connection plates are high performance, medium strength thermal insulators used between flanged connections of internal and external steelwork and concrete to prevent thermal / cold bridging. Produced from high performance materials they provide a simple, economical and extremely effective solution to meeting Part L of the building requirements by way of reducing heat loss and the risk of internal condensation. Farrat Thermal Breaks are also ideal for hot climate conditions to insulate the cool, air conditioned interior from the hot outside conditions. Pads are supplied according to the customers drawings, cut to size with all holes or slots etc drilled and clearly labelled for easy identification on site.

All loading figures are maximum working (non factored) values and should not be exceeded. *For comparision the thermal conductivity of steel = 54 W/mK

Where higher connection loadings are involved, Farrat also offers a very high load bearing capacity Thermal Break material (TBG300).

Reduce the contact area The best thermal insulator is air so where it is structurally feasible the standard, full area, plate can be modified to reduce the contact area and build in an air gap. Examples of such variants are shown here. All connection designs must be checked and approved by a structural engineer.

Thermal Break Insulation

Thermally insulate the connection bolts In order to reduce the amount of thermal transfer through the bolts Farrat can supply high strength neoprene washers and bushes (AWTB) to thermally isolate the bolt and nut from the structure (M16, M20 & M24 as standard. Other sizes may be available on request).

Farrat also manufacture a wide range of specialist structural acoustic and vibration isolation products such as: Structural Isolation Isomat Acoustic Floating Floors Isomat acoustic strips & pads Structural bearings Structural steelwork isolators Resilient seatings Anti-vibration washers Plant Equipment Isolation A comprehensive range of Anti-vibration solutions Industrial Isolated foundations Precision levelling & anti-vibration mounts

Use stainless steel bolts Stainless steel has a significantly lower thermal conductivity than normal steel (around 16W/m.K as opposed to around 54W/m.K for normal steel) so using stainless steel bolts instead of normal steel bolts will reduce the amount of thermal transfer through the connection. Farrat can supply high strength stainless steel & neoprene washers (AWTB-SS) to isolate the bolts and overcome the effects of bimetallic corrosion.
