Program Description
This activity will provide healthcare professionals and other relevant groups in Connecticuts Lower Naugatuck Valley with an overview of the extent of the current prescription medication abuse and diversion problem in their community, and in the United States overall. The activity will focus on adolescents/young adults, and will discuss ways to reduce illegitimate access to prescription medications, while maintaining appropriate use. In addition to the expert faculty in the field of pain management and addiction, the activity will feature live testimonials from young adults who have finished a recovery program for a past addiction to prescription drugs, which started in adolescence. These young adults will discuss their initiation and trajectory of prescription medication and illicit drug abuse, how they were able to obtain the medications, and how their drugs of choice evolved over time.
