Metal shell
Metal shell that fits around the connector to provide strain relief and superior EMI shielding

Follow these simple steps to complete a clean and effective field termination Step 1~3: for HDMI during your custom installation.
1) 2) 3) Run the HDMI cable to the length or position you need for your installation Once the length is selected, use the hand tool to cut the HDMI cable Once cut, use the hand tool wire stripper to strip the overall jacket off of the HDMI cable a) Be sure to leave enough room for the next steps leave 2 inches or 50 mm After removing the overall jacket, separate the individual wires a) Find the 4 twisted pairs and peel off the plastic wrapper and the aluminum foil for about 1.5 inch (38 mm) from each set of twisted pairs. b) Fan out the individual wires into 2 groups following the color coding picture seen. c) Try to line up the wires in order as shown and keep the wire crossing to a minimum First work on the top group with 10 wires and find the correct top wire holder distinguished (Fig 1, Page 3) Feed the wires into the holes one by one in the order as shown Once all the wires are through, pull the wires forward against the wire holder until the wire holder can not move any further. Use the hand tool to do a light pre-crimp then trim off the excessive wire from the wire holder.

Follow these simple steps to complete a clean and effective field termination for HDMI during your custom installation. (Continuted. )
8) Next work on the bottom group with 9 wires and find the correct bottom wire holder distinguished (Fig 1, Page 3) Feed the wires into the holes one by one in the order as shown. Once all the wires are through, pull the wires forward against the wire holder until the wire holder can not move any further, Use the hand tool to do a light pre-crimp then trim off the excessive wire from the wire holder as seen. Once all 19 wires are secured in the right place within the wire holders, carefully line up the 10 slots on the top wire holder(Fig 2, Page 3) to the 10 sharp metal pins on the TOP of the connector core, Slightly push the wire holder to pre-engage the pins and be sure that you DONT push all the way in at this point! Repeat the same with the bottom wire holder With the connector core placed correctly between the two wire guides, then use the crimper tool to crimp the two wire holders onto the connector core slowly and securely a) Use a precise parallel motion until bottom holes and the locking tabs click. b) If there is not a hand tool available, this crimp step can also be completed with a portable vise. c) Keep in mind that you can not use pliers because they do not crimp in a parallel motion and could lead to uneven contacts Now take the top metal shell for the connector and slide it over the connector core until the front tip is flush and can lock in place with a click. Now take the bottom metal shell, clip it on to the top metal shell until it clicks in place. Use the hand tool to crimp the metal fingers located at the end of the metal shell a) Crimp them onto the cable jacket securely to form the strain relief. b) This is a very important step - the strain relief must be strong enough to prevent any twisting or pulling motion of the cable Clip the top and bottom ABS shells onto the metal shells for the cosmetic finish a) this step is not required for the cables function. Repeat these steps on the other end of the HDMI cable. Use the handheld tester to make sure all the 19 wires are connected correctly with no open connections or shorts Test the cable with a DVD player and an HDTV a) If a normal, clear picture appears on TV, your termination is successful. Congratulations! b) If the picture is gone or interference is visible,, please choose the optional equalization adaptor with the matching cable length rating or as close as you can get and connect it to the TV end. c) The equalization adaptor would boost the signal and roughly double the usable cable length. d) If you still have problems after using the equalization adaptor inline with the HDMI cable, call your distributor or the HD Kit LLC support line for help.
