Overview
OPOS
Overview
OLE for Retail POS (OPOS) provides an open-device-driver architecture that allows Point-of-Sale (POS) hardware to be easily integrated into POS systems based on the Microsoft Win32 platform. The basis of OPOS is to be a languageneutral, operating system-independent, architectural specification for POS peripheral devices used in the retail environment. The 9700 SAR and WinStation client applications provide OPOS compliancy, supporting many manufacturers and their individual products by handling a variety of peripherals as generic control objects.
With the release of OPOS support for the 9700 WinStation client and Version 4.00 SAR client applications, a number of new hardware platforms are available to 9700 customers. In essence, any hardware platform capable of running Microsoft Windows NT or 2000 should be able to run the 9700 SAR or WinStation clients, and communicate to any OPOS-compliant peripheral device.

Supported OPOS Peripheral Devices
Although many OPOS-compliant peripheral devices should work with the OPOS-compliant 9700 SAR and WinStation clients, 100% conformity cannot be guaranteed due to varying driver implementations by the hardware manufacturer. The following peripheral devices have been certified for conformity with the 9700 SAR and WinStation clients: Device IBM SureMark Printer 4610 Comments This device can print up to 6.5 inches per second, delivering up to 52 lines per second. Available in single-station thermal models, or two-station models with impact slip printing for multipart forms and checks. An ideal solution for retailers who require a quiet, high speed printing solution at an affordable price. Its EZ Load paper loading make it simple to change paper quickly. A cost-effective one-station receipt printer that prints 3.5 lines per second with excellent reliability that make it ideal for PC-POS applications. New emulation capabilities allow it to replace other manufacturers old printers. Fast and compact, the TM-300 series is the standard receipt printer for PC-POS systems. The ability to print red/black makes this an ideal kitchen printer. This versatile scanner can read all types of bar codes. Its small footprint takes up very little counter space. Its reliability and flexibility make it a smart investment that can meet current and future POS scanning requirements.

Configuration Guidelines
Configuration Guidelines
This section provides guidelines for installing and configuring the POS terminal with the 9700 SAR and WinStation client software and OPOS-compliant peripheral devices. You may wish to access installation files via a mapped drive from the client workstation to the 9700 Server PC. Step 1: Set Up the POS Terminal
q Connect the POS terminal to the 9700 network. q Attach and power on all peripheral devices.
For example, if you are installing an Epson printer and pole display, go to the Epson web site and download the appropriate OPOS drivers for these devices.
q Follow the installation instructions to install OPOS drivers on the client
terminal. Please note that Epson printer drivers must be installed before IBM printer drivers. These utilities can be accessed via the Windows Start menu.
q Use the provided utilities (e.g., IMB POS Suite) to configure the devices.

q Install the CCOs. Follow the installation instructions to install to complete q When the installation is complete, reboot the workstation.
Step 5: Install and Configure the OPOS Device Specific installation and configuration procedures for each OPOS device are not included in this document.
q Refer to the manufactures documentation and use the utilities provided
(e.g., IBM POS Suite) to complete the installation and configuration instructions for each OPOS device. These utilities can be accessed via the Windows Start menu. ensure the installation and configuration were successful before proceeding to step 6.
Configuration Notes
w For all Epson printers, the Printer Buffer Output field must be
disabled. For all IBM printers, this field can be enabled for faster printing.
w For all printers, the Printer Columns field should be left at the
default setting.
w For all printers, the Empty Status field should be disabled. w For IBM OPOS cash drawers, the Hydra Mode button should
be used to properly configure this device for use with the SAR or WinStation client. If this mode is not used, slow performance of the cash drawer may be encountered.

Configuration Guidelines
Step 7: Configure the OPOS Device in the 9700 Remote Management Console
q On the 9700 Server PC, open the Remote Management Console. In the
System Hardware | Devices file, configure the OPOS devices for each SAR or WinStation workstation (e.g., assign printers, define number of cash drawers, enable rear display and magnetic card, etc.). Device names must exactly match the name in the manufacturers device configuration.
Step 8: Configure the OPOS Device on the 9700 SAR or WinStation Client
q On the SAR or WinStation client, use the touchscreen entry sequence to
enter the Configuration Utility. Select the appropriate buttons in order to configure the OPOS devices within the SAR or WinStation application. Please note that all entries are case-sensitive. Refer to pages 9 through 13 for screen samples of the SAR and WinStation Configuration utilities.
