Elaine Walker, current mayor of the Town of Lovettsville announced Jan. 27 that she will not be vying for the mayoral position in May. Walker, who has served as the towns mayor for the past 20 years and served on town council for 10 years prior to that, has been a staple in the Lovettsville community. In the 2010 election, Walker defeated challenger Bing Lam with 169 to 101 votes. In the 2012 election, Tim Sparbanie who is currently serving on the Lovettsville Town Council, announced his candidacy on Dec. 5 for Lovettsville mayor. Walker, who is currently serving her 11th term as mayor said in a release that she values her association with the county, state and federal officials during her tenure and that its a relationship that she says has been very rewarding and will always be appreciated. It has truly been an honor to have served my town for nearly thirty-two years, first as a member of the town council for more than ten years, then as mayor since 1990, Walker said in a release. I thank everyone who gave me their support during this time, especially my family. It was indeed a long-time commitment, but one that I will always cherish. I will continue to provide assistance whenever possible for the future projects that are planned for Lovettsville. Walker said that her step down from council is no reflection of Sparbanie running, it was just time to step down from this particular position. Walker also said she is more than willing to do any other work within the community. 6
