Petroleum Engineering Objectives and outcomes

Petroleum engineering is an interdisciplinary program that prepares students primarily for careers in exploration, reservoir, drilling, production, processing and transportation of crude oil and natural gas. A petroleum engineer deals with, and solves problems related to Petroleum Geosystems, which needs to be drilled to locate, examine or tested as it is located in rocks deep in the subsurface and brought to the surface. In light of this, petroleum engineers are capable of

Exploring, characterizing and evaluating subsurface geological formations and hydrocarbon resources to understand Petroleum Geosystems. Designing, drilling, and completing well systems for hydrocarbon reservoirs; Applying reservoir and production engineering knowledge and practices for optimizing hydrocarbon resource development and management of reservoirs; Designing and analyzing systems for producing, injecting, and handling fluids for higher recovery of hydrocarbons Applying economics to these tasks under conditions of risk and uncertainty within the framework of petroleum fiscal system.

Objectives (PEO)
The Petroleum Engineering program prepares graduates to 1. Assimilate scientific and engineering principles in order to understand and address problems related to upstream Petroleum industry ( i.e.to educate an individual to be a Petroleum Engineer) 2. Develop problem solving capability by analyzing and interpreting field data and acquiring necessary skills for developing a methodology for subsurface reservoir 3. Inculcate ability to serve in broad areas of petroleum engineering fields while working in a multidisciplinary
