PIONEERING CONCERT BRINGS CLASSICAL MUSIC OUT OF THE HALLS AND INTO THE BARNS
Performances by Young, Innovative Ensemble Will Include Composition by Arcade Fires Richard Reed Parry and the World Premiere of Rose Boltons Coming of Sobs Toronto, February 3, 2012// On Saturday February 25th, Music in the Barns will present a groundbreaking concert at Artscape Wychwood Barns by one of the more creative and exciting ensembles to come out of North America. Chamber Music in the Barns begins with the much-anticipated world premiere of Rose Boltons Coming of Sobs. Torontos award-winning composer will also be on hand for a pre-concert lecture where shell discuss life as a Canadian composer in the 21st century. The evening event also includes a performance of Quartet for Heart and Breath composed by Grammy-award winning Richard Reed Parry of Arcade Fire. True to the evenings inventive spirit, the arrangement requires performers to wear stethoscopes throughout the piece. Its Parrys second composition with the device, ensuring musicians play in synch with their breath and heartbeats. The concert will culminate with 19th century romantic composer, Anton Bruckners String Quartet, a rarely performed chamber work. The Music in the Barns Chamber Ensemble - made up of Kristi Helberg, violin (NYC) , John Corban, violin (Montreal), Carol Gimbel, viola (Toronto) Pemi Paull, viola (Montreal), Jean-Christophe Lizotte, cello (Montreal) - has garnered an impressive reputation for their bold mix of traditional and new compositions. Innovative and adventurous, the groups performances showcases classical music in all its forms, ensuring the genre remains relevant and timeless.

About Music in the Barns Music in the Barns explores new avenues in the advancement of classical music. Functioning as performer, presenter, and educator, Music in the Barns aims to promote current and traditional classical music with its events, concerts and educational opportunities. Located in Studio 164 at the Artscape Wychwood Barns, Music in the Barns is an intimate storefront-style studio, with performances in the industrial chic, Covered Street Barn. About Music in the Barns Ensemble Made up of five creative classical musicians who seek to move the concert experience into the 21st century, their cumulative experience includes performances with Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Canadian Opera Company, Kanye West, Mary J Blige, Polaris Prize winner Patrick Watson, and visionary dance troupe La La La Human Steps.
