Demonstrative Communication By Rondha Showers BCOM/275 Instructor Michael Yensz

Once a human being has arrived on this earth, communication is the largest single factor determining what kinds of relationships he makes with others and what happens to him in the world about him. By Virginia Satir

Communication is the process of transmitting, conveying or sending and accepting or receiving messages (Cheesbro, OConnor, and Rios, 2010). Communication is the reciprocation of ideas, messages, or data, either thru writing, speech, signals, behavior, or kinesics. Communication may be submitted either verbally or nonverbally. Verbal communication can be described as written or spoke and nonverbal communication can include body posture, facial expressions, tone of voice, eye contact, and gestures.

Demonstrative communication involves sending or transmitting and accepting silent messages. Facial expressions are in general commonly used amongst every nonverbal communication. The sad thing about facial expressions they can be perceived as one way but really mean something totally different. As stated by Nayab (2010), it is likely that body language or kinesics as well as facial expressions represent 55% of all communication. A person may catch an impression of a person on thru the action of non verbal gesture. The other person may as well measure the reaction as a positive or negative response and make use of it For example, a car salesman can be trying to sell a car to a young lady he tells her the price of the car and she grabs her chest and takes a deep breath. The fact that the lady grabbed her chest and took that breath the salesman could get the impression that the cost was more than the lady wanted to pay. The salesman could have also been wrong, she could have mean by her actions that thought the car was less then she originally thought. Demonstrative communication emphasizes verbal communication. As an instance, appropriately dressed, a firm handshake and a pleasant conduct may articulate level more or less the class of an individual is on an employment interview. An individual could reckon on this behavior to strengthen the verbal performance (Sutton, 2011). When someone meets a person, each one may mutually sense the character of the person like friendliness of the person not but just uttering hello, other than they had a pleasant smile with each other, conversing in good spirits, and personally. A person may catch a clue on the impression of the other person on him thru the action of non verbal gesture. Demonstrative communication provides perspicuity (Sutton, 2011). The personality of a person is shown by the way the person expose himself to other people. An example the way that is a persons demeanor at work. They can come to work with a sense of self assurance with a nice suit, and a clean appearance. This could make people think this is a person that is ready for the world and knows where and what she needs to do to be successful. Clothing, hairstyles, symbols, tattoos, and paintings are several styles of demonstrative communication. Even though this style of communication may be positive, people must be cautious how they exploit demonstrative communication since it may be vague and may be misunderstood. Appearances, gestures, facial expressions or body language may imply something other than its true meaning. In the business industry there are several things that can perceive as negative. A person walking

into a room with a saggy pair of pants, wrinkled shirt and not firm handshake with tattoos all over their body. This can be communicated that the person may not be as business affiliated or as professional as they should be. This is a not necessarily the truth about the person, but goes along with the saying that a first impression is a lasting impression. A person who is walking with their hands on their hips and a sassy walk can be

perceived as a person that has a sassy attitude and may not be approachable. Actually, this may imply that they are just feeling confident about their new outfit. In some occasion nonverbal communication shall not be only reckon on since there are no regulations pertaining to the uncommon expressions and gestures imply (Sutton, 2011). Demonstrative communication encompasses some degree of distance (Sutton, 2011). As an occasion, waving to somebody say hello or goodbye which the person doing the act is very faraway to be seen may not catch the message. Demonstrative communications as well, do not convey perfectly. Just an occasion, someone who is nodding at the same time as speaking over the phone may not express that he is agreeing with what the other person has said on the other side of the telephone line. Comparable with some other style of communication, demonstrative communication require listening and responding. Time and again a person may gain knowledge more from anothers actuations rather than their words. Looking at couples sometimes is an indicator of a lot. Noticing a woman that is always holding her head down when she is with her boyfriend can mean that he is very controlling. Without her verbally communicating that she is stating that there is a lack of trust somewhere, either with her or him. There are some moments where persons have to listen with their eyes rather than their ears. Actions always speak louder than words its the smallest of gestures that a person can display to show love without ever saying the three words. Demonstrative communication is being expressed in every day activities. The actions maybe in the style of smiling, blowing a kiss, winking an eye a firm handshake are some styles of demonstrative communication. By watching body language looking at facial expressions is a way to almost get what the demonstrator is trying to communicate. But also keep in mind that what is being perceived can be an assumption of what the communicator is really trying to portray.
