Introduction

The following procedures and inspection schedules are provided as a guide only. Inspection intervals and subsequent repair procedures vary & greatly dependent on : Local Climate. System type and frequency of usage. Type resources and equipment. Local resources and equipment. Owner philosophy to acceptable system life cycle. Initial system design.

The following recommendations are focused on providing the maximum life cycle for the system installed. Inspection intervals should be adjusted to suit local conditions and feedback from maintenance personnel.

FRONTAL FRAME INSPECTION PROCEDURE

LOW FRICTION UHMW-PE FACIA PADS:
Item 1 2 3 Inspection Visually inspection facia pad fasteners to see if any are missing. Check Frontal panel for any missing facia pads. Check facia pads for major abrasions & physical damage. Action Replace missing fasteners. Replace facia pads after checking thread condition of the studs. If scar & cut marks extend upto 10 mm of the underside of the pad the pad should be replaced. If pad is usable plane off sharp edges to ensure nothing extends beyond the face of the frontal panel. If the remaining wear is 2 mm above the head of the fasteners replace the facia pad. If any loose check all fasteners and tighten as necessary. Check

4 5

Inspect the areas surrounding the bolt head for wear. Check the tightness of ten facia pad fasteners in various locations on the frontal frame.

PAINT AND STEEL WORK:

Item 6 7 8 9 10 Inspection item Inspect for rust bleed marks. Inspect for rust blisters. Inspect for damage paint work. Inspect for physical damage to steelwork. Remove one facing pad and inspect paintwork underneath. Action Trace to source of bleed and mark rust point. Clearly mark on frame. Clearly mark damaged area. Determine whether damage will effect frontal frame performance and/or repair as required. If paint is deteriorating remove all facia pads to inspect complete area under the facia panels. Check

Notes : Damage paintwork should be treated in accordance with the paint manufacturers instructions.

CHAIN SYSTEM INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Item 11 Inspection item Inspect chain systems for rusting. Action Mild rust may be ignored. If heavily rusted remove rust on a section of the chain and measure the diameter of metal remaining. If the diameter is less than that indicated in Table A, the chain should be replaced. If missing, replace. If damaged replace, if rusted, wire brush threads and tread with rust inhibiting paint. If rust is serious replace pin. If usable metal remaining is less than that in table A, replace shackle. Treat in a similar method as done to shackles. Tighten all chains so that no slack is present. Weight chains should always be tight and adjusted so that the fender system and rubber element does not droop. This may also require the adjustment of the tension chain in concert with the weight chains. Remove rust and treat carefully. Place on regular inspection time table. Check

12 13

Check for missing shackle locking nuts or split pins. Check threads on all shackles pins for rust or physical damage. Check all shackles for wear or corrosion. Inspect chain tensioning devices, if fitted, for corrosion or wear. Check to ensure all chains are firmly tensioned.

14 15 16

17

Inspect the cast-in U anchors for corrosion and/or wear as applicable.

RUBBER ELEMENT INSPECTION PROCEDURE

RUBBER FENDER ELEMENT :
Item 18 Inspection item Inspect for foreign matter on the top of the fender. Action Remove foreign matter with water and a biodegradable organic based cleaner or request cleaner from your Trelleborg representative. DO NOT USE PETROLEUM BASED PRODUTCTS. 19 20 21 Inspect for sea growth on the fender. Inspect the rubber body of the fender element for physical damage, tear or crack. Remove one fender foot bolt and inspect for corrosion. Remove with a bristle or nylon brush and see notes above. Note inspection results and fax representative for further information. to TRELLEBORG Check

If corrosion is apparent remove corrosion from bolt and treat with rust inhibitor or replace bolt. Ensure that a non soluble vegetable grease is applied to the bolt and the ferrule before refitting. If unacceptable deterioration is apparent on one bolt sequentially remove, inspect and treat remaining bolts.

22 23

Remove one fender to frontal frame attachment bolt. Ensure that the fender is sitting symmetrically on the face of the wharf.

See above. If not symmetrical the weight and tension chains will require adjustment.
