Principals
We continue to see problems created by employees being allowed to remain on long-term leave without administrative monitoring. It is the responsibility of the school-site administrator to monitor any leave, whether related to Workers Compensation or Illness. For Workers Compensation, you should be in contact with the Claims Adjuster at Sedgwick (866) 247-2287 to keep apprised of the employees status and return date. If you need additional assistance with any particular employee, a current claim or procedure, contact the Office of Risk Management and Insurance Services at one of the following numbers:
LD2, LD4 LD1, LD3 LD7, LD8 LD5, LD6, Adult Ed Workers Compensation Manager 213-241-3967 213-241-3965 213-241-3966 213-241-7641 213-241-3839
For questions regarding the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and other protected leaves, please contact Ana Cabrera at (213) 241-7993. You may also call the FMLA main line at (213) 241-3954. For employees on an Illness leave of longer than twenty (20) days, formal leave of absence papers must be completed. Employees who have not submitted those should not be time-reported after twenty days of absence. The Leave of Absence Packet for Classified Employees can be found on the Personnel Commission web site under the Forms link. Certificated Employees can find Leave of Absence Paperwork under the Forms link on the Human Resources web site.
Last month, the Division of Human Resources sent out lists containing the names of Probationary 2 teachers at your school. As part of the reelection process, the principal/administrator was required to decide either to recommend that the employee be advanced to permanent status or that the employee be non-reelected and released from employment with the District. This process will be repeated in the Spring with Probationary 1 and District Intern teachers. Accordingly, you should be observing their performance regularly and offering written assistance and guidance as needed. . If you are anticipating that a permanent teacher will be receiving a Below Standard evaluation, please contact your Staff Relations Field Director as soon as possible. Be sure to take note of the following deadlines for issuance of final evaluations: Early Start Calendar Deadline: April 26, 2012 Traditional Calendar Deadline: May 17, 2012 Balan012ced/Traditional Calendar Deadline: May 17, 2012 Three-Track (Track A): May 24, 2012 Three-Track (Track B): May 24, 2012 Three-Track (Track C): May 22, 2012 Four-Track (Track A): May 23, 2012 Four-Track (Track B): May 23, 2012 Four-Track (Track C): May 23, 2012 Four-Track (Track D): March 30, 2 *Predicated on the imposition of up to 6 furlough days at the end of the school year Remember that a teacher receiving a Below Standard must have received a mid-year notification. 4. ASSIGNMENT OF CLASSES (MATRIX) (Article IX A) The 2012-2013 Suggested Time Sequence for Staffing is attached. You must assess the percentage of permanent and non-permanent teachers at your site in order to equitably spread permanent and non-permanent teachers across tracks and grade levels. Please
review the timelines appropriate to your school schedule and begin the necessary preparations. (See Attachment 1)
The selection process must be conducted in the Spring semester prior to the preparation of the matrix of classes. If the candidate that the site administrator puts forward for confirmation is not confirmed by a majority vote, the site administrator and chapter chair shall immediately inform the faculty members that the coordinator position is still vacant. If the non-confirmed candidate received 40% - 50% of the votes, that candidate and the other interested candidates may submit statements of interest within 24 hours in a singletrack school or 72 hours in a multi-track school. T he site administrator and chapter chair shall seek to mutually agree upon the coordinator selection from among those candidates who submitted statements of interest. If no agreement is reached mutually, a twomember team from the District/UTLA Dispute Resolution Panel will resolve the issue. Also, all coordinators are elected for two years except if it is the first term of the confirmed coordinator.
If you have any questions about these items, or other contract or discipline issues, please contact Leticia Figueroa, Staff Relations Field Director at (213) 241-2563 or lcerv3@lausd.net, regarding UTLA, or David Palmer, Labor Relations Representative, for Units D, B, F, G and S (clerical staff, paraprofessional and campus supervision employees, and the SAA) at (213) 2416056.
